PIRTEK is coming to the end of another year at full throttle. All the action and excitement of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup; to the fairytale story of the Western Sydney Wanderers and the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge poised to become the biggest fishing event in the world - read all about it in this issue of FLUID.

Just like Jake and Elwood in the classic 1980 movie “The Blues Brothers”, Australian motorsport ace Marcos Ambrose and PIRTEK have “put the band back together” at Dick Johnson Racing.

PIRTEK was the naming rights sponsor on Ambrose’s car during his five seasons with Stone Brothers Racing in the V8 Supercar Championship Series (2001-2005). Ambrose won championships in 2003-04 in PIRTEK colours before heading to the US at the end of the 2005 season to pursue a career in NASCAR.

The arrangement with PIRTEK encompasses Ambrose’s highly publicised V8 Supercars return at the NRMA Sydney 500 on December 5-7.

The PIRTEK branding on the DJR Ford’s headlights appeared for the first time at a ride day at Lakeside Raceway in Queensland, when

STOP PRESS: PIRTEK & AMBROSE GET THE BAND BACK TOGETHER

XBOX was unveiled as the naming rights sponsor.

Any announcements regarding the new DJR Team Penske organisation and PIRTEK in 2015 and beyond will be made at an appropriate time.

“PIRTEK has obviously had some outstanding success with Marcos in V8 Supercars previously and we are looking forward to being involved with him on his return in Sydney next month," said PIRTEK CEO, Stephen Dutton.

"2015 also provides opportunity and we will continue to work through our options, but our first focus is Marcos in Sydney and what should be a terrific event with plenty of interest from sporting fans around the world."

The arrangement with PIRTEK and DJR for Sydney joins PIRTEK’s other sporting properties that includes Parramatta’s PIRTEK Stadium, the Brisbane Broncos (NRL), the Western Sydney Wanderers (A-League), the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge and the V8 Supercars’ PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

“PIRTEK has a terrific history in Australian sports, particularly V8

Supercars and we are delighted to have them part of the Sydney program with Marcos," said Dick Johnson.

“PIRTEK is a quality brand known the world over - especially in Australia, New Zealand and of course the United States, so it’s wonderful that we’re able to bring them on board for Marcos’ historic return to V8 Supercars.”

Ambrose - who finished his NASCAR season just Monday morning Australian time is thrilled to have PIRTEK involved in his return to V8 Supercars.

“I guess you could say the “band is back together” and I could not be happier,” said Ambrose.

“The support of PIRTEK when I came into V8 Supercars as a rookie was humbling. PIRTEK and its franchise network really gave me my shot.

“I was able to reward them with a couple of Championships, but the friendships we forged in those years have been lasting and it's terrific to come back to Australia and have them involved as we roll the car out of the truck for the first time."

As we’re into November, another year is coming to an end and what a spectacular one it has been for the PIRTEK group.

Across the board, we’d have to say that despite some tough times in the Australian economy, the group is performing extremely well.

There have been a few highlights from this year, most notably the relationship that PIRTEK has been able to build with Komatsu and seeing that go from strength to strength in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The development of PIRTEK Oil & Gas is another significant milestone - since it was launched in September 2013 and really took hold midway through this year, Mark Tinley and his team have done a sterling job to build that property - one that will only continue to grow in the future.

As you’ll read in this issue of FLUID, the sporting and community properties that PIRTEK is involved with nationally have been excelling - the PIRTEK Enduro Cup provided some of the biggest highlights of the V8 Supercars season - congratulations to Jamie Whincup, Paul Dumbrell and the entire Red Bull Racing Australia team; the Brisbane Broncos made the semi finals in the NRL Telstra Premiership and the story that is the Western Sydney Wanderers performance in the AFC Asian Champions League is stuff that dreams are made of.

The final of that Championship against Al Hilal is a wonderful Australian sporting story and it has resonated right through the Australian sporting community. Congratulations to Tony Popovic and his team.

The PIRTEK Fishing Challenge was a sellout for the first time ever in 2014 - and is already on target for growth come 2015 and our naming rights sponsorship of PIRTEK Stadium has grown PIRTEK’s footprint in the Western Sydney area significantly. It has been boosted even further by the confirmation of the multi-million dollar refurbishment, which you’ll also read about in this issue.

Recently, a number of franchisees had the opportunity to attend the National conference of PIRTEK South Africa. That provided them with a great opportunity to see how another PIRTEK nation goes about its business and the feedback that we’ve received since their return has seen many new ideas coming our way - similarly - the Australians were able to offer up some processes and ideas from here that have been warmly accepted by our South African cousins.

We’ve raised the bar in so many perspectives throughout 2014, that it is going to be difficult to top it come 2015...but rest assured, we’re working overtime to make sure that happens!

From my family to yours, I hope that you have a busy leadup to the Christmas period and have the chance to enjoy Christmas safely and soundly.

The multi-million dollar upgrade to PIRTEK Stadium in Parramatta will take place, with the renovations slated to have begun during October.

The $29 million dollar upgrade will see:

- 4,000 additional seats (2,000 at each end of the Stadium) to cope with the growth of crowd numbers

- a re-build of player changerooms to bring them to modern standards

- In-stadium Wi-Fi capability to bring PIRTEK Stadium into line with global trends

- Upgrading of current seating

Pre-registration for the 2015 PIRTEK Fishing Challenge is seeing entries coming in from all of Australia.

After the success of 2014, organisers, Michael and Lisa Guest, elected to open the event to pre-registrations with a big aim for the March 22 event.

“We had over 8,500 entries in 2014, for 2015 we want that to grow further. If we top 10,000 entries, it will become the biggest fishing competition anywhere in the world,” Michael Guest told FLUID.

“The prizepool for 2015 has swelled to over $165,000 in prizes. We have two new prize sponsors

coming on board - those being Spotters - who make polarised fishing sunglasses that are popular here in Australia and Swedish fishing tackle brand, ABU Garcia.

“They join of course, our major sponsor, PIRTEK, as well as prize partners Berkley, Lowrance Evinrude, Stacer and BCF.”

Anyone that pre-registers has the opportunity to win a Berkley Prize Pack, valued at $100.

Federal Member for Reid, Craig Laundy MP, welcomed the upgrade and the fact it will confirm two major sporting franchises will remain in Western Sydney.

“Western Sydney has a rich and proud sporting history, and this announcement means that two

leading franchises in this region, the Parramatta Eels and the Western Sydney Wanderers, will now have the best possible platform to excel into the future.”

State Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee said the upgrade will be welcomed by all in Parramatta.

The PIRTEK Enduro Cup took another major step forward in terms of awareness and interest in 2014.

The V8 Supercars Championship-within-a-Championship - won by Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell - recorded incredible television ratings for the Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600 events, the Bathurst ratings were the highest of recent years, comfortably topping 2.1 million average viewers. Saturday’s support race coverage and top 10 shootout hit 1.2 million viewers nationally.

The PIRTEK signage at the top of the Mountain was central to many of the major incidents of the day and with a terrific camera angle, encapsulated the brand spectacularly.

The crowd in attendance at Bathurst was the second highest recorded in the history of the event, just behind the record crowd that attended the 50th anniversary race in 2012.

The PIRTEK Fishing Challenge this year raised $130,000 that was donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia recently.

The Challenge this year, for the first time had the ‘SOLD OUT’ sign placed across it with weeks to go - over 8,500 anglers around Australia turning out for Australia’s biggest single day fishing challenge.

PIRTEK CEO, Stephen Dutton presented the $130,000 cheque to PCFA during the course of the Matty Johns Show on Fox Sports. The show is one of the highest rating NRL magazine-style programs and features PIRTEK Rugby League Ambassadors - Gorden Tallis and Nathan Hindmarsh.

A crew from PIRTEK UK, led by Chairman, Kelvin Roberts have completed a Charity Ride to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity in the UK.

The ‘Easy Rider’ team set out from Swindon for the ride, which took in over 200km, with visits to Reading, Oxford, through the Cotswolds before arriving at their final destination in Redditch.

The four day ride left Swindon on September 11.

Similarly, the Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600 crowd was up by over 13,000 on 2013 numbers. The decision to change the Gold Coast to be more of a party in line with the event’s roots working for organisers.

The presence of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup couldn’t go un-noticed, with a number of video pieces featuring Gorden Tallis, Nathan Hindmarsh and the Cup being featured regularly throughout race weekends at the circuits, backed up by bigscreen pieces to camera and rolling coverage of the points situation through race commentary.

The curtain coming down on the PIRTEK Enduro Cup season for 2014 ends the second year of PIRTEK’s four year commitment to the event.

Season three will see even more emphasis on engaging the franchise and customer base.

TRANSFORMATION

Although fairly new to the PIRTEK family, having joined in June 2013, the sixteen months until now have been nothing short of a whirlwind for PIRTEK Mascot franchisees, Craig and Joanna Duncan.

Not only were they learning the ropes of taking on a franchise, they were charged with finding new premises when the building their PIRTEK Service and Supply Centre was housed in was sold to make way for redevelopment into residential property. With PIRTEK Mascot having been in the same location for close on 30 years it was a daunting task for all involved to make sure the new location was going to be accessible and suitable for their customers.

They eventually found a suitable building in Botany - which has proven bigger and better equipped since moving there in early September. It houses their four Mobile Sales and Service vans and 9 staff in total that include Craig and Joanna, they are happy to

report their customers are loving the new location and facilities.

“The Mascot area is going through a transformation into becoming more residentially focused, which is forcing out the industrial businesses like ours,” Craig explained. “So we’ve moved over to Botany, we also have a much better facility for us and our customers and the new building will allow us to grow.”

PIRTEK Mascot’s area covers the Central Business District of Sydney and its surrounds, so like any PIRTEK Service and Supply Centre, the applications for PIRTEK product are diverse and range from everything from chemicals and construction through to food and breweries.

Also being based on the doorstep to Sydney Airport, supplying product to some of the service industries is a key focus.

“We need to be diverse in what we supply and who we supply to,” Craig explained. “We have spread across a number of different

industries to try and accommodate for that - as projects are busy at different times.

“Sydney city is going through a transformation in some respects. The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre is being completely re-built, so we’re providing products and service there and also the development of Barangaroo is keeping us very busy.”

The $6 billion Barangaroo development - first stage due to open in 12 months time - is re-defining the Western edge of the Sydney CBD and providing parklands and leisure centres to allow maximum use of the harbour and its surrounds. Aside from residential, restaurants, retail and a harbourside green space, it will also house James Packer’s Crown Sydney casino.

Some of the many major projects that PIRTEK Mascot supplies to include large scale unit construction sites where huge 20

metre piling rigs are used in the foundations work, they are also supplying industrial hoses to the likes of Orica, Caltex and Qenos as well as supplying hose auditing services to these companies.

With Caltex’s 2012 announcement that it will transform the Kurnell oil refinery facility to become a fuel import terminal, PIRTEK Mascot has played a heavy role in the transition supplying hoses to assist with the move, Caltex are due to switch into full gear this quarter when the final shipments of oil is dispensed from the holding tanks.

Outside chemical and construction, supplies to the food and beverage industry is one of PIRTEK Mascot’s major revenue streams and Craig is finding the burgeoning craft beer market is becoming an increasingly big

market.“We supply the big brewery

players like Lion, but there are many companies starting up with Craft Beer manufacture, so we’re supplying them with food grade hoses, one in particular has grown to open a facility in Western Australia, where we’ve been able to involve our fellow PIRTEK franchisees in WA.”

Craig comes from a corporate background and PIRTEK offered the best of both worlds.

“Depending on which client I’m talking to, we can be a small, local business that supplies goods and services at any level - from walk-in customers wanting one or two pieces of equipment - or you can approach it as a big corporate multinational, pitching for a major contract - that’s one of the big

advantages, that as a franchisee, you receive from being involved with PIRTEK,” he said.

“There is that flexibility to set your own marketing program within your local community, but you’ve got the backing of the bigger company that you can draw upon when you need it and its national involvement with properties like V8 Supercars and the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge.

“If you’re a startup business - it is crazy hard in the current environment - particularly in this industry, but buying a franchise or starting one with PIRTEK, there is so much information available for the franchisees. The details are there and so is the support - if you do send an SOS around the group - and we see at least one a week - you can be confident that someone will provide a solution for you fairly quickly - that’s what I love about it.

Having moved on September 1, 2014, the Duncans are still getting comfortable with the new facility - however, with their four vans in operation and being at the heart of Sydney’s changing face, Craig and Joanna are relishing the opportunity to increase the prominence of the PIRTEK brand across the Harbour City.

The PIRTEK-backed Western Sydney Wanderers became the Kings of Asia after a thrilling AFC Champions League final against well-funded Saudi club, Al Hilal.

The journey of the Wanderers is the talk of the football world. The second leg encounter in Riyadh was just the club’s 73rd match since it was founded.

The opening leg at PIRTEK Stadium saw the home side pull a vital goal with just over 20 minutes to go.

Wanderers goalkeeper, Ante Covic was the talisman against a strong Al Hilal assault, however the Wanderers were also unable to break the deadlock.

Tomi Juric was a late substitute from manager, Tony Popovic and he provided the impetus needed - slotting the ball into the net with just over 20 minutes to go.

A small but passionate group of 14

Wanderers fans travelled to Riyadh for the second leg, including a female fan (female supporters are banned from attending football matches in Saudi Arabia).

PIRTEK has continued its commitment to sport in its home of Western Sydney through announcing it will become the official sponsor of the Western Sydney Wanderers’ training kit for season 2014/2015.

The Wanderers add to PIRTEK’s sporting involvement across V8 Supercars, the Brisbane Broncos, New Zealand Kiwis Rugby League squad and the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge, along with many franchise-level sporting and community sponsorships.

Last season, PIRTEK raised $37,000 in funding for the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit at St. Vincents Hospital through the Wandergoals program - which donated $1,000 for each goal scored by the Wanderers in the Hyundai A-League.

“To be successful on the pitch, the training required by the Western Sydney Wanderers is extremely specific and relies on a great deal of precision,” said PIRTEK CEO, Stephen Dutton. “It is a great fit for PIRTEK to be the official training partner of the Wanderers.

“To make two Grand Finals in its first two years of existence is testament to the management of the team and the solid program it has built. Football has a huge base of support in Western Sydney and the Wanderers have really tapped into that grassroots base in the area.

“The passion of the fans has put PIRTEK Stadium on the map as one of the most daunting sporting venues for an away team in Australian sport - and the performance in the Asian Champions League is something dreams are made of.”

The lack of sportsmanship post match from Al Hilal was typical of what the Wanderers were forced to face throughout much of the AFC Champions League campaign. There was an on-pitch altercation which

included the Wanderers players being spat on.

The Wanderers have now earned themselves a place in the FIFA World Club Championships later this year and will come up against the likes of international powerhouses, Real Madrid.

The Parramatta live site attracted 4,500 supporters for the match and Sydney International Airport was jam-packed for the Wanderers return to Australia.

The PIRTEK Oil & Gas division is structuring itself for major growth throughout 2015.

Since it’s inception in September 2013, the rollout wasn’t evident until midway through 2014 when it was presented at the National Conference.

From there, this strategic unit has been boxing 20-25% above budget over the last five months at the

point of writing.“It was a difficult start for us in

terms of ensuring that we were able to develop the product range, access stock to deliver to market and then go about creating business within that market,” PIRTEK Oil & Gas General Manager, Mark Tinley told FLUID.

“I’m pleased to say that, now, there is a trending line on my wall

that is rather attractive.”With 12 months running Oil & Gas

as part of the broader PIRTEK family, Tinley says he’s got the division to a point where his team understands the demands not only of the market, but of the PIRTEK system.

“I feel as though structurally, the PIRTEK group will see a change in the coming months to how we’re delivering Oil & Gas to market,”

PIRTEK Oil & Gas has implemented Campbell Fittings ‘Crimpnology’ hose crimping technology. From the USA, Campbell Crimpnology is the most stringently tested form of crimping fittings to hoses the world over.

Combined with the superior products being supplied by PIRTEK Oil & Gas, the Campbell technique positions PIRTEK alongside many of the world’s leading hose supply companies, particularly in the oil and gas arena.

After strenuous testing behind closed doors up to four times the prescribed working pressure, items treated with Crimpnology are free to hit the market.

Hoses that have undergone the Crimpnology treatment provides security just “like wearing a belt, suspenders, duct tape and then welding your pants into place” according to Campbell!

Some features and benefits of Campbell Fittings Crimpnology include:• All Campbell fittings, couplings, ferrules, and sleeves are designed to work as integrated parts to meet our published performance criteria.

WE GOT CRIMPNOLOGY!• The turn-in end of the ferrule locks into the interlock groove on all fittings and couplings to ensure a 360° ferrule-to-fitting interlock.• The coupling/fitting serrations are specially designed for the ultimate in hose retention and sealing without causing potential tube failure.• The coupling/fitting shank length

Tinley explained. “I’m working directly on rolling the PIRTEK Oil & Gas product range through the franchise group, while we’re also working on positioning the PIRTEK name among the major players in the oil and gas industries.

“We needed this time to get the division operational and understanding the demands both internally and externally. Now we can start rolling it through the franchise group.

“I see us working closer on a day-to-day basis within the PIRTEK group.”

Tinley predicts, contracts that will secure the short-to-medium term future of PIRTEK Oil & Gas are not far away.

“We’ve been working hard to secure a number of major contracts and I feel as though we’re just about to turn the corner in terms of announcing a couple of wins, which when we do, will place PIRTEK Oil & Gas on the map.

and ferrule length are matched to also maximise retention and sealing without hose cover damage.

This will have a further result of positioning PIRTEK alongside some major global brands in this arena.”

Critical to the step forward in 2015 will be accreditation from NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) - the body that provides assessment, accreditation and training services to laboratories and technical facilities. Mark and his team are currently preparing for ISO 17025 NATA testing and accreditation for PIRTEK Oil & Gas.

Overall, the market is responding well to PIRTEK making its entrance into the highly specialised arena.

“PIRTEK is known throughout the world as being a market leader in terms of providing quality products and outstanding service, so for us the challenge is to ensure that by attaching the PIRTEK name to the products and services that we’re providing - that we’re meeting those standards - as well as gaining a foothold over the competition -

which I think we’re doing well.”Mark expects that the major

areas in the oil and gas industries will be catered for by PIRTEK Oil & Gas in the coming 12 months.

"Absolutely. We are developing a strong relationship with our partners in Singapore, each of us leveraging off one another’s capabilities.

"A joint tour of one of the world’s leading API hose manufacturers last month has resulted in a significant alliance, creating tremendous opportunities throughout Asia and APAC regions.

“Once this evolves, PIRTEK Oil & Gas will have a presence in many of the major oil and gas markets around the world - those being Western Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Singapore.”

More news is expected from PIRTEK Oil & Gas in the coming weeks.

RED BULL DOES IT AGAIN

PIRTEK ENDURO CUP

Red Bull Racing Australia has proven beyond doubt that it is the premier long distance racing V8 Supercar team, by taking its second consecutive PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

After last year falling short at the final event, Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell were able to make amends and secure the magnificent PIRTEK trophy for Roland Dane’s team.

It adds to the domination last year by RBRA - whose other

car - the #888 machine of Craig Lowndes was the winner, along with Warren Luff.

Coming into the final weekend of competition on the Gold Coast, no less than 15 of the 25 combinations, representing all five manufacturers, had a mathematical possibility of taking the James Corbett-inspired trophy.

A second placed finish in the Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600 opener all but guaranteed

Whincup and Dumbrell the trophy, however they still had to finish on Sunday and rely on Paul Morris and Chaz Mostert to finish ninth or lower.

They took a comfortable victory. The PIRTEK Enduro Cup

delivered some superb racing, perfect weather conditions for each event and three different combinations taking victory for two manufacturers in the four races.

PIRTEK ENDURO CUP BRIEFS:• Nissan Motorsport performed well, having three of its four cars in contention coming to the Gold Coast. The Norton Hornets team secured two podiums - one at Bathurst for James Moffat and Taz Douglas, the other at the Gold Coast for Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore.

• The track breakup at turn two at Bathurst brought a halt to

proceedings midway through the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. It is unprecedented that a red flag be thrown for such a situation.

• After having their qualifying time scrubbed due to an infringement, Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris were forced to start from the rear of field - placing their odds at 100-1. It’s heard a well known paddock figure

cleaned up handsomely after getting on board the Pepsi Max Crew FPR duo.

• Announced just prior to Sandown, Marcos Ambrose’s return with DJR Team Penske was the talk of the paddock right through the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. It was bookended with the announcement he’ll compete in December’s Sydney 500.

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell continued their winning ways at the first round of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup - the Wilson Security Sandown 500 - with a dominant performance.

They managed to achieve the first victory from pole position in the 500 kilometre epic in almost 20 years.

Whincup and Dumbrell beat home the Holden Racing Team Commodores of James Courtney/Greg Murphy and Garth Tander/Warren Luff – who held out a fast finishing Craig Lowndes/Steven Richards combination for the podium.

Dick Johnson Racing pair Scott Pye and Ashley Walsh put in a tremendous performance to bring their Ford home in fifth – the best placed non-Holden in the field.

Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat were the best of the Volvos in eighth, Rick Kelly and David Russell the best of the Nissans in 13th, whilst it was a horrid day for the Erebus Motorsport AMG E63s.

RED BULL SAILS TO SANDOWN WIN

Lee Holdsworth was the centre of the major incident in the 161-lap race when a failure speared him into the fence head-on at over 260kph at the end of the back-straight.

The Erebus Motorsport Mercedes had to undergo a major re-build at the team’s Gold Coast headquarters

• Lee Holdsworth was looking for the ladders he walked under and the black cat that crossed his path come the end of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. Erebus Motorsport’s only V8 Supercars race winner (Winton this year) had a massive shunt at the end of the backstraight at Sandown; with that car re-built, he was the victim of a Russell Ingall slam at Bathurst, which saw the car roll; then after finishing outside of the top 10 of race one on the GC, was sidelined after another fence slam in the Sunday GC600 race.

• Arguably the standout of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup was Chaz Mostert. He was able to wrestle the Pepsi Max Crew #6 into contention on every single occasion. In fact, if it wasn’t for a late race flat spot in the final race on the Gold Coast - and Whincup/Dumbrell encountered

a terminal issue - he would have done enough to sit the PIRTEK Enduro Cup alongside the Peter Brock Trophy…

• Another two standouts were Kiwi stars Scott McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen. After leading the majority of the first half of Bathurst, McLaughlin and co-driver Alex Premat came to a cruel conclusion when they hit the wall at the top of the Mountain late in the race. Finishing second on Sunday at the GC made amends. van Gisbergen was in position to win Bathurst, until the starter motor on the V.I.P. Petfoods Holden - shared with Jonathon Webb - failed during his last pitstop. They won the Saturday GC600 race in fine form.

• Sportsmanship isn’t dead - after defending PIRTEK Enduro

Cup Champion, Warren Luff had a brake issue heading up Mountain Straight and used last year’s team-mate Craig Lowndes as his braking marker, Lowndes leapt from his Triple 8 Commodore to access the upturned HRT machine of Luff, dragging him from the wreckage. The pair famously hugged on the roadway, however the Holden factory team couldn’t get Luff and Garth Tander back into the race.

*One of the stints of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup was the start by Jamie Whincup. He scythed his way through the field after starting rear of grid due to a qualifying mistake. He was soon in contention - an amazing feat to watch in such a tightly packed field. He and Dumbrell richly deserved their PIRTEK Enduro Cup crown.

before the Bathurst 1000.It was Whincup’s third victory

in the Sandown event and his ninth podium result in the 500km Bathurst 1000 pre-cursor. It was also his 85th V8 Supercars race win. It was Dumbrell’s second successive victory in the event.

The master and the apprentice is a well worn line, but Paul Morris and Chaz Mostert epitomised the cliche as they stormed to victory in one of the most tense Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000s in history.

A mixed leadup that saw many contenders caught out on a new surface brought a raceday with many unknowns attached to it.

After a relatively stable first half of the race, the track began to break-up at Griffins Bend pitching many into the fence, including Morris.

Sensationally, officials halted the race - and then controversially allowed the competitors to work on their cars under the red flag period (usually parc ferme conditions).

From there the race really intensified. Several contenders stood up and looked as though they were on for victory, most notably the Tekno/V.I.P. Petfoods Commodore of Shane van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb. The pair were leading heading into the final stanza of pitstops only to have the starter motor fail, devastating the team.

The last 30 laps were incredible. A number of competitors found the fence then it became a sprint race to the flag between both Red Bull Racing Australia cars and the Pepsi

Max Crew Fords.A controversial coming together

between Craig Lowndes and Mark Winterbottom cruelled their chances, whilst a determined Jamie Whincup was under siege not just from Chaz Mostert - but the RBRA team.

He was light on fuel heading into the last few laps - but racer being racer - forged on regardless. He got within one kilometre of the finish line

when the car coughed, opening the door for Chaz Mostert to slip up the inside at Forrests Elbow and charge on to a fabulous victory, beating home the Nissan of James Moffat and Taz Douglas and the Commodore of Nick Percat and Englishman, Oliver Gavin.

The result brought Mostert and Morris into contention heading to the Gold Coast.

Holden took both races of the Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600 and Red Bull Racing Australia secured the PIRTEK Enduro Cup for the second time.

Shane van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb staged a spectacular race on Saturday to take the win for V.I.P Petfoods Racing.

After Scott McLaughlin tore away from the start in the Volvo against Webb, the highly strategic race came back the way of mercurial Kiwi van Gisbergen and Webb.

The Gold Coast-based duo took a comfortable victory in the end, beating home PIRTEK Enduro Cup leaders, Whincup and Dumbrell.

The battle for third went to overtime. In a controversial finish, Ford’s Mark Winterbottom (partnered with Steve Owen) tapped the rear of Tim Slade’s Supercheap Auto Holden at the Castrol EDGE Hairpin and snuck past the South Australian on the run to the finish line for the final podium spot.

Officials immediately reversed the finish to see Slade and team-mate Tony D’Alberto elevated to the podium - it was D’Alberto’s

first podium in V8 Supercars competition.

Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris kept the PIRTEK Enduro Cup alive through their sixth place finish - however Whincup and Dumbrell’s lead had opened up to some 66 - meaning that just the two combinations were in contention to take home the PIRTEK trophy.

Sunday’s second race could not have offered a more tense scenario.

With a battle royale going on between McLaughlin and Premat’s Volvo and van Gisbergen and Webb’s Holden for the early half of the race, PIRTEK Enduro Cup-wise Whincup and Dumbrell were cruising.

When the pitstops played out, Whincup and Dumbrell elevated themselves to the lead, however Chaz Mostert was chipping his way forward in the #6 machine. He got himself into the top 20 in another spirited drive then on the verge of the top 15.

If Mostert got the Pepsi Max Crew Ford into 13th and Whincup was forced out of the race, the youngster and Morris would win the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. With the

concrete canyon of the Gold Coast throwing up any number of scenarios, a tense final 30 laps was set.

Heading into the final 20 laps, a grandstand finish to the V8 Supercars Championship-within-a-Championship wasn’t to be with Mostert pitting for a flatspotted tyre.

This saw Whincup and Dumbrell cruise to a second consecutive PIRTEK Enduro Cup for Roland Dane’s squad. Three manufacturers were represented on the race podium with McLaughlin/Premat (Volvo) and Caruso/Fiore (Nissan) making the dais. Mark Winterbottom and Steve Owen were able to secure third in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup points after their first season as a combination.

Marcos Ambrose will return to Australia for the final round of the V8 Supercars season at the Sydney 500 before a fulltime V8 return in 2015, racing with American motorsport powerhouse, Team Penske.

Penske has purchased a majority stake in V8 Supercars foundation team, Dick Johnson Racing and will re-name the organisation DJR Team Penske.

They will remain with Ford Falcons for the time being, but without factory backing.

The news that Ambrose will return - who enjoyed major support from PIRTEK during his time at Stone Brothers Racing - has been welcomed by the V8 Supercar community on the eve of a new TV rights deal with Fox Sports and the TEN Network beginning.

It is something the Tasmanian - who will re-enter the sport very much as a veteran is hanging out for:

“It was a no brainer for me to come with the conversations I’ve had with Roger to take this opportunity and really run with it. I can’t wait to get home and get started,” Ambrose said in a global teleconference.

“It will be a challenge for me personally, there’s no doubt about that. It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve driven a V8 Supercar.

“I don’t take that challenge lightly. I know it’s going to take some time to get integrated back into the series with the way they like to race, with the rules they have in place, and also the technical aspect of these cars.

“I’ve been racing 36 NASCAR Sprint Cup races every season. I’ve had plenty of racing miles under my belt. I’m looking forward to the change. I’m looking forward to bringing my family back to Australia, and just can’t wait to get started.”

The addition of a global racing powerhouse like Team Penske investing in V8 Supercars is a huge

boost to the sport. Penske has taken out the 2014 INDYCAR Series Title with Australian Will Power at the helm and at the time of writing had two drivers (Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski) into the second last stanza of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Title Chase.

Ambrose was a good fit for the team says Penske: “He’s a local boy in Australia, which makes a big difference, as we wanted a team with Dick Johnson, and the chance to have Marcos as our driver made a great combination,” said “The Captain”. “He’ll be able to connect with our customers, connect with our employees, and more important, he’ll be able to help build the Penske brand in Australia because it’s about performance and it’s about integrity and it’s about winning.

“To me when you put it all together, we couldn’t have a

better combination with DJR and Marcos, and we’re going to try to provide input and bring our experience to the table, too.”

Tim Cindric - Team Penske President - was in Australia for the Bathurst 1000 eyeing the scene first hand with team manager Jeff Swartwout - who headed up Penske’s sportscar program with Porsche.

Australian Nick Hughes will be the team’s technical head, whilst the highly regarded John Crennan will take the post of re-shaping the commercial department at DJR Team Penske.

Penske recently launched the Penske Truck Leasing business in Brisbane and has been expanding its range of trucks through the Western Star and MAN brands (which are part of the Penske conglomerate) throughout Australia.

The PIRTEK-backed Brisbane Broncos surged home to occupy the coveted eighth spot on the ladder at the completion of the regular season for the NRL Telstra Premiership, however the first week of the semi-finals would be as far as they progressed.

The run home over the final four matches didn’t start well for the Broncos, being trounced by a white-hot South Sydney Rabbitohs squad 42-16 - who of course went on to take the crown.

From there, the Brisbane squad showed tremendous resilience to hammer the Knights the next weekend 48-6 and then secure a position in the eight by slaying traditional rivals, the Dragons 30-22.

Coming into the final week - they were up against the Melbourne Storm, who themselves were central to the top eight battle. A torrid match against the Victorian team saw the Broncos go down 22-12 at AAMI Park - however through other results, they had done enough to make the top eight.

The first week of the finals, the Broncos drew the North Queensland Cowboys - who,

despite a hot and cold season - came into the finals on a four from their last five win ratio.

Alas, the Broncos were unable to get by their fellow Queensland squad and fell by the wayside.

The year for the Broncs had many positives - the arrival of Ben Barba from the Canterbury Bulldogs as its big name signing at the beginning

of the year, plus the development of Ben Hunt into one of the game’s best halfbacks gave the Brisbane fans much to cheer about.

They had advanced from a 12th placed finish in 2013 to the familiar surrounds of the top eight once again and with Wayne Bennett returning in 2015, a solid foundation has been laid.

The PIRTEK-backed New Zealand Kiwis have put in one of the most dominant performances seen in international Rugby League for some time in taking out the Four Nations Title undefeated.

They made it to the final against the Australian squad and in a spirited ANZAC fight were able to get on top of Tim Sheens' men to win the final 22-18.

The four tries to the Kiwis, scored by Jason Nightingale, a double from Manu Vatuvei and a four pointer from Man of the Match Shaun Johnson - who added to the tally with three goals - was better than Australia's three scored by Michael Jennings, Simone Mata'utia and Ben Hunt, with Cameron Smith nailing three goals.

The black and whites had a tough encounter against a determined Toa Samoa team - scraping home 14-12.

The final qualifying match saw the Kiwis oust England 16-14.

The Samoans showed they are far from minnows with their opening encounter against England, taking

Another link in the PIRTEK-backed Brisbane Broncos chain for 2015 has been completed with the news that club legend, Alfy Langer will return to the coaching staff and will be back in his role of runner during game day.

ALFY’S BACKHe joins his former coach from

the Broncos halcyon days, Bennett, as well as former team-mate Kevin Walters on the revised coaching squad.

“I’ll be back in the coaching

department on a part-time basis and not as an assistant coach,” Langer said. “Mainly it will be about working on game day as a runner, and working with the team in the last training session before the game.

“I’m excited to be balancing my roles at the club between the corporate activities I’ve been doing over the last couple of years, and getting back into the football side of things and working with the team again.”

In other off-season news from the Broncos, popular front-rower, Ben Hannant has left the team for the Cowboys, and Brisbane has come to a mutual agreement to part ways with props Martin Kennedy and Dave Hala.

Bolstering the Broncos pack in 2015 will be boom youngster, James Gavet - who has been signed from the Tigers. Young forward, Corey Oates has agreed to a long-term extension of his contract.
