    UNDER - WEIGHT

    Impairment especially at younger ages

    Causing conditions like :

    Tuberculosis

    Anemia (shortage of healthy red blood cells)

    Lack of resistance to acute infection

    Under Weight need special care in undeveloped and developing

    countries because of :

    Lack of control on TB

    Poverty

    Under- Nourishment

    (cause high deaths)

    Sub- Standard Cases needs to be postponed or charged withextra premium

    It varies from case to case and depend on several factors

    Factors considered for sub- standard cases :

    1. Life to be assured should have basic education so that it canunderstand implication of some major illness.

    2. He has adequate means and facilities for availing medical

    treatment.

    3. polluted work and home environment.4. Chest expansion is at least 5 cms.

    5. The recoded weight should be at least 37 Kg

    For 1st time applicant with 17.5% underweight an X-RAY of chest,

    CBC & ESR may be obtained

    OVER - WEIGHT

    Moderate over weight Advantage upto Age 40

    Chief Hazards :- Heart Diseases, blood vessels and Kidneys

    Diabetes is a major risk ( Fat men over 40 are prone to it 19 times

    than a thin man)

    Half of the death are due to Cardiovascular and renal (kidney

    function ) diseases.

    Weight may increases with age during the policy period

    in such cases special reports can be asked

    Special care is required for border line cases

    OTHERINDICESOF BUILD

    Chest Girth :Mortality rating will increased by debits for under weight with below

    normal chest expansion

    Mortality rating will reduced by credits if chest expansion is above normal

    in over weight

    Chest expansion : Good expansion = better vital capacity

    Cause of abnormal expansion is important

    Shrinking can be due to pneumonia

    Poor examiner can take wrong measures

    Abdominal Girth :

    large girth increases mortality in over weight

    Debit points are increased as per the cms excess of Abdominal

    EXTRAPREMIUMS & LIENS

    Impairments of build increase risk Lien may be charged in following circumstances :

    Life is under-weight and less than 33 yr decreasing lien in place of the extra

    charged may be allowed (on special request)

    Life under 33 yr, a lien will be charged for under-weight from the out set and no

    option will be allowed to pay an extra in lien.

    I. Works in factory or from low income group

    II. Proposal from remote place and life proposed are under-weight say 17 %

    III. With family history of TB or pleurisy

    IV. Moral hazard or doubt on the medical examiners

    FAMILYHISTORY

    Average longevity of family Hereditary tendency of disease

    Exposure to infection

    Family history is better than average when both parents reach 70yr

    Worse in case : parents dyeing before 50yr

    Two cases of alcoholism

    Brights disease (kidney diseases)

    Diabetes

    Epilepsy (brain disorder involving repeated)

    Heat problems

    Insanity or suicide before 60yr

    Common environment causes TB

    Factors taken in account:

    1. Number of TB cases in family

    2. Immunity due to age

    3. Resistance arising from weight

    4. Period since exposure

    5. Intimacy of contact

    6. Type of TB : as TB of bones or joints is less risky than of lung

    IMPAIRMENTSOFNERVOUSSYSTEM

    Schizophrenia : 50% to 60 % due to hereditymale : in early life / Female : after menopause

    It debars the purpose from insurance

    Risk of suicide high

    A single case of insanity can be ignored

    Epilepsy : it has neurotic inheritance

    If applicant is mentally stable till age 35 there is no need of extra

    charge
