Short Description:

The students that choose the hotel specialization in the hotel and restaurant

program in Östersund upper secondary school work in a close

cooperation with local companies during their APU (workplace training

at a local company). According to IngerGardmo, teacher at hotel and

restaurant program it is crucial for the students to establish important

and useful contacts with people from the local labour market. They

therefore have a policy that strives to allow pupils to return to the same

work as they initially visited during the education. This implies that the

more personal contacts are made and a higher sense of responsibility

seems to be present to the students as was evident in the form of lower

absenteeism. By linking students these contacts will also increase

employability after training.

Besides the close collaboration with the local labour market the

students also use a “personal logbook” in a new and interesting way.
