Definition of Gifted and Talented Students(Regulation 43-220)
Gifted and talented students are those who
are identified as demonstrating high
performance ability or potential in academic
and/or artistic areas and therefore, require an
educational program beyond that normally
provided by the general school program in
order to achieve their potential.

Must meet 2 out of 3 dimensions:
Dimension A – Reasoning Abilities (Aptitude Test)• Total 93% or better

Local Criteria
The maximum number of total points is 118.
Students must accumulate AT LEAST 88
points in order to be eligible for participation in
the Advanced Academic Learners Program.

Local Identification
a) Locally identified students will be evaluated throughout
the year to monitor their progress. Possible
probation/withdrawal could result based on student
performance.
b) Locally identified students and their parent(s) must sign a
consent form stating they understand the trial placement
criteria.
c) Locally identified students will participate in the G/T
program for a maximum of one year.
Local Identification
Continued participation will be determined by the following:
a. G/T enrollment numbers for the upcoming year warrant the use of the local identification process, and
b. The student meets the criteria for local identification, and
c. The student’s conduct or behavior has not posed significant hindrance tohis/her learning or the learning of other participating students, and
d. The student’s academic performance as a locally identified student wasmet during his/her trial placement.

• Experiencing nature through hands-on exploration
• Explore a 1600 acre classroom high in the Blue Ridge Mountains
• Hardwood forests, lakes, streams, and “folded mountains”
