This is one very talented individual!!!! We would probably know him best as the creator and art director of the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery, many of the paintings adorn our buildings here in Huntsville. His resume is indeed impressive and covers many different aspects of artistic excellence. Not only as an artist, but a musician, a muralist, vocal coach, stage design, mentoring….. And the beat goes on!!!

Gerry has also given countless lectures and speaking engagements about the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery . Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven artists; at schools, social functions, community clubs and Town events, on behalf of the Outdoor Gallery and the Town of Huntsville. During the 2010 G8 Summit, Gerry shared some painting pointers and acted as art director for the World Leaders. They helped paint one of Mr. Lantaigne’s Murals for the Gallery. The mural can be seen at the Canada Summit Centre.

Reminder to interested members

that we are planning snowshoeing trips this winter… to keep in shape

for next season’s hiking!

On Sunday Jan 29th, three of us snow shoed for a couple of hours starting from Jean and John Campbell’s home and continued on into Arrowhead Provincial Park. Snow conditions were perfect, temperature about -6c and scenery spectacular. We are planning a group activity for February 17th …..starting at 10 am at the Campbell’s. Those preferring a shorter exercise can return with Jean early for a hot chocolate and we could all meet for lunch about 1 pm at Muskoka on the Rocks. The trail is narrow and works easier with narrower modern shoes rather than the large wooden ones. Let me know if you are interested and I will provide a map and directions. David Mason.

Instruction from Wendy Boyd

The group will meet every other Tues. afternoon from 1:30-3:00 starting Tues. Jan. 24th at Wendy's home,

6 Natures Way in Woodland Heights. 705-784-0709

Instruction with Gloria Woodside.

The group will meet every other Wed. from 1:30-3:00 starting

Wed. Feb. 22nd at Gloria's home, A2 #20 Dairy Lane.

The next session of the Probus Photo Group will be on the theme "My Winter!", and will be held at 2:00 pm on April 14. Ken and Barb will be hosting at their Huntsville Condo -- 35 Dairy Lane, Suite 101.

Since a number of Probus folks heeded the forecasts for a "Normal" Muskoka Winter -- and are off enjoying what winter is like in other parts of planet earth -- let's capture some images of our "winter environment" wherever we are! Plus it's great to go back through our photo archives and seek out photos of favorite past winter places and activities.

If you cannot appear in person, emailed images to [email protected] are always welcome. And if you'd just like to see what the Photo Group is all about, please feel free to come along and join the fun as a spectator!

CONTACT: DOUG BELL 705-635-1137 [email protected] Unfortunately there are no Armchair Travellers sessions booked for February or March.

However, on April 12th. Chuck and Sally McClelland will be presenting on their travels over

the years in the Yukon Territory. On May 10th Jean Campbell will relate her amazing story of her

recent travels in Bhutan. More information will be available in coming newsletters.

CONTACT: BARBARA BURTON 705-788-0059 [email protected]

What a blast from the past!!!! Barb hosted her first “Dining In” for this year, and it was a Throwback Theme. Remember all those great dishes from the 50’s and 60’s….Celery stuffed with cheese whiz, tomato aspic, every vegetable you ever thought about was creamed, well this is how we celebrated our youth. Decked out in kilts, letter sweaters, nerd glasses, we enjoyed a wonderful time! Even Barb’s Alter ego joined us as we giggled the night away!

LAST MONTH’S SPEAKER….

You could almost imagine David Mason’s thoughts as we listened to

Rob Stimpson talk about the perils of Shackleton and the hardships he en-dured during his Antarctic exploration. As we listened I’m sure that all of us

could hardly begin to imagine how he survived. I’m sure that David in

another time, another life...would have been right there with Sir Henry.

Three new groups have been formed for the exciting 2017 Wine Tasting. Cheers to a new year!!!

This volunteer organization delivers a hot nutritious meal at noon to persons experi-encing difficulty, or those unable to pre-pare their own meals. The volunteers pick up the meals at the hospital. There are three routes in and around the Huntsville area with about 4 to 7 stops on each route. Some volunteers drive with runners doing the delivery, while others prefer to do both, drive and run. One of the drivers Ken Raven has a runner… a young autistic man whose Community Living counselor also rides along. Flexibility is offered to the volunteers with some delivering twice monthly and some up to four times a month.

We are extremely proud that members of our own Probus Club are so integral in this volunteer group. Diane Litchfield is pres-ently serving as President and Pat Flanagan has recently joined the board in the Vice President’s position. Also Joy McCaskill was very deeply involved for many years. Up until recently David Hockin was a driver and Pat Spencer, Ken Raven and Ann Cumming also drive with Judy Clapp as a runner. Our own past treasurers Beryl and Paul Clayson have accepted a new role as treasurers for Meals on Wheels. We are well represented!!!

If this is the type of volunteer organization

that you would like to join without having to

spend a lot of time, but doing a lot of

good...please contact Diane Litchfield
