KONDININ COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTRE
EXTENSIONS OPENING
Last Friday 25th October 2019 Darren West MLC and Rick
Wilson, MP both attended the official opening of the extensions
to the Kondinin Community Recreation Centre.
The extensions to the Recreation Centre began in 2016 where
plans were drawn up by Rosalie Pech Eva architects and
grants were awarded from the Department of Sport and
Recreation and the Wheatbelt Development Commission and
funding also committed by the Shire of Kondinin and the
Kondinin Community Recreation Council. The contract was
awarded to ACORP Construction who commenced the project
in April 2018 and completed the works on time and in budget
by February 2019. Once the main works were completed
through funding from Federal Government’s Stronger
Community Fund and additional funding from the Kondinin
Community Recreation Council the internal works to the bar
and kitchen area and external landscaping were then
undertaken.
The proceedings began with a wonderful heartfelt Welcome to
Country by Don Collard who recognised the Kondinin
Community Recreation Centre as being an important meeting
place for sporting events as well as parties and weddings.
Shire President, Sue Meeking and CEO Mia Dohnt then
provided an overview of the project. Both Darren West MLC
and Rick Wilson, MP then spoke on the importance of this
facility in bringing local rural communities together. Kondinin
Community Recreation Council President, Glenn Browning
concluded proceedings with a fabulous speech on the role of
the KCRC and the Community Farm as the main drivers in
making this project happen.
Thank you to everyone that has been involved in the extensions to the Kondinin Community Recreation Centre. I would like to
especially recognise former Deputy CEO, Alan George who worked closely with ACORP during the main construction phase of the
project and the fabulous committee of the Kondinin Community Recreation Council, in particular President Glenn Browning, Secretary
Jen Henderer and Treasurer Drew Wilkins who the Shire have worked closely with from the beginning to the end of the project to
enable the completion of this fabulous new facility in which our whole community can now enjoy for many years to come.
