I am a diligent, creative and efficient individual who possesses the drive and ambition to succeed at any design challenge. Whilst having a keen eye on design ideas and functions I am also able to apply some engineering knowledge as well to backup and fortify my designs. I greatly enjoy working in teams and I believe when everyone works together superior solutions are devised along with having responsibility skills that enable me to lead a group of people to help progress.Because I am analytical and interested in contemporary design, it allows me to apply and learn from other people all of the time to help build and establish future designs.

2015University, Module (Industrial Design - Business Focus)

This short project was to understand the user base of people who buy Clarks Originals shoes and accessories. And then to understand what were the key drivers behind these purchases were. When that was done, it was able to be understood exactly what products that this demographic would buy.

When a customer purchases a new pair of Clarks Originals, they will have an opportunity to purchase this experience shoe box, which will work in a very similar way as a scrapbook.Allowing the user to keep all of their memorabilia in a convenient place, and then after the journey is complete the door can be taken off and displayed.

Modest Timeless Expressive

These three drivers, “Modest”, “Timeless” and “Expressive” are the words that fitted best with all of the customers of Clarks Originals. Then it becomes possible to use the words as a benchmark against any future designs.

Drivers behind purchases 7

When people travel, it becomes very easy for people to gather and collect mementos, from travel-cards to spare currency.These are all placed in the Clark Originals AdventureBox and then can be displayed when the user returns home.

The storage idea8

For reassurance when taking the adventure box around with you, the box is manufactured out of a strong plastic which would resist the nature of being scraped and dragged along. To make sure that the mementos and shoes stay dry as well, it will be coated in a tough Teflon to move water away.

2016Aston UniversityThis project is for the annual Eco-Marathon completion ran by Shell, where universities all over the world try to make a vehicle as fuel efficient as possible. At Aston, we take the efficiency to heart and try to make a vehicle which is wholly sustainable by using wood.To build from the previous years car, the chassis of the car was designed by me to be a lattice design, one that did not require a complicated way of manufacture and could be flat-packed.

2016 Shell Eco-Marathon

For Aston’s entry for the Shell Eco Marathon, the design was an expansion from the year before, by sticking to a wood design and trying to make the most out of environmentally friendly materials.So for 2016, the evolution was a wooden lattice design, which could be slotted together.

The chassis was designed using Solidworks and making sure that all of the lattice pieces slot together. The progress of the chassis is shown here, starting from a very simple shape resembling the 2015 car, it was changed to include support for many things in the rules.

At the competition

At the competition, the car because of its unusual manufacture gathered a lot of attention, there were still finishing touches to do on the car and the LED lights that were installed and placed make the car look its part. They helped create a front facade of the vehicle which could not be mistaken for anything else.

At the competition, the head of Shell UK, Erik Bonino allowed Aston’s two teams to go onto track to celebrate the achievements that we had succeeded in creating a wooden lattice urban concept car.

2016Aston University (Final Year Project)This project started off a dashboard design for the Shell Car, but then it moulded and changed to become a dashboard for a vehicle in the near future. Using the same progressive nature than in the Shell Car, environmentally friendly materials were used along with the changing nature of people owning cars. With more and more people using Uber and taxis, I thought a specific autonomous dashboard has a place in the market.

When the user wants to call a new Uber autonomous vehicle, they would be able to use the updated app.On the app they could then choose whether they would like to drive the vehicle themselves, or let the car drive itself.

Ever since throughout my research I found out that Uber were starting to go into the realm of self-driving cars, I thought that this would be an opportunity that no other car company has thought of. Unlike Tesla and Volvo, a user did not need to purchase a vehicle to use the benefits of autonomous vehicles.

Some early sketches showing how the design started as a dashboard for the Shell car competition, but then started to evolve into their own vehicle size.

Progress DesignsAs designs moved on forward, colour sketches were commissioned to understand the physical appearance and materials of a design.

Foam PrototypesTo gauge the physical presence of the design, 1/4 scale foam models were created, along with a faux chassis interior to get an idea of how it could look.

Final Renders When the final design was sketched out and thought of, it was time to CAD it up and process some renders to gauge what it would look like with all the material properties in place.

When travellers are using the Uber self-driving service, their portal to the world of the connected dashboard would be their mobile phone. Because it was used to call the car, all users would have their phone on them, able to be used as a remote for all of the applications available on the dash.

Prototype ManufactureWhen all of the designs were completed, it was time to create a final prototype, using many of the materials that would be in the final manufactured model. Because the model was created at full scale, this gives a perfect representation to how the device would look in a real car.

In order to complete the project, it was necessary to complete the prototype and create an advert for the product, in order to promote the move that Uber would be making in the future.

FUTURE COMMUTINGWORK PLAY

When “work” is chosen, this allows the passenger to be extremely productive on their journey to the work place.

Being able to write full length emails and create presentations without being limited by the lack of a laptop or a desk.

“Play” gives the rider a relaxing experience, away from all of the stress and manic from everyday driving and presents an exciting way to enjoy TV shows and films.Allowing access to social media platforms it can be used to check up on the world outside of the car.

The screen is a WQHD display

which can comfortably display a multitude of apps open, and can even

put them to the side of the screen when a film is being watched.

With Dolby surround sound supplied with tweeters and subwoofers to provide studio quality sound to whatever is playing.

The option to drive the vehicle is always availble, but when not being used, the drive by wire steering wheel neatly hides in the dashboard creating much more space in the drivers side of the vehicle.

The 13” screen has 2 axes of rotation,

allowing for the screen to face the singular passenger in the drivers seat, or to be split down the middle for the

passenger. The extruded aluminium

bar holds up the screen and allows

movement.

SELF-DRIVING CONNECTIONSBefore the Uber arrives, the user is able to choose whether they would like to drive the vehicle or ride in an autonomous vehicle so the user is able to achieve other jobs while travelling.

The mobile device used by the user connects to the dashboard via Bluetooth or by Wi-Fi Direct. This acts as a very low latency remote and allows easy usage and is able to control what is shown and text entry on the dash.

A VIEW OF THE DASH

To change the interior between self-driving mode and normal driving mode, the steering wheel can be pushed back when not in use to make space for other activities.

When in the car, the mobile phone is used to connect to the dashboard. It sends commands via bluetooth or Wi-Fi direct and

then all of the processing is done inside of the dashboard.

2016 Aston University (Industrial Product Design Module)This small project was for another module, but linked in strongly with the dashboard from the final year project.The brief was to create something that was simple and easy to use that would link with the dash and provide functionality. So this would be a redesign to the Uber application which will provide a way of connecting and interacting with the screen inside of the vehicle, in a similar way to how phones can interact with a Chromecast.

Young entrepreneurs who needs to travel into London every morning. To far to reliably get the train or the tube, so driving in is the fastest way. But because the morning is a busy time. Time could be spent in the car to complete simple work and send emails...

Choosing Location

Choosing a location on the application decides where the autonomous car would pick you up from and drop you to your place of work.

Looking at your habits it is able to recognise when you should leave due to traffic on their commute.

Work Or Play?

When the car is making its way to the commuter, they are able to choose which atmosphere they want the interior to be more in-tune too.

The choices are either WORK or PLAY.

The difference between the two is mainly down to the applications available for use on the dashboard.

The work has more productivity apps and play has applications to entertain.

To adapt to the login security off these differing services, many of the log in data can be taken from the phone if they have the application installed.

For more secure applications, second factor authentication can be taken place using an SMS.

Because I have a passion for vehicles, to build by skills in Adobe Illustrator I have taught myself how to use the program efficiently to learn new tools and create accurate and nice looking vectors.
