ABOUT THE FSU COMMUNITY SUMMER BAND!

Sponsored by Ferris State University, the FSU Community Summer Band is the seasonal version of the FSU West Central Concert Band. It is open to all area residents in the Big Rapids area, high school age and older, with experience playing a brass, percussion or woodwind instrument in a concert band setting. Advanced middle school musicians may also participate with their teacher’s recommendation. There is no fee required for the public to play in the Summer Band. It is also possible to take Summer Band for credit at Ferris State University as Music 160. The FSU Community Summer Band meets every summer for 6-7 weeks in June and July. The band rehearses on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Ferris State University’s Music Center. The 2005 rehearsal dates are: June 6, 13, 20 & 27, and July 5 (Tuesday) & July 11. One or two concerts follow each week and are open and free to the public. We invite all community members who will be in town this summer to participate in Summer Band! Simply join us for as many of the six weekly cycles of rehearsals and concerts as you’re able to make. So for all of you musicians out there, young and old – even if you “haven’t had your horn out of the case for a while” – grab your horns, get on the bandwagon, and help fill our summer skies with the sweet sounds of music! For more information, please contact director Scott Cohen at (231) 591-2484 or at [email protected]. Find us on line at www.ferris.edu/music.
