New Palestine High School (NPHS) Athletic Booster Club

Booster Bucks Program Overview

Purpose The New Palestine High School Athletic Booster Club Booster Bucks Program was established to assist the athletic teams at NPHS. The Athletic Booster Club raises funds through concessions, membership fees, and fundraisers held throughout the year. To keep the grant program viable, we ask that your team and families participate and contribute to the Athletic Booster Club’s fundraising efforts.

Eligibility & Dates New Palestine High School athletic teams that do NOT have a separate sport booster club are eligible to apply for grants. Program begins October 1 of current school year and ends for the year when funds are depleted. Criteria & Priorities

1. Grant funds may not be used for: a. Concession stand food or items intended for resale b. Team or individual awards or trophies c. Official Team Uniforms d. Initiatives that do not benefit all players on the team

2. Grant requests cannot exceed $200. Each team may only apply for one grant per school year.

3. Requests for matching funds OR where teams/parents supply the labor for improvement projects are given a priority.

4. Grants are given to requests from teams who have volunteered time or effort to Booster Club activities. AND DO NOT have a separate booster club/program with associated fees and multiple fundraisers for their sport.

5. A team/club Parent or Coach should be available to answer questions as requested. Parents or Sports Reps may fill out the application.

Procedures and reporting requirements:

1. Submit your completed application form to [email protected] 2. April is the last month we accept grant requests for the given school year 3. Applications will be reviewed by the Booster Club Officers and the NPHS Athletic Director in conjunction with the

monthly Athletic Booster Club Meeting Schedule. 4. You will be contacted as to the level of assistance we are able to grant. 5. The funding awarded by the Booster Club will be in the form of a check to your team. Upon completion of the

purchase or activity for which the grant was requested, you must submit a copy of the invoice supporting the monies spent. Please return the invoice to the Athletic Office (clearly marked)or email to [email protected]

If you have questions about the application form, requirements, or process, please call Melisa Duffy at (317) 443-9770 Notes: Each school year, the New Palestine High School Athletic Booster Club will set aside a predetermined amount to fund the Booster Bucks Program based on the prior year's revenue and/or projected revenue for the year. This amount is subject to the discretion of the New Palestine High School Athletic Booster Club Executive Board. The amount for this year is $2,000. The Athletic Booster Club does support all athletes in all sports throughout the year. The money we contribute to the Athletic Office funds letters, patches, jackets, awards, equipment, and uniforms. We recommend you apply for a grant as soon as you receive notification – even if your sport is not in session (if this is the case, have your sports rep consult with your coach.) Suggestions or comments about this program should be directed to Melisa Duffy at the number above.

Honor a NPHS Educator Senior Student-Athletes

Program Overview Purpose Honor our educators and allow senior student athletes to say thank you in a public forum. Incorporate academics into the athletic setting in a fun way. Overview Senior student athletes identify the educator at New Palestine High School or other school that has had the greatest influence on them. These educators will then be celebrated in a pre-game ceremony at a home Basketball game.

Educator Qualities for the Student Athlete to Consider a. Introduced the student-athlete to a subject matter or topic the student may not have considered/explored

before b. Helped the student athlete reach a goal c. Presented subject matter in a way that led to further academic exploration by the student athlete d. Motivated the student athlete to achieve his or her personal best in the classroom

Process & Details

1. Senior Student Athletes submit the name of the NPHS Teacher that has had an impact on his or her education in a confidential email, text, or printed form (coach’s choice and coach can elect to have Booster Club representative coordinate). The message of the email contains a brief overview or story as to why or how that educator has impacted the student athlete. Prompts will be given within the email to student athletes.

2. List is compiled by Athletic Secretary and Booster Club representative and written up in “script” format. 3. Mr. Cooper notifies educators via email that they have been selected by a student athlete as an educator that has

had a positive academic influence on him/her. The Educators are invited to attend a home basketball game to be honored pregame.

4. Educators RSVP for the halftime/event game. And are given priority/reserved seating near the team. Announcements and signs during the evening announce the special event.

5. At a pregame ceremony the educators are introduced to the crowd along with the student athlete that nominated the educator. The educator is given a copy of the nomination form along with Dragon spirtwear and any other gifts as deemed appropriate and approved ahead of time by the Athletic Director.

6. A photo is taken of group and submitted to the local media, posted to website, and announced to staff. Benefits of Program

1. Honors the “student” nature of the student athlete with a focus on an Educator with key influence 2. Enables Seniors to say thank you in a unique way 3. Celebrates Educators in non-traditional environment 4. Presents a positive story to share with the community 5. Ties in nicely to the Going the Extra Mile program 6. Creates a framework for a larger Honor an Educator Initiative
