• Industry Innovation Network, nationwide network for innovators through facilitated events and online platforms.

• VicHealth cocreation model, bringing digital innovators and young people to create apps for youth wellbeing

• City of Melbourne CoMConnect digital innovation unconference and CityLab civic innovation lab

• DFAT Innovation Hub strategy, innovation methodology, team work capability, online platform and ideas challenge competition

• Country Fire Authority FireReady mobile app, strategy, stakeholder coordination, and development

VicTripathon: Victorian Transit App Incubator with support from

Open Knowledge Australia is part of the global Open Knowledge network, which brings together people who are passionate about working and sharing openly. Open Knowledge Melbourne’s Meetup group now has 260 members, who meet regularly to work on a range of ‘open’ topics, from Wikipedia editing to coding. Open Knowledge Melbourne has successfully run major hackathons in 2013 and 2014, attracting a diverse group of developers, designers and data-lovers.

Projects:

• GovHack, national open data hackathon

• HealthHack, a weekend data hack dedicated to problems that medical researchers face.

• OKFN representative Fiona Tweedie was a mentor at SheHacks and a judge at C14Hack.

Code for Australia is supporting the development of a civic-technology ecosystem in Australia. With their three programs, they bring an extensive network and experience working with citizens, civic servants and industry.

Just recently, Code for Australia completed their first Fellowship program and are about to launch their first app developed through the Melbourne Civic Lab.

Additionally, Alvaro Maz has recently worked with PTV on developing their communication standards and has extensive experience in Open Data use and community building.   

Projects:

• Fellowship programs within civic organisations

• Civic lab, free forming teams at open events

• Developing specific civic apps like reroute.it

Contribution to consortium:Designing and running ‘market-ready’ product development phase, connecting to the developer community

NICTA has considerable experience running hacks in-house, as well as considerable expertise in transport, and software development. They have a business team dedicated to Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics, a large in house engineering team as well as large research groups in optimisation, analytics and software. NICTA has 4 labs in Melbourne.

Projects:

• Ran Transport-themed Infrastructure in Melbourne as part of Australia 3.0 2014 (see infrahack.org)

• Key player in Govhack

• Developer of National Map

Contribution to consortium:Supporting the entire process through, resources, strategic insight and marketing. This includes: • helping design the event• providing mentors experienced in UX, product design,

analytics, optimisation and transport• reaching out to their network for high quality participants

VicTripathon: Victorian Transit App Incubator with support from

Owl Ventures is a product development and distribution company based in Melbourne and Shenzhen.

Owl assists entrepreneurs with the necessary steps to commercialise a new product: from concept development and branding, industrial design, software development, prototyping, factory sourcing, manufacturing, through to retail and distribution.

Owl Ventures was co-founded by Andrew Birt who launched the world-renowned and ground breaking LIFX wifi light bulb, controlled and programmable by a smartphone app.

This venture in combination with others past and present has strongly connected Andrew into the digital innovation community within Australian and internationally.

Contribution to consortium:Attracting mentors, investors and the digital products industry; supporting process design, especially the ‘market-ready’ phase
