PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Many of us are just back from our 60th Anniversary Specialty in Ohio. My thanks to the outgoing board and my congratulations to all the new board members. We are elected to represent you and we can accomplish this goal only if we have input from the membership. I believe I am the first President who comes from primarily a per-formance background. I strongly believe that we need to emphasize all facets of the puli. I compete in agility and obedience as well as conformation. I urge you to ex-plore these venues and especially herding. You have never seen a happier puli than when they are doing that which they were born for. This specialty had all of these options for our dogs and they were all very well attended. Try any of these dog sports and see what a strong bond will form between you and your dog as you work together.

Important Information for ALL Members of the Puli Club of America
REGARDING PULI NEWS
Your out-going Board of Directors voted at their Board Meeting at the National Specialty to try a combination of a printed and mailed PULI NEWS which will be issued 4 times a year (March, June, September, December) and a short monthly e-mailed newslet-ter to keep each of our members updated on what is going on with the Club.
If you do NOT have e-mail access, please contact our corresponding secretary (Julie Schuh [email protected]) and she will see that you get a mailed copy of the monthly newsletter. If you do not wish to receive a printed/mailed copy of Puli News, please let our membership chair (Lee Parsons [email protected]) know and he will remove you from the list of members to whom the hard copy is mailed. Please let him know even if you have previously done so.
The COLOR version of Puli News will continue to be posted to the Puli Club (puliclub.org) website as soon as it is finished and an e-mail notification will be sent.
The Board hopes that continuing to mail the printed Puli News four (4) times a year and combining that with a monthly e-mail news-letter will help the Club keep in touch with all our members. If you have news/articles/suggestions of what you’d like to see in Puli News or the monthly newsletter, please let Julie Schuh or Linore Cleveland ([email protected]) know.
PCA recently received news that John Tebbs, a past president of the Puli Club of America, has passed away. Our thoughts and
prayers go to his wife Mary and twin daughters in Kentucky.
If your PULI has earned an AKC title, are you aware that he/she is listed in our Online Book of Titleholders? If you go to the Puli Club website, puliclub.org, and click on the line that mentions the BOT (Book of Titleholders), you will be taken to a page where you can search for your Puli in the Book of Titleholders. Since many of our Pulik have “CALL NAMES” that bear little resemblance to their AKC registered names, one of the things that is shown in the Book of Titleholders is a CALL NAME. However, this CALL NAME can only be given if you, the owner of the Puli, have submitted that information to our Book of Titleholders chair. Since we frequently speak of our dogs with their call names, it is nice to see all the PULIK listed in the Book of Titleholders have a CALL NAME shown. There is also a picture of each PULI in the Book of Titleholders. If you submitted a “NEW TITLE” to your PULI NEWS editor, that picture has probably been used. If you did NOT submit any NEW TITLES for your PULI , then your listing is also missing a Picture.
If your PULI appears in the Book of Titleholders and does NOT have a Call Name and/or Picture listed, please contact our new Book of Titleholders chair, PAM BARBRO-ERSTLING at [email protected] and provide her with your dog’s AKC registered name and his/her CALL NAME and/or a jpg (photo) of your PULI.
THANKS.
IMPORTANT
Your Health Committee has designed, in consultation with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), a health survey for our
breed. OFA controls the survey and the results will be made available to the Health Committee WITHOUT any detail on specific Pulik, once the Health Committee asks OFA to close the survey.
Your Health Committee would like EVERY PULI CLUB MEMBER to take the survey for EACH of the Pulik they have owned—living or deceased. To take the survey, go to offa.org and click on Surveys on the blue line near the top of the first page that comes up. Then select “P” to take you to the surveys for breeds starting with the letter “p” and then click on the survey for PULIK.
The survey will come up and you can answer the questions posed. If you have multiple Pulik to report, you do the survey for each one at a time; once you finish the survey, you can immediately take it again until you have inputted answers for each of your Pulik.
PLEASE PARTICIPATE—it will allow our Health Committee to determine where PCA should focus attention and monies to main-tain the health of our breed.

OPEN COMMITTEE POSITION(S):
The position of Specialty Advisor is open. PCA NEEDS someone to step-up and volunteer to fill this position. The position of Specialty advisor should be spread around the PCA membership. In case of emergencies or the dreaded burn-out , there will always be someone to pick up the reins and continue to insure we will always have our Specialties. If someone will volunteer, Patty Anspach, our current Specialty Advisor, would be overjoyed to have him/her shadow her this year. Don’t be afraid of the big sounding title [ Specialty Advisor ], There are many to answer questions, including AKC, and also to point you in the right direction. Please consider giving of your time and effort so our club , PCA, can continue to enjoy Specialties.
Web Page Committee looking for volunteers If you would like to help update and improve PCA’s website, please let us know. We are looking both for technical skills, to add and change web pages, and for creative skills in building new content. Technical: We are beginning our transition to using the well-known WordPress tool for many of PCA’s web pages. No special PC tools are needed, just your own web browser and a certain amount of computer literacy. BUT, you don’t need to be a web pro-grammer. We can work with you to learn WordPress, which is kind of like using a word processor. Content creation: The most important things are knowledge of the Puli breed and the Club, along with good visual design skills. Graphical layout and photo processing skills are a plus. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions, please contact the Chair of the Web Page Committee, Jim Moen at [email protected]
Herding Chair The herding chair for PCA serves as statistician to determine those Pulik who should be recognized in the Herding Top 10 each year. The chair also organizes or finds a chair to organize a herding test(s) and/or trial(s) for each Specialty where it is possible to have a herding event. Herding instinct is still strong in the Puli and it is important that the club recognize herding accomplishments by our dogs and support events that determine or demonstrate the strength of this instinct. Public Education Coordinator The public education coordinator oversees and provides assistance for the hosting of “Meet the Breed” events. In addition, the public
education coordinator develops and distributes materials to publicize the activities of the Puli Club of America
Legislative Liaison
The legislative liaison keeps abreast of legislation that applys to the owning, breeding, and selling of dogs and shares that information
with the club via articles in Puli News and alerts to our members when action is required to have our members voice their objections
to said legislation. Given the “no pets” agenda of various organizations, it is important for PCA to stay aware of what is being pro-
posed and how it affects our members.
MORE IMPORTANT NEWS FOR PULI CLUB OF AMERICA MEMBERS
Currently, there are several open Committee positions . The PCA Board asks that you consider each of these positions and think seri-ously about whether you can lend us your talents and volunteer to either chair or help with any of the following committee positions. If you feel that you cannot do the entire job but are willing to do a portion of the job, please let us know — in many instances, the activities can be split between several people.
PCA is only as strong as its member participants. In most instances, you do not have to participate with your dog in organized activities to be involved in our committees. And if you’d like to get your “feet wet” by helping with any of PCA’s committees and, especially, those that have open positions, PLEASE VOLUNTEER.

MORE IMPORTANT NEWS FOR PULI CLUB OF AMERICA MEMBERS
On Thursday October 1st, 2015 the Morris & Essex Kennel Club came to life for its once-in-every-five-years staging. The event was historic and did not disappoint with an entry of 4666 dogs. With the number of entries at most dog shows decreas-ing over recent years, a show of this size is truly a sight to behold. Morris & Essex Kennel Club's president, Mr. Wayne Fergu-son, stated that the entry made the dog show the second largest in American history. The club's existence and the revival of its shows were the vision of Mr. Ferguson and carry on the legacy of Mrs. Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge. Perhaps the only thing that could rival the pagentry and epic proportions of the show is its historic founding and history. To read more about Mrs. Dodge and Morris & Essex, consult the club's website at www.morrisandessexkennelclub.org. The show was held at the expansive Colonial Park in Somerset, New Jersey. The queue of cars waiting to enter the park in the early morning was substantial with some exhibitors reporting over an hours' wait to get into the show grounds. As a result, the start of judging was postponed, but judges worked diligently to bring breed judging back on track so that groups could be-gin as scheduled at 3pm. It was a cold day. The sky was overcast; however, rain held off until later in the afternoon. Morris & Essex strives to maintain Mrs. Dodge's philosophy that exhibitors should be treated as guests. As such there was no parking fee charged, shuttles took dogs and exhibitors from more distant parking lots to the grounds, and every exhibitor received a free box lunch. Generous trophies were also offered with each breed winner receiving a silver plated revere bowl inscribed with the club's insignia. Twenty-six rings and scores of judges kept the show on pace and a vast majority of exhibitors dressed well for the occasion wearing vintage clothing and hats from the era of Mrs. Dodge's Morris & Essex shows, 1927-1957. The Puli Club of America sponsored a supported entry at the 2015 show. Thanks go to Barbe Pessina and Rhonda-Lynn Di-Matteo for coordinating the donation of PCA trophies for the supported entry. Appreciation is also due to Jackie Beaudoin who sponsored the offering of the silver plated Morris & Essex Best of Breed trophy. Hats off to you all! The supported entry drew a total of eight pulik (one was absent) and the results (for the 7 who participated) are shown on the next page. Congratulations to Ann Bowley and Fran Levinson for their Best of Breed and Best of Opposite winners!

From Les Stallings comes this information about Bowmaker Red, White, and Blue “BLU”
Our double BIS (same day regular BIS and Owner-Handled BIS) was awarded by Judge Larry F. Mackai on May 25, at the Blooming-ton, IL show The following weekend (May 31), Judge Judith Ann Smith awarded Blu a Reserve BIS at the Woodstock, VA show. September 20, Judge Jon R. Cole awarded Blu a Reserve BIS at the Anniston, AL show. Other placements of significance are Blu's seven regular Group 1s and his nineteen Owner-Handled Best In Shows. With only one week remaining in the National Owner Handled Series competitive year, it is mathematically impossible for anyone of any breed to beat us out of the #1 ranking amongst all breeds. It has been a very long journey, but successful. Les Stallings & Glen VanDerHart

Also your editor accidentally overlaid the comments from Anne Kemp about our 2014 #1 Herding Puli—REGGIE—on the picture in the printed edition of the August issue of Puli News so am reprinting the information here:
Reggie is coming along with her training for her AKC intermediate titles. She received her first leg and a second place in her first trial and will compete again this fall. In May she completed her AKC started, ducks, with 2 first places and a reserve high in trial. She also completed her AHBA level 2, ducks, with a third and a first place. She loves to do a good job and when she finishes her course she twirls and barks and twirls and barks!

AKC Gazette—Puli Breed Column—September 2015
By Dagmar Fertl
I asked Nancy Kelly ([email protected]) to join me as a coauthor this month, since she has trained and competed in obedience with several Pulik, starting in 1990. Nancy has served as the Puli Club of America’s (PCA’s) Obedience Statistician since 2003. We thank Patty Anspach (PCA Historian) for her assistance with tracking down historic records, as well as Barb Edwards who previously served as Obedience Statistician and helped us fill in information gaps.
Puli Participation in Obedience
The AKC began offering obedience competitions in the late 1930s (http://www.akc.org/events/obedience/history/) around the same time that the AKC recognized the Puli as a breed. “Dongo” (Kurucz Legeny CDX), owned and handled by Harriet K. Ewing in 1947, was the first Puli to earn a CD and CDX. As of around June 2015, 646 Pulik have earned a combined 995 titles in the regular obedience classes (note: the statistics for 2015 are incomplete). Titles are awarded for each level of obedience in the Novice, Open, and Utility classes, with continued titles — UDX, OTCH, and OGM — requiring a sustained level of achievement for combinations in the Open and Utility level classes. Pulik have earned 646 CD titles, 227 CDX titles, 93 UD titles, 14 UDX titles, 14 OTCH titles, and 1 OGM title. The number of Pulik earning titles drops sharply after the CD - only 35 percent of Pulik have earned titles past the CD.
The first Puli (in 1978) to earn the highest obedience title - OTCH - was “Buksi” (CH OTCH Pulikcounty's Omar Khayaam) owned and handled by Julius Hidassy. The other 13 Pulik earning the OTCH are: “Effie” (OTCH Pulikairn Effie Lou Plunket) owned and handled by Mary Jane Richert; “Huggy Bear” (CH OTCH Prydain Edyrnion) owned and handled by Leslie Leland; “Hety” (CH OTCH Prydain Hetyke TD) owned and handled by Nancy Etchell; “Pumpkin” (OTCH The Great Pumpkin) owned and handled by Robyn Broock; “Boo” (CH OTCH Prydain Jocko) owned and handled by Nancy Patton; “Muffy” (OTCH Kelseys Midnight Star) owned and handled by Elaine Brock; “Ozzie” (OTCH Prydain Ozzie Plunket) owned and handled by Mary Jane Richert; “Pici” (OTCH Windkist Bartok's Pici, UDX2) owned and handled by Nancy Kelly; “Mandi” (OTCH Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin UDX8) owned and handled by Nancy Kelly; “Pepper” (CH OTCH Bartok's Magyar Csardas UDX11 HSAs) owned and handled by Nancy Kelly; “Kicsi” owned and handled by Nancy Kelly; “Eb” (OTCH Bartok's Little Black Note UDX2 OM4 HSAs) owned and han-dled by Dottie Culpepper; and “Fizz” (OTCH Meadow View Silver Fizz UDX2 OM4 GO VER RN NA NAJ) owned and handled by John D. Landis. Interestingly, 64 percent (9 of 14) of OTCHs are female – so it seems that maybe the bitches are taking their obedi-ence jobs much more seriously than the males!
What makes a good obedience prospect? A dog who: (1) is fit and athletic, with good physical structure; (2) has good energy and sus-tained interest in working with their human; (3) is intelligent and confident; (4) is biddable (willing to please and has a desire to learn); and (5) has the ability to stay focused.
Looking at dog breeds competing in the obedience ring – the Puli is seldom seen, compared to other breeds like the Golden Re-triever. While Pulik are not as numerous as, say for example, Golden Retrievers, and correspondingly, there are also fewer Pulik suc-cessfully competing in obedience than there are Golden Retrievers — there is actually a higher percentage of OTCH Pulik than there are OTCH Golden Retrievers, relative to the total number of dogs registered in each breed. This interesting fact is something of which we Puli people can be really proud.
The Puli is particularly bright and must be kept challenged. The Puli quickly figures out that if the sequence is A then B then C then D, why shouldn’t he/she simply go from A to D? The human part of the team must keep the Puli on his/her toes and engaged. The sport is about having fun and presenting new challenges to maintain the interest, while also providing precision. Neither the Puli nor the handler can think of themself as an individual, but as a part of a team.
An obedience dog can complete for many years. There are physical demands and it is important to have regular health checks done. Hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and patellas to name a few, are important to have checked on your dog. The coat of the Puli in obedience is not as important as it is in conformation. The coat can be any length and can be corded or brushed, and the hair can be tied back in a topknot. Frequently, the coat is trimmed to a short length to preclude problems of the cords hitting a jump and causing a bar to fall or be interpreted by the judge as the dog “hitting” the jump instead of clearing it.
PCA has always felt it is important to showcase all of the attributes of the breed including conformation, obedience, herding and agil-ity. The National Specialty includes conformation, regular obedience, and Rally obedience each year, as well as herding and agility in most years. The list of High Scoring Puli in Trial may be found at the PCA website.
Puli News - October 2015, Page 14
Since 1995, the AKC has held an annual National Obedience Invitational, which is now called the National Obedience Championship. The top OTCH or OTCH-pointed dogs from each breed are invited to compete. As a point to note, in spite of the relatively small numbers of Puli compared to other breeds (like the Golden Retriever), at least one Puli has been invited every year since the event began. This means there has been one or more Pulik that have earned OTCH points and could be invited; many breeds cannot say this.
The years 1965–1995 saw the largest number of Pulik competing in obedience classes. There has since been a decline in Puli participa-tion in the regular obedience classes. Concurrent with this decline is the fact that the AKC has added many more dog sports and ven-ues in which to participate, including Rally Obedience, as well as a number of Titling classes in obedience not considered in the three obedience classes of Novice, Open, and Utility statistics. However, obedience remains an important foundation for many of these other venues.

PCA BREED MENTORING PROGRAM
PCA Breed Mentoring Guidelines follow the format of the American Kennel Club judging approval guidelines. It has been many years since we have printed these requirements in Puli News or updated our Breed Mentor list. The Judges Education Committee thought it was time to revisit these requirements and refresh the information for some of our newer members of the Club.
To enable prospective Puli judges to find appropriate mentors AKC requests each parent club to maintain a list of approved breed mentors. We encourage ALL qualified Puli breeders that are members in good standing of the Puli Club of America to apply for in-clusion in this list. If your name is currently on the list of mentors and you would like to be removed please contact Barbe Pes-sina – [email protected].
Approved breed mentors must demonstrate their Puli experience, knowledge and ability to communicate effectively. They must also meet the following AKC minimum requirements:
1. 12 years of documented experience in the breed
2. Breeder of 5 or more litters that produced at least 4 champions
3. Comparable experience in dogs/Pulik which consists of a combination of four of the following components
A: 15 or more years experience in conformation
B: Bred at least 2 champions
C: Bred & raised 4 litters on your premises
D: Breeder of Merit
E: Owned or maintained for the duration 4 dogs of a breed that earned
Championship, earning all 15 points and both majors, or
Grand championship, earning all 25 points, 3 majors
and defeating a special on 3 occasions.
F: Personally exhibited 2 dogs of a breed as specials for a minimum of 2
years or approximately 60 shows.
G: Document 25 years of experience exhibiting dogs in AKC Conformation events.
These criteria are flexible and take into account the various interests of persons who have a documented history of involvement in the Puli breed, either as a breeder, exhibitor, or in another capacity which has provided them with the understanding and knowledge of the relationship between form and function. It is paramount that mentors be able to explain to judges how to recognize breed type and soundness quickly and efficiently without projecting their own preferences into their presentation or remarks.
Applicants must sign and agree to the conditions noted on the Mentor Application and agree that they are willing and able to present the Puli breed in a positive manner according to the AKC Puli Standard and the Illustrated Guide; will use only PCA Judges Education Committee approved materials and hand-outs; and will answer prospective judges questions honestly and fairly without making unso-licited negative or derogatory statements about another person’s Pulis, nor volunteer information about the identify and/or show re-cord of dogs used for demonstration purposes. Mentors must be able to articulate their understanding of the breed standard.
It is expected that Applicants will attend at least one National Specialty Judges Education Seminar.
We encourage any PCA members that meet the above requirements apply and contribute their talents and interest to this program.

DO YOU HAVE A NEW PUPPY OR ARE YOU CONSIDERING GETTING ONE?
The 10 Most Common Claims Puppies Face Be PREPARED!
Puppies and kittens have a knack for getting themselves into mischief and Trupanion, a company offering medical in-surance for pets, has seen it all. Trupanion looked into its claims to see what ten conditions puppies face most often. This is what they found:
1. Vomiting and diarrhea
2. Fracture
3. Foreign body ingestion
4. Parvo
5. Broken Tooth
6. Pneumonia
7. Gastroenteritis
8. Cough
9. Urinary tract infection
10. Giardia
A new pet owner can do everything in their power to bring home a healthy puppy, but any pet can become ill or in-jured, and it is important to be prepared to care for them every step of the way. Medical insurance for your pet can help alleviate the costs of veterinary care, especially if your puppy gets into big trouble. Ben and Julie found that out soon after bringing home their 12-week-old puppy, Harry. “One Sunday morning, Harry got one of those sudden bursts of energy all dog owners are familiar with. He darted out of the room, charged up three stairs, turned around and jumped, landing awkwardly with a yelp,” said Julie. They im-mediately realized they would need to take him to the emergency veterinarian. “X-rays showed Harry had fractured his elbow in two places at the growth plate. He would need surgery to put in pins and screws for stabilization. While there was no question we’d go ahead with the treatment, the several-thousand-dollar cost definitely called for a deep breath.” The treatment for Harry’s fracture was expensive, but insurance covered $2,005 of the total. The surgery went well and Harry was soon back to being himself. PCA does not endorse any particular insurance company offering pet health insurance. However, we do suggest that each owner of a Puli weigh the pros and cons of having insurance on your Puli and any other dogs you may own. Con-sider carefully what is being offered and the cost/benefit of having insurance on your pets. You may find it offers you piece of mind to have such insurance. However, this is definitely an individual decision.

NOTES FROM THE PAST: (Puli News August 1970—with some editing)
PULI CLUB OF AMERICA’S FIRST SPECIALTY
The Puli Club of America’s FIRST Specialty was held in 1955, predating by 9 years the first specialty of the next specialty given by a local area Puli Club. It is hoped that in the near fu-ture there will be more Specialty giving Puli local clubs.
OX RIDGE Kennel Club of Darien Conn., on September 24, 1955, hosted that FIRST PULI CLUB OF AMERICA SPECIALTY. Puli News reported:
The greatest show in the history of the Puli Club took place on Saturday, September 24, at Darien, Conn. on the grounds of the beautiful Ox Ridge Hunt Club.
In spite of a driving rain which continued throughout the day, 17 Pulik out of a record entry of 19 were judged in the various classes.
Top Puli, as was expected, was the famous champion and sire, APeter Pan from the Skysyl Kennels. But Best of Opposite went to a practically unknown bitch which had never won even Reserve honors under a half a dozen other judges.
Judging that 1st Specialty was Mr. Alva Rosenberg who placed the following:
BOB CH SKYSYL APETER PAN, Skysyl Kennels
BOS SKYSYL BIRRICHINNA, Skysyl Kennels
WD SKYSYL EXTRA SPECIAL, Skysyl Kennels
RD SKYSYL CHIEFTAIN, Mary Bell Devlin
RB KYLEND’S DEMI-TASSE, Skysyl Kennels
In Obedience, GEORGIA PUTZ, owned and trained by Rudolph de Wardener, with an al-most perfect score became the first UD Puli in America.
Editors Note:
Note that even at the very first Specialty of the Puli Club of America, Puli’s doing Obedience were recognized. The Puli has many talents and the Puli Club has recognized those talents from that very first Specialty. And we have grown from there: in the 2015 Specialty, Pulis participated in and were recognized for excellent in Agility, Obedience, Rally, and Herding. And others also participate in additional sports not necessarily recognized by the AKC at this time. In 2016, your editor hopes to focus on some of these “other” sports you might want to try with your Puli. Competition is fun but so is just going to a class on a regular basis or working at home and doing “STUFF” with your Puli. Most Pulis enjoy being more than just “couch potatoes” so do look for things you can do with your Puli.

THE PULI CLUB OF AMERICA'S
GUIDELINES FOR OWNERS/BREEDERS/EXHIBITORS
The Puli Club of America, Inc. in accordance with the objectives of its Constitution, expects its members to use these guidelines in establishing a standard of conduct for themselves as owners, breeders, sellers and exhibitors of Pulik. Every person who owns a Puli has an inherent responsibility to protect our breed. A. A PULI OWNER WILL PROVIDE ALL DOGS WITHIN THEIR KEEPING WITH:
· Appropriate food, water, health care and shelter. · Emotional requirements of attention, affection and appropriate training.
B. A PULI BREEDER WILL: · Be well-informed about the Standard of our breed. · Be aware that the purpose of breeding is to maintain or improve the quality of
the breed in accordance with the standard. · Use all available means such as knowledge of ancestors, and CHIC testing to
determine that breeding stock is free of inheritable disease. PCA required CHIC testing includes:
1. OFA or Penn Hip for hips 2. OFA for patella 3. OFA Degenerative Myelopathy (DNA test) 4. CERF (Canine Eye Registry)/OFA Eye Registry to be updated
every 3 years Additional tests that can be performed but are not required include:
1. OFA for elbows 2. OFA for cardiac 3. OFA for thyroid 4. BAER (hearing) test
· Obtain radiologically normal OFA/Penn Hip evaluation on all breeding stock before breeding.
· Use only stock which is itself sound in body and temperament. · Breed only when in a position to properly care for the bitch and litter,
recognizing that offspring might need housing for a considerable length of time.
· Not breed a bitch at her first season, before the age of 2, nor breed her more than 2 out of 3 consecutive heat periods, taking the health of the bitch into consideration at all times.
· Enter into all breeding arrangements with written contracts. · Keep accurate and thorough breeding records in full accordance with AKC
requirements. · Prevent all breedings that are not carefully planned and provide adequate
kenneling to prevent accidental or unplanned matings. · Insist that a visiting bitch be in the stud owner’s care and/or supervision
before, through and until completion of estrus, so that accidental mating to another stud not occur.
· Not substitute one stud for another without the knowledge and agreement of all parties.
· Pay careful attention to physical and emotional needs of puppies produced.
· Keep all puppies in the litter until they are a minimum of eight (8) weeks of age.
· Be aware at all times that producing puppies is a commitment and they remain responsible for puppies they produce throughout the lifetime of those dogs.
· Breeders are required to provide assistance to dogs of their breeding in need of re-homing, including taking the dogs back and fostering them until they can relocate them to a new home.
C: PERSON SELLING A PULI WILL:
· Maintain a reasonable price within one’s locale, which price should also be compatible with national prices.
· Intelligently and honestly classify stock as show prospect, breeding prospect or pet.
· Provide AKC papers with limited registration if the dog is a potential detriment to the breed.
· Ascertain that the prospective owner has the knowledge, ability and facilities to properly care for a Puli.
· Give the buyer an honest appraisal of coat management, physical, mental and nutritional needs peculiar to the breed.
· Provide a pedigree of at least 3 generations, typed or written legibly. · Supply records to the buyer regarding immunization, feeding and instructions
for future care. · Release only puppies which are in good health and guarantee the health of the
puppy for a reasonable length of time. · Only release puppies after 8 weeks of age which is in keeping with most
animal welfare laws. · Provide written contractual proof of sale and guarantees. If registration
papers are not yet available, a bill of sale, giving names and registration numbers of sire and dam and date of birth are required.
· Avoid false and misleading advertising, including internet and websites. · Not sell or provide stock to pet shops or commercial kennels. · Not donate dogs, puppies or adults, for contests, raffles, or fund raising
events. D. A PERSON SHOWING A PULI WILL:
· Show and encourage the showing of high quality stock. · Exhibit only the most creditable ring deportment and accept the services of
only those professional handlers whose behavior is exemplary. · Help the novice exhibitor and breeder. Use kind, constructive and honest
criticism. · Display good sportsmanship and conduct themselves, whether at home,
traveling, at shows, or in hotels, in such a manner as to reflect credit upon the Puli Club of America, themselves and the Puli as a breed.
· Exhibit dogs that are clean, in good physical condition and under control.

LITTER LISTINGS
Breeder Litter listings are accepted from Puli Club of America members in good standing. Litter listings here will also be listed on PCA's web site at www.Puliclub.org/pcabreeders.htm. “In order for a Litter to be listed on the Breeders page in Puli News and Puliclub.org, a breeder must be a general member of PCA in good standing. They must also pay whatever the current fee is for the listing. Proof of the required CHIC health tests for hips, patellas, DM and CERF/OFA Eye Reg-istry for sire and dam must be provided. CERF/OFA Eye Registry testing on sire and dam must have occurred within the last 3 years”
Zeal to produce champions or perpetuate a bloodline must never compromise a breeder's sensitivity to the quality of life that every Puli bred will experience. Breeders must consider the welfare of the Puli above personal gain or profit. Breeders have the responsibility to insure the welfare of all puppies they produce and remain responsible for those Pulik throughout their entire lifetime. Should the situation arise, breeders are required to provide assistance to dogs of their breeding in need of re-homing, including taking the dogs back and fostering them until they can relocate them to a new home.
This wording has been added to insure that breeder's own the ultimate responsibility for the dogs they produce throughout their lifetime. The Puli Club of America Rescue Trust is not responsible for placing dogs bred by known people in the breed, and the Board felt that clear lines need to be established to advise everyone of their responsibility in the future. Should Rescue be advised of a Puli in need of re-homing their first obligation is to try to determine who the breeder is, and then contact that person in order that they can make the necessary
arrangements for their dog.
