Principal’s Message

Parents,

It is truly amazing how quickly the first term has gone.

Here it is December already. In two short weeks it will be the Christmas break. But

before that happens, there are many events and activities that will be happening here

at Queens Park.

On December 12th report cards for the first term will be coming home. We will be

having our Queens Park hockey evening on December 13th from 5-6:30pm for our QP

hockey participants.

The annual Christmas Store hosted by the ladies from “The Order of the Eastern

Star” will be held on Monday, December 16th in our gym. At this event, any child can

purchase Christmas presents for their family for $2 or less.

Our annual Christmas lunch will happen for our students on Wednesday, December

18th. If your Grade 1-5 child is already on the hot lunch program, they will receive this

lunch. If your Grade 1-5 child does not participate in the QP hot lunch program, they

can order a full Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and a present for $5. This is a

pre-order lunch. The deadline has been extended to Friday, December 6th.

Our Christmas concert will be held at the Cleland Theatre on Thursday, December

19th at 1:15pm and 6pm. For the 1:15pm show you do not need tickets. Just show up to

the Theatre and enjoy the show. The 6pm show requires tickets. There will only be

two tickets per family available for the evening show. Your child’s teacher will be

handing out tickets on Monday, December 16th. Any extra tickets (from families not

attending) will be distributed equally throughout the school and will be handed out

by your child’s teacher as they become available. At both shows, please be respectful

to others and obey audience etiquette. Turn off cell phones, please don’t shout out, or

talk, during the performance as there are both singing and speaking parts and the

children need to be heard. It will be a wonderful show and we are all looking very

forward to seeing the performance “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas”.

Thank you for your continued support of Queens Park Elementary School.

It is a wonderful place to work, learn, and play.

Sincerely,

Mr. Manning

Our One-to-One Reading Program is always in need of volunteers.

This is a very rewarding position where you can give the students the opportunity to

practice their reading skills, increase their self-confidence and improve reading fluency/

comprehension, but most of all to be successful at school and in life. If you are unable

to commit to a full time position of 1.5 hours/one day per week we are also in need of

substitute volunteers. Neighbours? Grandparents? In-laws? We can provide an orien-

tation of the reading room and training. Don’t miss out on this experience to give back

to your community and our future generation!

Please Contact: Laura Weber, District Coordinator/One to One Reading

Medical alert forms are available at the office and must be

updated each school year.

If your child has a potential life threatening or medical condi-

tion, a form needs to be completed immediately.

If your child has a medical situation that requires medicine

to be administered at the school, you must also complete

new forms.

A Community StrongStart Program is run here at Queen’s Park School. The StrongStart Centre is open to

parents/caregivers and their children, from birth – 5 years old. This program is funded by the Ministry of

Education and sponsored by School District No. 67. By offering an environment and play area where

parents and children can participate in activities together (art, reading, music/songs, imaginative play

and creative activity, etc.), the Center will support parents with resources so they better understand and

assist their child’s development through the first five years of life.

The StrongStart Centre will be open on all school days Monday to Thursday from 8:30am— 11:30am.

Dad’s Night session each Wednesday evening from 5pm—7pm. Come on our Dads (Grandfathers,

Uncles, etc) and enjoy special time with your child/ren. Please drop in to the Centre at any time during

these hours for a visit or come for the full three hours. Please bring your child’s Birth Certificate with you

as we do need to have a copy on file. This is a free program for all families in the Penticton area. The

facilitator of the program is Mrs. Fiona Nicholson ECE.

We look forward to seeing you at the StrongStart Center. If you have any questions, please call the

principal, Mr. Scott Edwards at (250) 770-7680 or Mrs. Fiona Nicholson, ECE, at (250) 770-7680 for

more information.

Early Years Centre The Okanagan Skaha Early Years Centre is a place for families to access the early years’ services they need. Early

Years Centres across the province of BC have been established to provide families and communities access to

resources such as referrals to programs for early child development, health and dentals concerns, early literacy,

early learning opportunities, developmental screening and much more.

The Okanagan Skaha Early Years Centre (Okanagan Skaha EYC) was developed through a strong partnership be-

tween School District 67-Okanagan Skaha and Penticton & District Community Resources Society (PDCRS). The

Centre is hosted by PDCRS and is offered in Parkway Elementary, Queen’s Park Elementary, Naramata Elemen-

tary, Kaleden Elementary and Summerland Food Bank & Hub.

For more information about the Okanagan Skaha Early Years Centre, contact Penticton & District Community Re-

source Society at (250) 492-5814. To contact Eileen Muzzin, the Okanagan Skaha Early Years Facilitator, call
