What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Question Three - Audience Feeback

Audience feedback and peer assessment has really helped me to create ideas and think about what I wanted to do in my music video. I created a survey to assess my story board and I found this really useful as I could collect people’s opinions and analyse them. I then used these to add or edit slight sections when I actually filmed and it helped me have a clearer idea of what my audience expected and wanted. For example on of the main things was close up shots of my artist, so I made sure when filming and editing I used lots of them to meet the conventions of my genre.

Introduction

As well as audience feedback, I got my work assessed by my peers and my teacher to get some critical feedback after we created our first draft video. This was really helpful as it broke down what I did well and what I could improve on, so I could then take on board that feedback and use it in my final draft. For example, they mentioned that I could include more close up shots of my artist, therefore whilst filming I was very conscious of this and implemented that in my final video. Also having a clear guideline taught me what I needed to do to boost my grade, so I learnt from my peers. For my final audience feedback I also chose to do a survey and only have my target audience answer it to gather their views on the video. Although the majority of feedback was very positive some people gave a little bit of criticism. The general feedback was that most people liked the video but some people felt that the narrative was not that clear and the editing was not as fast paced as it should be. Audience feedback has helped me to evaluate my own work and been extremely beneficial in helping me to understand what I could have done better if I were to make another music video.

In getting feedback from the audience I have learnt what they expect and what they like and don’t like, which throughout this process has helped me to develop ideas and tailor my video for my audience to meet their expectations. This in turn has made the video and ancillary texts better as I have strived to make them appropriate and appealing for my audience based on the feedback they have given me. For example when looking at my digipak, the feedback I received was that it needed to be more colourful and a cartoon style theme may be better suited, so I incorporated those ideas within my final draft.
