How we respond to the increase in diversity in America will be a challenge for many schools and communities, but it need not be a problem.

First the Cons:

• There will be many different languages spoken in one place.•New minorities bring conflicts with the residents who see them as inferior.•America still viewed as a “melting pot” instead of a “diverse showcase”.•Teachers must change our approach diversity even though we don’t like change.

Now the Pros:•New immigrants often revive the local economies.•More diverse people employed means more support for social services as people live longer.•Teachers can develop curricula to promote awareness, reduce fear and reduce insecurities.•This translates into students learning respect for others because of their differences.
