At the beginning of this Rotary year, Iasked Rotarians everywhere to Light UpRotaryby holding a Rotary Day. How youdo this is something I'm leaving up to

you: It can be a full day or just a fewhours. It can be organized by your club,by your district, or even across your en-tire country. It can be a service project, afestival, or any kind of event you want.

As long as it's open to the community, mbraces the whole family of Rotary, and is fun, it's a Ro-ry Day.

he goal of a Rotary Day is to shine a light on Rotary. Forany years, we in Rotary felt that it wasn't appropriate to

oast about our good work. We felt it was best to serveuietly and let our work speak for itself. But today, in manymmunities, people aren't even aware that they have a

cal Rotary club. Not because the clubs aren't strong, orecause they aren't serving well. They are. But if Rotarianson't talk about their work, people will never know about it.

s time for us to Light Up Rotaryand let people knowhat we are doing. In the first half of this Rotary year, I'veeen thrilled to see how many Rotarians have taken up myotary Day challenge. I've attended Rotary Days in soany places, including the Philippines, Korea, China, thenited States, Turkey, India, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, and Bang-desh. Every one has been different, and every one haset the challenge to Light Up Rotaryin its own way.

you've organized a Rotary Day in your community, tell usbout it: Email details and photos of your event to [email protected],with "Rotary Day" as your subject line.e'll do our best to feature as many Rotary Days as possi-e in the coming months.

nd if you haven't planned a Rotary Day yet, why not? It'sgreat way to share your love for Rotary with your com-unity. When we tell others about Rotary and let themow how membership can enrich their lives, we share a

ft that was given to us when we were invited to join ourubs. By passing that gift on, we help ensure that Rotary,nd its service, will endure for generations to come.

January: In Roman times, this was sybolized by the two-headed god Janusone head looking back and one headlooking forward.

This is the time for us to take stock ansee, of the goals we set for ourselvesthe start of the year, how many we haachieved, and how we can fully realizof them by the end of this Rotary year

How are we meeting our goal of polio eradication? Did wencourage our district to give 20 percent of its District Denated Fund toward the eradication of this terrible disease

Are we supporting National Immunization Days? There istill much to do. The number of polio cases in Pakistan in2014 far exceeded the number in 2013.

Have you made your contribution to our charityour oncharityour Rotary Foundation? Have we impressed onthose Rotarians who have not made a contribution the neto do so? The number of Rotarians who have not given tour Foundation far exceeds the number who have given, and we need to reverse that statistic. Our target for the Anual Fund is US$123 million.
