BIBLE STUDY

The morning session of the Infancy Narratives Bible Study ended with a super-salad luncheon. Think "Stone Soup" but with salad. Everyone brought something ready to toss into the salad bowl with a few special extras like Sue Williamson's deviled eggs and Jody Breakell's spiced pecans, Monica Lenci's amazing bread, Barbara Glynn's special cookies, etc. The session was a perfect fit for the Advent season. The series will resume after Easter with a new study to be determined by results of the survey just completed today. Wishing you all the blessings of this holy season.

“They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold,

frankincense, and myrrh.”

Gospel Reflection Matthew 2:1-12 The story of the astrologers, or magi, following the light of a distant star is full of surprises. The astrologers, who were Gentiles, were the first to worship Jesus as the newborn King of the Jews. They found him, not in a palace surrounded by signs of wealth and might, but as a helpless baby in the arms of Mary, his mother. Yet the astrologers believed and worshiped him, offering him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then, Matthew tells us, full of joy and wonder, they returned to their distant homes.

The astrologers had the faith and wisdom to see in this baby the promised Messiah. Christ shows himself to us, too, and comes into our lives in many ways and through many people. If we are people of faith, we will find him in these little "epiphanies." We will offer him our own gifts—our prayers and worship, our loving service of others, and our constant faith, even when it might seem hard to find him.

Question of the Week: What “signs” in your life have led you to Jesus?

Family Discussion Questions for the Gospel Reflect on some of the "little epiphanies" in your life. Share that with others. Happy New Year! May your New Year be filled with great faith, joy and wonder.

Thought for the week

May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope; The spirit of Christmas which is peace; The heart of Christmas which is love.

~Ada V. Hendricks
