Chicago: The First 100 Years, 1833-1933via Zoom • February 11 • 7:00pm - 8:30pmLocal historian and author Phil Aleo examines how Chicago grew to become one of the largest and most significant cities in the United States. It’s hard to imagine that the metro-Chicago area today has a population of nearly ten million when just two hundred years ago the land was inhabited by the Potawatomi Indians. The original Fort Dearborn, built in 1803, laid in ruins after being burned down in 1812. There was only a French Canadian Fur trader named Antoine Ouilmette, for whom the village of Wilmette is named, living in the shadows of the old burned out fort until the U.S. Army returned to rebuild it in 1816.Local historian and author of Dundee Township: Moments Frozen in Time, Phil Aleo, will explore the very beginnings of the Windy City.
