The Counter Reformation
• In response to the Protestant Reformation, the Catholic church started it’s own movement to make changes.
• Catholics wanted to keep people true to the Catholic faith.
• The movement was also known as the Catholic Reformation.

• Jesuits – A religious order that focused on founding schools, converting non-Christians, and stopping the spread of Protestantism.

authority of the Pope• Led the Council of Trent, 1545-1563
• Rulings of the Council of Trent• The Church’s interpretation of the Bible was final.
