POPE FRANCIS
Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our catechesis for this Holy Year of Mercy, we now consider two further corporal works of
mercy: healing the sick and visiting the imprisoned. Jesus himself is our model in both. He shows us the importance of
drawing near to those who so often feel alone and abandoned. How much good is done when we visit the sick and those
in prison, and how much we ourselves are enriched by these acts of charity! Visiting the imprisoned is a fruitful way of
bringing the Lord’s healing presence to those who are paying for their mistakes. Deprived of their freedom, they especial-
ly need to hear the message of God’s merciful love and forgiveness, and in this way to recognize their worth and dignity.
Jesus himself, though innocent, suffered in prison for our sake, and the apostles Peter and Paul used the time of their
imprisonment to pray and proclaim the Gospel. By visiting the sick and the imprisoned, may we bring God’s mercy and
its redemptive power to our brothers and sisters in need.

Reaching Out in Mercy-Diocesan Appeal 2016- 1
The updated report as of November 9, 2016 for Sacred Heart Cathedral, Prince George
Appeal Goal: $ 42,936 Pledges Received: $ 19, 700.00
Adoration
From next week, there will be no Adoration, Confession & Mass every Friday evening. Adoration will be only every
first Friday of the month, 12:45 pm - 1:30 pm.
Volleyball games and practices are continuing. Boys and girls from Sacred Heart are in training to retain the trophies
which they won last year. Thank you to the teachers who are leading this healthy extra-curricular activity. Go, Panthers!
On Saturday, November 26th, students preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will gather for the celebration at
9:35 a.m. We wish them every blessing as they approach this milestone on their faith journey.
The annual S.H.S. Service of Remembrance took place on November 10th at Sacred Heart Cathedral. At this solemn
event, we prayed for those who gave their lives in past wars and peacekeeping missions. The service ended with a short
dramatic presentation entitled "Aileen's Teddy Bear". This true story shared the experience of one Montreal family
during WW1.
On November 10th at 3:00 p.m. we honoured Mike Van Adrichem R.I.P., a tireless worker for Catholic Education. Our
renovated Learning Assistance Room was dedicated to his memory. Many of his family members attended in addition
to school staff. Thank you to all who participated.
Many of our classrooms are having visits from Huble Homestead staff. This year the students are exploring the history
of First Nations in the local area.
Our students & staff are gathering donations for the Festival of Trees. The organizations we are helping to support this
year are The Phoenix Transition Home and Baby's New Beginnings. Thank you to all who can help.
What is the Guardian Angel Fund?
The Guardian Angel Fund is a donation-giving opportunity for Sacred Heart Parishioners to support Sacred Heart
School. The monies that are collected each year from generous people like you, are used to help subsidize needy
families that want Catholic Education for their children but can’t afford tuition fees. Our tuition fees are $250.00 a
month for a single child and $360.00 for a family. Wanting to keep the tuition fees as low as possible, but yet remaining
consistent with our other Catholic Schools in the city, we rely on the tuition monies to pay for the capital and
operational costs in caring for our school. As a Catholic community we are very grateful to all those that help support
our school community in time, talent and treasure so the Catholic faith can be taught and spread in our community.
If you would like to give the gift of education for a family, please call me at the school: 250-563-5201
In gratitude,
Ms. Rebecca Gilbert, BA, BEd, MEd.
