For powerlines operating at 13.8 kV or less and having only one or two
poles near a pipeline, the minimum horizontal separation may be
reduced to 15 m or, for pipelines designated in the exception 10.3,(item
13 above), the minimum horizontal separation may be reduced to 4.5 m.
A9
Where pipeline and powerline corridors cross, the minimum horizontalseparation between any pipeline and the poles or structures of overhead
powerlines shall be 30 m for powerlines operating in excess of 13.8 kV.
A8
Where the pipeline and powerline corridors cross, the horizontal angle of
intersection between the pipeline and powerlines operating in excess of
13.8 kV should be between 45 to 135 degrees.
A7SAES-B-064,
Para. 10.5.2
Two pipelines may be located near one another provided that a minimum
clearance equal to the greater of one meter or twice the diameter of the
larger pipe is maintained between them.
SAES-B-064,
Para. 10.6
When a buried pipeline is installed through a river bottom, wadi, or other
places where water run-off occurs, concrete coated pipe in accordance
with (01-SAMSS-012) Submarine Pipe Weight Coating shall be used to
provide the required stability in case of floods.
SAES-L-450,
Para. 14.11
A6
Spacing of parallel buried or above-grade pipelines, every pipeline musthave a minimum clearance of 15 meters on one side, with the exceptions
of:
a) a pipeline crossings and tie-ins, or for short pipeline sections less than
20 m in length.
b) for pipelines designated in the exception to Item No. A12above, every
pipeline must have a minimum clearance of 4.5 m on one side for
maintenance vehicle access is not required.
A5
A4
The berm of the new pipeline shall not disturb the flexibility of adjacent
above ground pipelines and shall not cause damage to pipelines with
heat tracing such as sulfur pipelines.
(NOTE:A minimum clearance of 3 meters is recommended. )
A3
The minimum clearance between pipelines or between a pipeline and an
obstruction shall be as specified in Item No. A3, unless additional
clearance is specified on the construction drawings.

A1
If the pipeline crosses or comes within 50 meters of buried pipelines or is
within 50 m of other buried steel installations, the Cathodic Protection
Unit of CSD shall be contacted to determine if bonding stations are
needed.
A2
All bonding stations shall be completed and the line backfilled within the
time frame specified in (SAES-X-400) Cathodic Protections of BuriedPipelines. The as-built drawings shall indicate any buried installations
and bonding stations.

A11
All underground powerline cables and non-Saudi Aramco
communications cables crossing pipeline corridors, except as permitted
below, shall cross under pipes by means of a duct bank designed in
conformance with SAES-P-104.

A13The concrete duct bank shall be continuous and at the same elevation
across the entire width of the corridor.
A14
10.8 The minimum vertical clearance (measured from grade) of
overhead powerline conductors at pipeline crossings shall be 9.0 m for
powerlines operating at 230 kV or less, and 13.5 m for powerlines
operating at over 230 kV. For other powerline requirements, see SAES-
P-107.
SAES-B-064,
Para. 10.8
A15
For cases in which the powerline is parallel to the pipeline, the minimum
spacings between a pipeline and a parallel overhead powerline shall bemaintained as specified in SAES-B-064, Table 3.
Minimum Spacing Between Pipeline and Parallel

When the pipelines cross under roads or railroads through box culverts,
the minimum spacing between any two pipes shall be twice the diameter
of the larger pipe. The minimum spacing between any pipe and the
overhead or side portion of the culvert structure shall be 1.5 pipe
diameters, but in no case less than 1 m.
