The Body and Blood of Christ Faith has many important facets that are effective in our lives. Prayer and worship con-nect us to the God who creat-ed us and who daily gives us purpose and provides for us.

Times of community and fellowship unite us with our family in faith to realize that we are not alone on our journey of love with God. Outreach and charity put our faith into action so that we can be the hands and heart of Jesus in the world and pro-vide for the needs of others. Yet, at the heart of our faith, its essential foundation, is the gift of God himself to his people, the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the memorial of God’s great act of love for us, the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus. The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ made truly present so that we might be nourished to do the work of God in the world. The Eucharist is the source of our life as people of faith and that to which we return all that we have received in thanksgiving to God. Inspired by this Feast of Cor-pus Christi and as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! may our love for the Eucharist in-crease so that our faith may remain strong in the midst of change. Vacaon Bible School 2018

June 2529th

from 9:30 a.m. to Noon @ St. James the ApostleThis year we are offering a new Vacaon Bible School Catechesis of the Good Shepherd VBS

One mother described her experience with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as:“…a simple, synthesized, profound involvement with the Gospel and with the liturgical life of the Church.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was founded in the 50's by two Italian laywomen, one a scriptural scholar and one an

expert in Montessori educa%on. Together they conceived of a simple, a'rac%ve method for sharing the richness of the

Faith with children, who are uniquely capable of accep%ng the beauty of God's love. The program is presented in three

levels, and includes %me in the "Atrium," which is a quiet environment where children learn through tac%le play.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd emphasizes quiet contempla%on and imagine this "the enjoyment of God." The chil-

dren hear Bible stories and watch them acted out with simple materials; they learn songs and prayers, and are encour-

aged to play quietly with simple and meaningful objects. One mother explained that CGS "cracked the code" of the Mass

for her son, as he learned to become alert to the details of the liturgy: the significance of color, the names and purposes

of the various vessels and tools on the altar.” Source: National Catholic Register blog post by Simcha Fisher on April 17, 2014

It is an amazing approach to teaching the youngest among us to develop a personal relationship with God!

This VBS is for children aged 312 and will take place at St. James the Apostle, 4019 US 422, Pulaski, PA 16143.

(Take Route 422 towards Youngstown and St. James is located on the left. It is about a 12 minute ride from St. Camillus.)

Cost of VBS is canned food or $10 per child which will be donated to Lawrence County C.A.R.E.S. Any questions please call Cathy Frank at 724.652.9471 x25.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

One gets the impression there was always a lot of sharing, discussion and learning during the many meals Jesus and the disciples ate together. How does this compare to the meals in your home? Today’s gospel challenges us to make our meals more than physical functions and more a time for sharing. by Bud Ozar

ST VITUS NEWSSt. Vitus Food Program: In conjunction with the Pittsburgh Food Bank and Produce to People, St. Vitus Parish sponsors a communitywide food distribution every month in Fabbri Hall, St. Vitus School. We are blessed to be able to provide muchneeded food, including fresh produce, canned goods, meats and bakery items to over 600 families in need throughout our local region. Many of our recipients are elderly or handicapped and require assistance. We ask volunteers to help with setup, distribution and moving items to vehicles using wheeled carts that we provide. Please consider offering your time, once a month, to this most worthy cause. Contact the parish office (7246523422). Everyone is welcome and needed.

CORPUS CHRISTI

When we receive the Eucharist at Mass, we Catholics believe that we are receiving the Body and Blood of Christthe Real Presence. We take to heart the words of Jesus found in Mark 14:2224, “While they were eating, he took bread and said the blessing, took it and gave it to them, and said, ‘Take it; this is my body’. Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, ‘This is the blood of the covenant which will be shed for many’”. That same idea is expressed in Matthew 26:2628 and in Luke 22:1920. Jesus gave to us his own body and blood so that we can be reconciled to him on our own journey to heaven. We, sinners, need help; Jesus gave us the preeminent aid. Each time we received the Eucharist we are proclaiming to the world that we need Jesus, that Jesus means what he says in John 14:15, “If you love me you will keep my command-ments”. What are these commandments that he is referring to? The Bible, especially in the Old Testament, is full of rules and lawscheck out the books of Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Numbers. Jesus did say in Matthew 5:17 that he “did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it”. However, he goes on to say that the law can be summarized in a single phrase, “Love one another as I have loved you”. (See John 15:12) In Matthew 7:12 Jesus makes an even broader statement, “Do unto others whatever you would have them do unto you. This is the law and the prophets”. If we know Jesus, if we love Jesus, if we wor-ship Jesus, then we will make every effort to keep his commandments. We will consume his body and blood regularly, frequently, as we journey to heavenannouncing that we need his help. Although we are sinners and have sinned, God, in his unbounded mercy, has giv-en us the means to reconcile ourselves to him. A good habit to develop is to receive God in the Eucharist not only frequently, but also ea-gerly and enthusiastically.
