From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:This Sunday, August 15th, the Church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed
Virgin Mary into Heaven This Solemnity falls on a Sunday this year, so we are blessed that this Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics throughout the world might result in more people attending Mass
On this Solemnity of Jesus Christ’s Mother, let us pause to think about His Kingdom He has set the foundations He is the cornerstone But He has not yet finished building it up He is still extending its borders and gathering more and more people into His Kingdom And this work that He is doing is being done through His Body, the Church, through which more people are brought into communion with Christ so that they may follow Him and find the true meaning of their lives But what will the Church become when the years of building reach completion? The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary helps us to answer this question Christians have always seen the Blessed Virgin Mary as one of the images of the whole Church She is the Mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son, so we often refer to her as the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church Indeed, Mary said “Yes” to God at the Annunciation, conceiving of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1), and gave birth to Jesus at the first Christmas She took care of Him as He grew and accompanied Him as He fulfilled His mission Similarly, the Church, of which every Christian is a member, continually brings Christ into the world through the Church’s many works of charity and apostolates, especially through the Sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Holy Matrimony, Holy Orders, Confession, and Anointing of the Sick) With the Church’s teachings through Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments, the Church cares for and accompanies Her members as they grow to maturity and carry out their missions And so, as God assumed Mary into Heaven, body and soul, at the end of her earthly mission, so God will lift the whole Church into perfect communion with Himself in Heaven at the end of time (John 6) Mary’s Assumption, then, is God’s promise to us Every Christian who imitates Mary, the first and the perfect disciple of Christ, in her example of humility and fidelity to God’s will, can look with faith, hope and love, to the glories and joys of Heaven
Honoring Mary, Jesus Christ’s Mother, does not take away from Christ, but glorifies Him when we recognize the power of His grace at work through her and in her, as all generations will call her blessed (Luke 1) Jesus entrusted her to us, to help us and intercede for us (John 19) May we all thank God for the wonders that He has done for Mary, realizing that He wants to do wonderful things for us as well May we ask Jesus to give us the wisdom, courage and fortitude to speak about His Mother truly and confidently so that all people can get to know Jesus better by getting to know the person who knows Him the best, His Mom Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William

SAINT CLEMENT SCHOOL
GO MAKE DISCIPLES“How Should We Evangelize? Evangelization consists in
proclaiming Jesus Christ risen from the dead ‘by word and the testimony of life’ The two keys to evangelization, therefore, are these: to become holy and to talk to people about Jesus It is a simple formula but not an easy one For most of us, growth in holiness is a long, slow work-in-progress And it can often be very difficult to talk to people about Jesus, especially when we are afraid that our words will not be well received by the other But “perfect love casts out fear,” as St John teaches us (1 John 4:18) And we pray in the Psalms: “The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? (Ps 27:1) Therefore, we should take comfort and heed the words of our Lord, who says to his disciples: ‘Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent’ (Acts 27:24)” August 2021 Go Make Disciples Newsletter
Reflection: Make the decision to talk to at least one person about Jesus this week Before you do, ask God to give you the courage to do so, and also a listening heart in order to really hear the other person
CONSECRATION TO ST. JOSEPH & MOREOur Consecration to St. Joseph gathering concludes this week on
Tuesday, August 17, after the 8:15 Mass in the parish meeting room For those who would like an evening offering of this reflection and study, contact Bill Manthe soon Bishop Hying is planning to hold a diocesan-wide consecration ceremony and Mass on the Solemnity of All Saints, November 1
FARM WELL WISCONSINFarmers are the backbone of our economy, certainly here in the
dairy state and especially in southwest Wisconsin Farming brings with it many joys and successes, but also many challenges and frustrations that can affect one’s mental, physical and emotional wellbeing Farm Well Wisconsin partners with farmers and community members in southwest Wisconsin to develop and offer resources that support the health and wellbeing of farmers, farmworkers, and their families Whether you are a farmer or community member, to learn more or to get connected with services, go to: https://farmwellwiorg/
THE APOSTOLATE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIESThe Apostolate is always open to suggestions or ideas of how they
could better promote the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the life of the Church in our diocese This Summer, they are seeking parents of children with disabilities to provide feedback on their experiences, hopes, and challenges raising a child with a disability (physical, mental, developmental, or sensory) If you are willing to participate in a brief survey, phone call, or Zoom group conversation, please contact the Apostolate office Email: APD@MadisonDioceseorg or phone: 608-821-3050
FOOD PANTRY HELP NEEDEDEvery 3rd Thursday of the month, the LAC Food Pantry is open
from 10-11 AM It’s again St Clement Parish’s turn to care for patrons this Thursday, August 19 We need 4 volunteers from 9:45 to 11 on that day Contact Bill Manthe to volunteer at 723-4990 This is a good opportunity for high school students to get involved! Also, thank you to everyone who volunteers at the pantry when it is our turn to host on Monday and Thursday nights And a special thank you to Karen Kilcoyne who does the calling to arrange the volunteers we need when we are scheduled to work the pantry in the evening
FORMED PICK OF THE WEEKTHE SEARCH
This week watch Episode 3 of THE SEARCH that examines the question, “Why a God?” Throughout human history, people have looked outside themselves to find the answers to life’s questions Disbelief in God is a recent notion that many people have embraced In this episode, scientists from various fields of study will explain why it’s reasonable to believe in God’s existence and how it’s essential for a happy and fulfilling life To find THE SEARCH, simply log into FORMED and scroll down the homepage You can find this and much more at FORMEDorg
MDCCW BOX OF JOY SERVICE PROJECT – LOOKING AHEAD
St Clement Council of Catholic Women in conjunction with the Service Commission for the Madison Diocesan CCW, will continue the Boxes of Joy Project this Fall Last year, MDCCW sent 750 gift boxes to children throughout Latin American countries with help from CCWs from the Diocese of Madison We hope to surpass that goal this year This is a good time to start purchasing supplies for the boxes during back-to-school sales and end-of-the-Summer sales Further information may be found at the Boxes of Joy website; https://crosscatholicorg/box-of-joy
