TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

We owe today’s beautiful feast to a valiant woman who suffered a great deal to establish a feast out of her love for the Eucharist. Juliana was a nun in Belgium in the thirteenth century. She served in a hospital for lepers. She became convinced through her prayer that the liturgical year was incomplete because it had no feast for the Eucha-rist. Her efforts were not welcome, and a supervising priest sought to pun-ish her for promoting a feast that nobody wanted. He even had her accused of financial mismanagement and banished her from her convent. Shortly after she was exiled, the bish-op approved the feast. It quickly spread through Europe. In those days, people very seldom received Holy Communion, and so the processions through the streets with the eucharistic bread not only led to an awareness of Christ’s hunger to be with us, but pre-pared the way for a deeper desire to receive Christ’s Body and Blood in more frequent Communion. The feast grew rapidly, but Juliana disappeared into poverty and a hidden life. She ended her days as an anchoress, a woman living in seclusion in a room attached to a parish church. Imagine her delight at seeing us gathered at the table of the Lord on this day, aware of Christ’s presence in our midst, sharing fully in Christ’s Body and Blood. Our celebration today invests her struggle and sorrows with dignity and mean-ing. --James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Facilities Management Updates • Many routine maintenance and

special building and grounds pro-jects and are pending for this sum-mer. If anyone wishes to volunteer any time to assist, please contact Don Magoon.

• This month we have a Boy Scout Eagle Project that will paint “In” and “Out” arrows for each of the front parking lots. The project also encompasses painting “fire lane(s)” where nobody should park. These are both designed to improve safety for church and school families. Not parking in the fire lanes will enable EMS, Fire and other first responders the access they need in the event of an emergency. When we park in the fire lanes, those larger vehicles can-not get through.

• The parking lots were sealed and striped and cracks in the asphalt were repaired to the extent possible the week of June 17.

• Boy Scouts replaced the wooden edging around one of the play-ground areas with PVC pipe. This should last longer and do a better job containing stones without chance of splinters. They also paint-ed 5 bookcases for the school to sat-isfy BSA service hours.

• Bulletin boards throughout the school have been repaired and are in the process of being sanded smooth. We will attempt to seal and paint them as well. Alumni, Connor Heeden, and staff made these re-pairs. Our thanks to Connor.

• Two computers for church office personnel have been replaced.

• Plans are being made to install new tile floors over the old floors in the table/chair storage area and in the maintenance area.

• Plans are being finalized to replace old ceiling tiles with new dropped ceilings in the lower school hallway and in the storage room off the gym.

• Church carpets will be cleaned week of June 17.

• Please report any unsafe conditions, event setup requirements, or facility improvements to the Facilities Man-ager: [email protected]. Please put “Work Order” in the subject line of your email. Thank-you

Pro-Life Answers to False Pro-Choice Arguments (Part VII) "If abortion is outlawed, women would be forced to unsafe back-alley abortions" For years, the abortion industry has concocted statistics to frighten people into supporting their agenda. The fact is that every study ever conducted (including figures released by the pro-choice Alan Guttmacher Institute) proves that so-called "back-alley abor-tions" were extremely rare, prior to abortion being legalized in 1973. Moreover, the idea that women would be forced to unsafe "back-alley abor-tions" if abortion was again illegal, has now been discredited by an actual "test market", so to speak. For 44 years under Nazi and then Communist rule, abortions were legal in Poland. In 1993, the new freely elected Parliament passed a law for-bidding abortion. The media screamed: "You will not stop abor-tions; they will just go underground and women will be injured and die and there will be a flood of miscarriag-es" However, the law was passed and not only did abortions drop precipitously (from around 138,000 to 99 per an-num), but none of the ominous predic-tions of the pro-choice lobby material-ized. In fact, quite the reverse is true. Miscarriages dropped from around 59,076 in 1990 to 41,568 in 1999. Deaths due to pregnancy and birth dropped from 70 to 24 and neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births dropped from 19 to 9. Not only did none of the dire predic-tions materialize, but instead, Polish women are healthier and have fewer gynecological problems than when abortion was legal and common. So here we have a modern, western na-tion of 40 million people that decided to forbid abortion by law. The result shatters and completely destroys the long-standing pro-abortion argument about "back-alley" abortions. Pro-Life Articles

Pro-Life Articles
