Saint of the Week St. Isidore of Seville

Isidore was born in Seville around 560 into a noble family from Cartagena; his older brother Leander also became a saint. Educated in the monastic life, he

was bishop of Seville after his brother Leander and directed the diocese for thirty-six years. His ministry saw the conversion of the Arian Visigoths and the organization of the Spanish Church. He presided over several councils and wrote many works, including the Etymologies, an encyclopedia of the knowledge of his time. He died in 636 and was canonized in 1598.

He is depicted in episcopal vestments.

The name Isidore is from the Greek and means “gift of Isis.”

Please pray for the Church in our Diocese

Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere.

With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord.

This week we pray especially for:

Andrew Dushek of St. Therese Parish

of Rothschild, WI

Regency Year

Prayer Intention of the Week:

That the Church may continue to

REMBRANDT'S RAISING OF LAZARUS

"I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)

From Our Pastor

Gift Presentation: Would you consider carrying up the offertory gifts at Mass with your family, your spouse, or even by yourself? All you need to do is let the ushers know before Mass that you are willing to do it. It would be wonderful to see new faces presenting before the Lord our earthly gifts that become the Eucharist.

Sacraments Baptism - Parents requesting to have a child baptized are invited to call Father Berns directly at 715-384-9414. He will assist with any baptism preparation and scheduling a date.

Reconciliation - Celebrated on Saturdays from 4:30-5:15pm and upon request. Communal Penance Services are held during Advent and Lent.

First Eucharist and Confirmation - Ongoing catechesis is essential in the faith formation of the youth of Our Lady Peace Parish (OLP). Therefore, any child must be enrolled continually from the First Grade, in either Columbus Catholic Schools or OLP’s Religious Education Programs, to receive either the Sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation.

RCIA Christian Initiation of Adults - Anyone interested in joining the Catholic Church should contact Sister Virdean Meyer at 715-384-3044. Classes begin each Fall.

Marriage - Knowing how important it is to marry in the Church, we are happy to see weddings take place in our parish. Father Berns looks forward to meeting with engaged couples to assist them in marriage preparation. As this preparation takes time, couples are asked to contact Fr. Berns 8-12 months before the wedding.

Anointing of the Sick - If any parishioner is ill at home or going into the hospital and would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact Father Berns at 715-384-9414. A Mass of Healing with anointing is celebrated during the year.

New Parishioners - To join our community, please register at the Parish Office or call 715-384-9414 Ext. 2.

“Reading Signs from God”

Please join our dynamic men’s group Tuesday morning at 6:15 for another important session about discerning God's plan for us. This week we learn how to hear the voice of God in a world of noise and distractions.

In an ancient temple, a number of pigeons lived happily on roof top. When the renovation of the temple began for the annual temple feast the pigeons relocated themselves to a Church nearby. The existing pigeons in the Church accommodated the new comers very well. Christmas was nearing and the Church was given a facelift, All the pigeons had to move out and look for another place. They were fortunate to find a place in a Mosque nearby, The pigeons in the Mosque welcomed them happily. It was Ramadan time and the Mosque was repainted, All the pigeons now came to the same ancient temple.

One day the pigeons on top found some communal clashes below in a market square. The baby pigeon asked the mother pigeon "Who are these people? The mother replied; they are "Human beings". The baby asked, but why are they fighting with each other...? The mother said "These human beings going to temple are called 'Hindus' and the people going to Church are called 'Christians' and the people going to Mosque are called 'Muslims'. The Baby pigeon asked, "Why is it so? When we were in the Temple we were called Pigeons, when we were in the church we were called Pigeons and when we were in the Mosque, we were called Pigeons. Similarly they should be called just 'Human beings' wherever they go"? The mother Pigeon said, 'You and me and our Pigeon friends have experienced God and that's why we are living here in a highly elevated place peacefully. These people are yet to experience God. Hence they are living below us and fighting and killing each other.

THE HOLY FAMILY PRAYER ICON

“The future of the world and of the Church passes through the family,” observed St. John Paul II, whom Pope Francis called “the Pope of the Family.” Recognizing the vital role of families in the world, the Knights of

Columbus has dedicated its 17th Orderwide Prayer program to the Holy Family, with the intention of strengthening Catholic families and their prayer lives.

The Knights of Columbus is again hosting the Holy Family Prayer Icon. The image is a copy of the original Icon which features an etching of the Holy Family by the 18th century artist Giovanni Balestra. Fr. John Eisen Council will have the Icon in the Marshfield area from March 26th to April 1st.

CRS Rice Bowls

This is the Fifth Week of Lent. As we continue our journey of discovery and preparation for Easter, let us take a look at another aspect of resourcefulness when times are tough.

We encounter Dita in Ethiopia, and see how her newfound entrepreneurial skills are providing three meals a day for her children - even during a devastating drought. What skills have you discovered this Lent that can be put to good use in building God’s kingdom?

Visit crsricebowl.org for more information.

The LaCrosse Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW) will be having our annual collection (formally Low Sunday Collection) on April 22 and April 23 at all the Masses. House of Formation (vocations), RCIA & Faith conferences, Relevant Radio, Televised Mass, Project Milk and Natural Family planning are just a few of the projects that are funded with this collection. Thank you in advance for your donations.

Let us not forget that the Lord always watches over us with mercy; he always watches over us with mercy. Let us not be afraid of approaching him! He has a merciful heart! If we show him our inner wounds, our inner sins, he will always forgive us. It is pure mercy. Let us go to Jesus!

—Pope Francis

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Students at Columbus Catholic Middle School are encouraged to explore new things from opportunities in athletics and extra-curricular activities to course

selection. Did you know that each year, in addition to our core classes, they are offered exploratory course options. A few of those options include classes like micro-stem, Stop the Presses, and Calling all Gamers. Each quarter students are able to take one of those courses. Being able to explore different course options helps students to discover their areas of interest so when they enter high school they can be more focused on those areas.
