Welcome back to Term 2 and a special welcome to our new student and their family: Koleka Mataafa. ASSEMBLIES THIS TERM Week 7 Room 9 Week 8 Room 6 Week 9 Room 7 Week 10 Room 5 SCHOOL PRODUCTION Our school production this year is Alice In Wonderland and will take place at Waikowhai Intermediate on the following dates: Week 4 of Term 4 Wednesday 2nd November (EVENING PERFORMANCE) Thursday 3rd November (EVENING PERFORMANCE) Friday 4th November (DAYTIME PERFORMANCE) Our school productions are lots of fun and ALL students take part in the shows, so please put the above dates in your diary. Further information regarding tickets will be sent home next term. We will also be sending out a form within the next few weeks, to see if any parents are able to support us with making costumes and props. Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme We run this programme every two years and all teachers will be taking students through a series of lessons in the last three weeks of this term. A parent information meeting about the programme will be held tomorrow 15 th June in the hall from 2.30 – 3pm. Our school’s Police Education Officer, Cyrus Warwick-Ching, will lead the meeting. ‘STRIKE’ SHOW This outstanding percussion group will perform for our students at school on Tuesday 21 st June. The cost of the show is $5.00 per student. If you haven’t done so already please pay this to the class teacher as soon as possible. WIG WEDNESDAY On Wednesday 22 nd June we will hold a gold coin mufti and wig day to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation. Friends of the School The FOTs parent group will meet in the school staffroom tonight at 7.30pm. The main purpose of the meeting will be to look at ways to help with the school Art Festival in Term 3 and the school production in Term 4. We would love to see some new faces at this meeting so please come along if you can. COMMUNITY NEWS Congratulations to Michael W ood, our Board Chairperson, who has been selected as the Labour candidate for the Mt Roskill electorate. Kapahaka Group Performance As part of this year’s Matariki Kite Day celebrations, our Kapahaka Group will perform at the Domain at the top of Mt Roskill next Sunday 26 th June at 1.00pm. Thanks to Mrs Jones and Te Ao Frandi for training the group. We know you will all be outstanding! PUNCTUALITY There are a growing number of students arriving at school late. School starts promptly at 9.00am and students need to be here before the bell so that they can organise themselves for the day. As previously advised we are obliged to inform The Truancy Service if a pattern of lateness develops.

PUBLISHED WRITERS…By Room 4 Fantails are small birds and they have small wings with a long brown fan shaped tail. They love gardens. The fantail eat small bugs. Sometimes they enter houses in summer. Piwakawaka is the Maori name for the fantail. BY ATREYU MCSHEFFREY

A pukeko is a New Zealand native bird. A pukeko has long legs on its body. They have colourful feathers on their body. Pukeko has long claws. They have have shiny eyes and a red beak.. Sometimes they have red eyes. Pukeko live in swamps and ponds. They eat vegetables, duck eggs, spiders, young birds worms, frogs, fish and insects. The pukeko can fly but mostly pukeko walk. JUNIOR TRIP Our junior students visited the Maritime Museum last week as part of their Science Inquiry about Floating and Sinking. They took

part in experiments, a treasure hunt and explored the museum. Rooms 4 and 5 were also able to take a boat ride around the harbour!

 

Soccer zones Three soccer teams represented our school in the B Grade at the recent zone competition. The teams did extremely well with the top team winning their grade, and the other two teams coming 4th and 5th. A big thank you to Dave McKee and Mrs Jones for coaching the teams.
