Once again we are at the pinnacle of the calendar year for RMI New Delhi. This year marks the 2nd edition of RMI, New Delhi Graduation and Fashion Show. Looking back to the first edition where we had 42 graduating students, today we have 68 graduating students. We have grown from strength to strength, from year to year. This growth is made possible because of each of you, our esteemed students, and your parents, who have given Raffles this opportunity to do what we do best - to bring out the best in you.

Raffles believes that success is not a coincidence but it is by design. Therefore with our 12-strong International faculty we strive to always give you the best. Today, when you walk out of Raffles you know you have achieved another milestone in your life. Equipped with the knowledge you have gained here in Raffles, I am sure you will have the confidence to take on the challenges that will come your way in the future. It is therefore my sincere hope that each and everyone of you will go on to achieve more milestones and great success in your life.

It is our privilege and pleasure to present our second batch of graduates from Raffles, Delhi. This year we have 25 students who have graduated with a Bachelors degree and 43 students who have completed their Advance Diploma. Congratulations! Education is not just about imparting knowledge, it is also about growing values that will become an integral part of our graduates’ life. It is about preparing our graduates for a successful career and a bright future.This is not just a relationship between the students and the College. It involves a collaboration amongst students, parents, industry and the College, to ensure the success of our graduates. In this respect, we hope that our graduates have had a fruitful, fulfilling and happy learning experience with Raffles, Delhi, that has prepared them well as they commence their journey in the working world as budding designers. To our graduating batch of 2013, rest assured that all the hard work, long hours, sweat and tears have not been wasted. The Germans have a saying “All beginnings are difficult”. The students featured in the following pages are at one very special moment in their lives; where what awaits them and what they leave behind are equally important and shaping for their lives.One becomes a designer and remains a designer for their lifetime. I have never heard anybody say ‘I used to be a designer’, or ‘I was a designer a long time ago’, as this is something that, once is chosen, remains with you. We become designers for good. We have a particular way of looking at the world and giving answers to its problems, a way to talk and a way to see.We are called to reformulate problems and give holistic answers to them, to design thoughts, experience, places, memory and improve life quality.I would like to thank our students for their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment, and congratulate them on reaching this important milestone in their lives, which will surely lay the first steps to wonderful, rewarding and lifelong careers. This is truly an immense achievement and I look forward to seeing their success in contributing to good design in our society. The course gives students the creative and technical knowledge and skills they need to become professionals in the design industry. Using an integrated approach that combines creativity and applied technical proficiency, it takes students from design concepts and processes through to final production.


Gursheen WadhwaInterior Design

My project is a Jaipur inspired Pavilion House.The inspirations have been derived from the various elements of Jaipur like its rich history, the forts, the Havelis, the authentic colors of the region, the markets and even the streets. My design concept derives its inspiration from this. I looked at these forts as a combination of several layers and textures. From one corner to another, one can see several layers of openings, windows, doors. These add so much depth to the design. Every space in these forts is a picturesque sight for the beautiful textures, colors and intricacy that it embraces. The play of layers and textures is one of the most important elements that has helped design the Pavilion House as it was the most integral characteristic of the havelis I was fortunate enough to visit.


Viboli HessoInterior Design

“Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears, even if the thread of their discourse is secret, their rules are absurd, their perspective deceitful, and everything conceals something else” Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities, p.44.The idea was to propose a space of manifestation that provides a rational concept of ephemeral and permanent, and the intention for my project was to create the notion of story-telling; a start, a body and an end. Thus, I came to propose an ‘ephemeral art exhibition’ taking inspiration from the characteristics of the cities Sophronia and Armilla from Calvino’s imagery.The spinal cord is the pathway in the human body and the art exhibition consists of a ‘walking pathway’ that connects and give sense to the spaces proposed.The built solution is as well inspired in yacht poles in the harbor, that provide structure for the walking pathway. The idea of creating this exhibition was to enable its structure to be the main artefact of the display while the exhibition holds the attributes of a carnival; arrives, displays and vacates.


Megha GuptaInterior Design

This project on daycare has been chosen and designed by getting inspired from the city of Eusapia, a story from the book “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino.The story of Eusapia explains the city in two parts where there is one for the living that has an identical copy of it mirrored underground for the dead: both connected by a mysterious membrane, both performing the same activities. The project is about designing two spaces that hold the same purpose but are of a different built nature. With the concepts relating to ephemeral and permanent, the space can be permanent and the activities performed can solve the nature of ephemeral.This has been achieved by designing a space for kids as well as for the senior citizens. This recreational centre where both can come, stay, relax, enjoy, learn and work in the same space, runs on social causes while aiming at the betterment of society, taking care of health, sanitation, education and entertainment facilities. The project tries to build up a relationship between both this age groups taking care of their private and social spaces.


Amrita ChhabraInterior Design

My project takes inspiration from Ersilia and Octavia as they appear in the ‘Invisible Cities’ by Italo Calvino published in 1972: the book explores through imagination and fascination the world through explorer Marco polo’s eye.

I want to relate to the concept of permanent nature of Indian culture and the ephemeral nature of water to create the concept for the whole project.

I am renovating Ram Goppal Poddar Haveli and making a Health and Healing club for people between 20-60. This health and healing club will cater their needs of relaxing in a completely serene environment, rejuvenating their senses and pamper them in a set of peaceful and detoxifying spaces.This Club will provide world class facilities like steam, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool, spa sessions and yoga classes, a book café, art gallery, accomodation and open terraces for lounging.The ephemeral nature of water is placed as a key feature in the project and used as a significant feature in various spaces like reception, cafeteria, and swimming pool.


Charu GuptaInterior Design

This is a double deck train which will journey from New Delhi to Kashmir. The train will contain a brief history about Kashmir, its beauty, tradition, culture and people. It will have ten coaches and four of them will be sleepers, one will have the history of Kashmir in the shape of a library, one will display the political and and geographic history of Kashmir, one will have brief of beauty of Kashmir including adventurous sports areas, and the last will have tradition, culture, festivals, arts and crafts of Kashmir with a shop. The remaining two wagons will have restaurants serving international cuisine and Kashmiri cuisine. The museum will have new and interactive technologies. This is the first time in India that something like this is proposed and which makes the idea very unique.


Harjot GillInterior Design

Located in Connaught Place, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station is the most chaotic metro stations of all. It has four metro lines on two different levels with many elevators and staircases leading to these lines. The metro station has a beautiful, green park above it, called the Central Park. To reach this park, one has to pass through long entry/ exit tunnels of the metro station which head towards the market and across the road and reach back to the park. The main aim of the project was to convert the metro station and the Central Park above it into one big space rather than two different places as they now are. Many new introductions like a waterfall, a shopping centre, a restaurant and a lounge were made. The renovated plan turned the metro station into a beautiful example of landscape architecture.


Udaai Veer SinghInterior Design

Inspired by the book Inviible cities by Italo Calvino, the story of Esmeralda opened abundant directions to my major studio project. There, whichever form of route one took, the person reached the same destination. This impression was related to God and how different religions pray using a different approach, but at the end the motive of inner peace remains common. The purpose of designing such a space was that aspects from each religion would be used in a very subtle manner and not involving any particular god or statue. Since the site chosen for my project was a tomb, it shows how the dead are honored using means of architecture and design. The phases of life, death and rebirth have been used in the project. The design of each space would take one through the transiting experience of each phase.


Aanchal Sachdeva Interior Design

The proposed project wants to revitalise the Kiran Theatre designed by Le Corbusier in Chandigarh. With renovating the theatre the whole square will be given a theatrical look with all different activities related to the theatre happening in that area. The main structure of the theatre will be like the crown to the whole square and all the other elements in the square like the amphitheatre, café and the park will help in representing the area further. The theatre which has lost its identity will get back its charm and will represent the whole city. Not just the theatre people would specially visit the square to enjoy the live band performances happening in the café, to see what’s happening in the pavilions in the park and to enjoy the scenic beauty of the whole area which is well landscaped with waterfalls, water bodies, flower beds and fountains. It will become a landmark for the city projecting the multiple passions of dancing, singing, music and drama of human experience.


Stuti Gawri Interior Design

Major Studio Project has played a vital role in influencing me as a person and has helped me evolve as an interior designer. The subject made me realize the importance of design requirements of a restaurant, human factors, materials, lighting, etc. The Restaurant, NAZARIA has been inspired by Italo Calvino’s book, The invisible Cities that is based on the dichotomy of ephemeral and permanent. Despina and Fedora were the two cities that inspired me to take complex subjects of perspective and perception as the base of my project. Set in the surroundings of 13th century Feroz Shah tomb in Hauz Khas Village, the restaurant retains the warmth of the place and has a rustic charm. The modern interiors contrast with the old world charm of the monument and creates a balance between modern and contemporary.Various sections of the tomb have been used to create spaces for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner that provide the user with different perspective views of the space. Metal and glass ceiling featuring an Indian motif mosaic has been used to create a balance of light and shadow at different times of the day.


Twinkle JainInterior Design

“And that is not all: the network of routes is not arranged on one level, but follows instead an up-and-down course of steps, landings, cambered bridges, hanging streets”.(Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities, p.79)White Nature is a resort designed for couples, who are in search of an isolated space and who desire to spend quality time with their partners. It is an insertion on two mountains and lake in between. To propose a different relation of the human body with the nature is the major goal. The elements of nature: water, air and sun have been explored in this project. Flowing water, hanging villas, walking on water, walking through trees and dwelling inside the mountain are some concepts that have been used to celebrate the ephemerality of nature. Each basic regular activity defines human life: the project was developed considering the importance of eating, bathing, sleeping, relaxing and fun by specifying spaces and giving a different feel to those activities.The decision of using curves, round shapes and white color has been made in order to hold one language that stands out among the vegetation.


Neha AgarwalInterior Design

The core concept of the project is the Qualitative Development of a Space, as Peter Zumthor in his book ‘Atmospheres’ puts it. For him, the importance of a residential unit lays on the infinite possibilities this private space could be enriched with, and he outlines various aspects like light, objects, air, material and sound as several aspects of architectural and spatial design which contribute to creating a said atmosphere.The proposed house is constructed on top of a mountain valley which overlooks another valley on the opposite side and in-between these two mountain slopes there flows a narrow steam of water, while vertically there is this immense void of nothingness. The house has been designed to celebrate this void, this has been achieved by creating a strong relationship with the slope it has been constructed on.As the inhabitants navigate the three main volumes and the slanted roof that form the project they continuously weave in and out and refer to water, light, nature: interior and exterior.


Parul JainInterior Design

The proposed project aims to create an exhibition space at New Delhi Railway Station to evidence the creation of memories.

The concept for designing and redesigning of the exhibition and station has been developed by the nature of ephemeral and permanent inspired by the stories from Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. The transformation of the station involves a series of layered interventions based on re-use, restoration and the creation of new buildings, to first create the base line where to design the exhibition. A highly expressive and interactive main square was designed as the main feature of the project where raised bridges lead and an overall understanding of the place happens. By using the right blend of colour, texture, material and lighting techniques, the station becomes an iconic structure for the city not only for the travellers but also for artist and designers. This project presents an opportunity to gain an overall perspective of design elements and the needs of users relevant to the design environment.


Harleen Kaur Interior Design

The meditation center is a place where a person connects their soul to god. This would be a place away from the materialistic world, letting people be with themselves.The basic concept of the meditation center is that both the interiors and exteriors will go hand in hand. Whatever the person sees in the interiors the same impression is carried in the exteriors. Water and Nature is one of the main components which represent peace. So in designing the meditation center I have combined the nature and water to create a relaxing atmosphere.The interiors of the meditation center will be white as ‘white symbolizes peace’.


Vinay LuthraFashion Design

The Inspiration revolves around sand formations and textures of mud. Sand formations are also a type of texture that is formed on a huge field due to various climatic factors like wind, water and others, sometimes it is even formed due to destruction by humans. The difference between sand formations and mud is just that textures of mud can be formed in a small area within meters to huge fields and sand formations are always formed on a large scale and runs in miles.Sand dunes are the main topic from where this collection draws inspiration, may them be crescent dunes, star dunes, linear or ripple dunes, dome dunes and parabolic dunes.


SanchiDandonaFashion Design

Under the theme ‘Mud’, various aspects were discovered and one of these aspects holds the project together, that is ‘Pottery’. Coming from a long history of existence, pottery nowadays has a completely new face. The focus of this new identity is drawn on the process of making pottery, the different forms and shapes it exists in and the meaning it holds for the potter, along with the traditional art of hand painting, especially in Native American Indian pottery. From famous artists like Meena Vohra to the local potter from an urban village of Delhi – valuable insights to the world of pottery have been provided, which have meticulously guided this inimitable expedition into the realm of ‘mud art’.


Archit AgarwalFashion Design

As a student in the final year of college, I got the opportunity to express my thoughts and emotions through the medium of clothes that I design in any manner possible.As our main topic was “Roads”, we got to choose our own sub-topics to make a collection. I looked at the physical appearances of a road, and saw that it basically comprises two main constituents, which are stone and mortar. If we were to compare our lives with a road, then we would notice that just as a road is made up of stones snuggly fitted to each other using mortar. In this sense, we also require two basic things for a long and peaceful life which are Love and Discipline.Thus as a designer I wanted to create a collection showing a contrast between love and discipline, through the use of hand spray dyeing technique, giving my garments ombre shades using organics dyes in warm colours such as peach, beige and cream to represent love and strong colours such as black, grey and white to represent discipline. I also used fabrics such as lace, silk georgette and chiffon to illustrate love and compassion in my garments.


Megha KhannaFashion Design

Aimed at ‘design to express’ my work exhibits characters of juxtaposition and paradoxity, hence creating projects that explore logical reasoning while questioning the obvious. I aim at studying the ideas of extremity and desire to seek balance between the two. I like to only author the beginning of a narrative and leave out some elements for the viewer to interpret or create their own personal story out of it.

The proposed collection ‘Love manifests Hate’, explores the co-existence of love and hate. How both foster each other and thus their dependency exploring the incompetency of love leading to jealousy, insecurity, hatred, self-pity and the feeling of being deprived. While on the other hand the abundance of love, hope and knowledge fostering happiness and success.


Amita SharmaFashion Design

Before accessing a video named “A Road in India” (1938), for me roads was a vague word. For every individual it beholds a different meaning. Roads are a way to connect people and make them reach their destination. The confusion prevails throughout the journey though: are we going on the right path or are we taking a wrong turn? The directions chosen, are they taking us to the right place or are we falsely hoping to arrive safely to a destination? Be it on the road or in our personal lives, life and roads are a sought of illusion; we presume it to be simple and straight but it brings us to a whole new situation when we actually try to solve the puzzle. Interpreting the dilemma of confusion I narrowed down my topic to something that is just a mere perception and certainly doesn’t exist. I narrowed down my research to three explanatory perspectives stated as illusion, uncertainty and endless needs of life and then merging them with roads. I researched about how the endless needs, shortcuts and wrong turns tend to ruin our lives and how reality of life is just a mere concept.


Vidhi AnandFashion Design

Roads were the theme given to us, with a motive to take personal inspiration from it and develop a creative idea.

My topic for the major studio project is highly inspired from shadows on the roads, depicting the various emotions the roads express in different conditions.

I have tried to give eyes to the roads and tried to observe every moment and emotion of these roads through its eyes in their everyday life.

Like when shadows are portrayed on them, sensing the deep feelings of the roads towards these shadows and how they carry on in life with the help of wind and light.

And in their discovery of darkness and how they lead back to lightness and how the environment suddenly starts changing with the first rays of sunshine bound on the roads.


Arshia SinghFashion Design

If asked to define the word ‘Roads’, everyone would define it differently. Roads can be seen and described from many different perspectives, but as for me I chose to research about the people who live their life on roads.

Like it’s said, ‘All roads lead home’. The question is, do they? What if ‘roads’ are only home for some people?

Nomads are always on the move. They spend their entire life traveling from one place to the other. Their reasons for traveling could be different but roads are their homes. This perspective of roads intrigued me to research further about people who are nomadic by choice or who do it under the circumstances. So, I chose a small settlement called the Banjara’s & the Kalbeliya’s from Rajasthan, India and juxtaposed it with the infamous Hippies.


Aditi AroraFashion Design

The theme given to us was ‘roads’. The first thing that came to our mind when we thought about roads, we wrote down our thoughts and from there I went on to connecting roads with life and paths. I found two poems related to this theme and they inspired me to further my research in this direction. These poems written by two different authors and are not of recent times, they are:The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost (1916)Beyond The Bend in the Road by Fernando Pessoa (1914)Both the poems are based on roads, but if we dig deeper, we will notice that along with roads the poets are also talking about life. In Robert Frost’s poem, he is talking about making a choice or taking a firm decision. He wants us to weight all the pros and cons before taking any step, because you never know which decision could be the difference-making one! Blindly following what others have done would reflect our sheep mentality, so basically he wants us to break that trail and think different. Once a decision is made the option should not exist, because one way leads to the other and we might never get the chance to come back and avail that option. We should be so sure of our decision that we never regret it.


Sakshi AstirFashion Design

Roads can be seen only as an infrastructural requirement – a means to an end or they can be seen as related to life.

I related roads as an infrastructural requirement and not to its significance to emotions. That is where my idea for futuristic roads came from.The garments that I designed were inspired by the great engineering marvels of the world flyovers. The curves of the roads and the different elevations inspired me. I imagined what symmetry and beauty these flyovers would have in the coming years. Flyovers are not just functional in clearing congestion from a particular point; they also represent fluidity of movement despite their structured appearance. I believe my collection would inspire and create a visual of the future for the viewer.


Bhavna Arora Fashion Marketing

The goal of the Major Studio Project was to understand the concept of running a new business and its significance in the market. The project allowed me to research, conceptualize and design the concept in understanding of market requirements. A business plan was drawn for the creation of a fashion brand; Manufacture and Retail of vintage fashion Apparel and Accessories; named Strikoza.

In Sanskrit ‘Stri’ means women and ‘Koza’ means treasure.

Strikoza intended to develop a viable, sustainable fashion line based on reuse, recycle, restyle and redesign of the idle vintage/ old fabrics or apparels and had a pure beginning to retain the classic fabrics from every corner of India and revamp the sources into modern nuances.


Naina PrakashVisual Communication

I was approached by my client, Mrs. Juhi S. Mathur to design a book containing recipes that belong to her mother in law. Her mother in law has been a home science teacher at Wellham’s School in Dehradun for over 30 years now, therefore there was quite a collection of recipes - around 150 of them ranging from soups, salads, starters, mains and desserts. There were recipes of Indian, Chinese, French and Continental cuisines. Some of these were hand written, some had been typed on a type writer, some even belonging to her mother written in hindi. So old, the paper was coming apart. It was an amazing collection of beautiful and precious transcripts, which was like a family legacy for them.

I quickly realized the value of the project. It wasn’t merely a book of recipes, it was a way to preserve the years and years of her hard work and dedication, and of course her love for cooking.

I decided to go for water color based illustrations – they are beautiful yet classic and personal – so I felt they compliemented the idea behind the book perfectly. The typography and color palette was also chosen keeping these things in mind. Working on this project taught me a lot, but I think the most important was how design is not just used to make things pretty but it can also evoke strong emotion, and touch people.

Nehchal NarulaInterior Design

The idea was to design an isolation center in one of the streets of the Hauz Khas Village. I tried to do something different and design a small world for dancers that would keep the dancers isolated from the outside world for a specific time period. We had to choose a main area that was to be designed in detail. I chose the performance area, which was proposed in the center of the street in such a way that it overlooked a small garden and a beautiful lake.

I chose the concept of discontinuity and I think, discontinuity can be seen by creating an illusion of solids/ voids or negative and positive spaces, which can be created by using glass walls/ panels wherever possible. According to me, discontinuity means a disturbance or a change with the ongoing pattern or action or design. I have combined two dance styles, which will also interfere and create discontinuity.


Karan BansaiInterior Design

The project was to design a lamp taking inspiration from an image. After analysing my

image, I decided to take ‘warriors’ as my main inspiration

for the design of the lamp. The lamp has elements from the steel jacket cover which a warrior wear,

and the chains and the circular patterns on the cover. I designed a table lamp made of wood

and paper, featuring circle cut outs covered with white translucent paper for light to pass through

it. The main motive of this lamp is to create an environment that would make one think about

the life of a warrior and how he feels wearing that jacket cover.


Nischay AroraInterior Design

I have designed a sportswear shop with a special area for customised shoes. I took inspiration from the graffiti wall from where I reached the idea of customised shoes. The shop has different sections for customised shoes, where customised chairs are also placed. Taking inspiration from the graffiti wall, the shoes also offered would have some kind of graffiti pattern on them. The shop has multi-coloured walls and only white lights are used all over the area to balance the colours. It offers sportswear collection and shows for both boys and girls. Clothes for only specific sports are offered in this shop like swimming, tennis and golf . The space is divided in such a way that the sportswear collection is just on the ground floor where as there is a big section for customised shoes on the first floor.


Dhriti ModiInterior Design

I have made a chair, keeping in mind the physical pain that handicapped Frida Kahlo

all her life, whilst also keeping in mind her free-spirited nature and her will to free herself through her passion for painting. I have tried

to put in colors taking inspiration from Mexican culture, the way Frida Kahlo did. My chair is a

hanging chair, hung on the ceiling with the help of a ceiling hook. It has cloth on top of the seat

made of Croatia flowers so as to relate it to Frida’s fondness towards the flora and fauna. The nails sticking underneath are a reminder

of her constant physical pain.

She fights the pain and uses her wings to fly.


Sakshi SondhiInterior Design

The basic concept of the design is to bring the intricate detail to our lamp.We have taken inspiration from an intricate design and created our lamp giving different layers to it to make it more complex yet classy.We have used halogens lights.In each piece we have put halogens light separately to give more brightness to it.


Vansh AroraInterior Design

Inspiration for this design has been taken from Frank Gehry’s work.The mind-mapping exercise helped me developing various inspirational words from which I chose ‘delicate’, and implemented it by using butter paper for building this lamp, which is meant to be delicate to the eyes.

Galvanized iron wire is used for the outer structure of the lamp, and a dimmer light, adjustable according to the mood, in order to determine the ambience of the place.


Gulneet KaurInterior Design

The idea was to build a pavillion using balsa wood with the concept pictures at the backdrop and rolling pieces of paper to form tiny orbs stuck together inside the frame forming a web-like structure that relates to the net woven inside a willow hoop of a dream catcher.


Preeti KapurInterior Design

The design of the lamp is a reflection of music.It has been made using gold tinted metallic cans, which have been cut and moulded to give the desired shape. The curves and continuity represent the true meaning of music and flow.The yellow coloured led strip light used in the inside of the lamp is reflected on the shiny surface as well as on the mirror hanging beneath it. This hanging lamp has been designed for the purpose of ambient lighting.


Ria GulatiInterior Design

This piece is designed as an art gallery, made to feel the

abstract nature by embracing its structure. The

structural design is eminently efficient, and even though

the material used is paper, it is effective in connecting the

world of interior and exterior as expressed in the prototype.

The design seeks to heighten the relationship between the

built form and the natural features of site by highlighting a pure geometric box drawing the

landscape into the interior.


Sabby AhujaInterior Design

Pero, brand name of Designer Aneeth Arora, was chosen for designing a Boutique Store. For this project, I

proposed a store having different sections for men, women, kids and furnishing.

Also I had given small lounging and personalised custom boutique area. All

the interiors are designed after a thorough study about the designer and the kind of collection she designs. I kept a very

neutral colour scheme comprising greys and browns and adding different elements

such as ropes, threads, cotton and a staircase which acts as a feature element

with hanging mannequins over the front façade.


Rifsha AishathInterior Design

This a residential space designed for a novelist who is single and want to spend her time writing. While designing this I have given importance to bring the kind of environment she wants and the kind of space where a writer could get inspired. To bring that calm and soothing feel to the space I have played with colors: monochrome and accent colors on little things like the cushions, which give a more welcoming feeling to the space. I have played with floor levels to create places.

In this apartment there are 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, laundry, a balcony, dining space, kitchen and living room. There is a separate space as a study that has a library and a writing area.


Vishnupriya MundraInterior Design

An isolation centre, which provides halfway home facility for ex-offenders. Assisting the prisoners during their transformation from prison life to society would help in lowering the rate of recidivism. Services like psychological counseling, vocational skills training programme: carpentry, agriculture etc are provided. The idea of having a library connecting the reception and housing facilitates education. It has been designed into two levels, ground floor as the library and first floor as a chill-out study space. The design is dynamic, using different shapes of triangles at each level. The use of glass increases the interior exterior relationship of the designed space.


Aman BhayanaInterior Design

The coffee shop is designed to be a lively and spirited café placed in Khan Market, where people have a good time and feel

relaxed. The inspiration for this project comes from a picture of a setting sun on

a beach with a lot of colorful elements, which sets the mood and color palette for this design. The colors are carefully used

as they make the environment vibrant and energetic, along with some basic earthy

shades that make it subtle, calm and balance out the colorful elements. It also has a chocolate bar as a unique feature

found rarely in Delhi. The whole idea is to create an exuberant ambience for people

to regain their enthusiasm.


Sahil SuriInterior Design

The concept of this lamp was based on the word “Ray”. This was a group project of 2 students. The material of construction given was tin cans, and our concept was to show rays of light through the gaps in the lamp.

Firstly we constructed a base on which the tin material would rest. Secondly we cut the tin material in a pyramid form which is tied with wires on the base. These were tied on to the base by punching a hole through the tin material. The next step was to install the electric wires and light. Finally our goal was achieved when the whole construction and working of the lamp was finished and the reflection of rays of light was coming throughout the lamp.

The module Design Studio-2 provides us designers with the knowledge and skills to conceptualize various design solutions related to a commercial project (in this case a restaurant). For this project we were given the layout of one of the first floor shops at Khan Market as a base. For this purpose I have redesigned this space for a fine dining sea-food restaurant. The theme is simple yet classy as this design caters to families as well as business clients. One of the main concepts that I have implied are the communal eating tables that allows sets of people to be sitting next to each other. These tables are higher than usual and are complemented with beautiful pendant lights floating above them.


Hargun AnandInterior Design

The streetscape of the Hauz Khas village is a great place to design an Isolation Center. My

concept was transformation, and I chose to design this streetscape into a dance therapy

centre. Today’s time and date brings with it a lot of stress tension and competition. The 21st century has so much to offer that some people get lost in the hustle bustle and decision making, eventually

having trouble discovering themselves. One of the many solutions is dance therapy, together

with yoga and meditation. It is a holistic approach towards achieving harmony and balance of the

body, mind and soul.


Harnam KaurInterior Design

The lamp is inspired from the art of paper folding that is origami and the word petrol which gave the

right direction and a lead to the project.Taking the word volatile from petrol, the concept to show evaporation came into existence which

made the project stand out.The lamp loses density as it rises.

The lamp stands on a rubber wood base of 300X300X12mm. The paper is supported on the

galvanized iron wires. The type of light used in the lamp is LED in warm

white tone.

Meerika DhawanFashion Design

The collection is inspired by Rajasthan folk dance juxtaposition with ancient

Rome. The research shows the blend of draping technique and richness that

has been taken from the inspiration and the heaviness shown by the metal

embellishments. The elements have been interpreted into the silhouette,

details, dyeing, embroidery, and colors to justify the final looks. The fabric

used in the collection is cotton glace, viscose georgette, velvet, cambric

cotton and the color scheme applied in the collection includes purple (nobility) and blue (freedom) taken from Ancient Rome and black, green, and gray from

Rajasthan folk dance.


Vrinda MongaFashion Design

This particular collection at the initial stage was inspired by the manmade form of UV (Ultra Violet) lighting. As I dug deeper into that, I found that some living beings had God’s gift of UV vision, so I narrowed my research to fish which is one of them. I further analysed the use of their UV vision, which is what they mainly use it to differentiate one breed from the other, to identify their own or to attract the opposite sex.


Pavitra Chundawat Fashion Design

History, culture, tradition, all this and more is the melting pot of India, from which

emerged an inspiration for my collection, ‘A rose in a lotus pond.’ The theme British

Raj in India is what enticed me to create an amalgamation of two completely

diverse cultures but are put together in a simple yet sophisticated manner.

The designs are vintage with a modern twist. The fabrics are stiff and controlled to reveal the touch of the British power,

juxtaposed to the flowing chiffon and delicate embellishments that epitomizes

the enigma that is the Indian essence. The collection shows the simplicity and

easiness of the Indian culture with a blend of rigidity and stringency that the

englishmen expressed.


Prerna SawhneyFashion Design

I have always been keen in non-fictional books. The inspiration in all my

collection till date has been historical events, identities, past,etc.

For this collection I have been inspired by two different historic and societal

events; the Durga Puja which is a celebration that provides a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Bengal and

very powerful deity in our Hindu society, and The Holocaust as a depiction of

pain, sadness, struggle, and suffering, mental as well as physical abuse, sadistic, inhuman act, starvation, malnourishment and the need of

freedom. Durga and The Holocaust were merged to develop a new concept

as a hybrid of them, an amalgamation of brutalities and celebrations.


Ravi K TirkeyFashion Design

The inspiration for the fall collection 2013/14 is ’Lateral Inversion’ or ‘Mirrow Writing’, further displayed as ‘Dyslexia’ which means a developmental reading disorder. Dyslexia is a learning disability and the concept of the same has been used to create this collection. The patterns and the embroidery work showcased on the garments are derived from the probe done through juxtaposing Mirror Writing and Dyslexia.

The display has been designed hypothetically for a yoga capsule collection of Adidas.The collection’s inspiration came from Alpana and Neeraj colours that they use in their collections.The colours “white and purple”, were most suitable as the purple comes from their collection and the colour white signifies peace and positive energy.


Saloni Sayai Fashion Marketing and Management

In my two years of advanced diploma in Raffles, I have had the opportunity to learn from the

best. All the modules offered have always been very interesting to study. I have done a lot many

projects, but one of my favorite is from the module “Fashion Co-ordination & Promotion”. In this project we had to create a hypothetical fashion show for my brand Charlotte. In brief,

the collection started from an afternoon look & went onto evening wear. The afternoon look was inspired by the colors of our national bird

“Peacock” and the evening collection was inspired from a “Chess Board”. The colors

chosen were simple, subtle and the color black has always been regal and added a sense of royalty to the whole collection. The collection

was focused for women who believe in creating their own style; they are chic and always want to

be a cut above the others.


Sanjukta PanjwaniFashion Marketing and Management

The module required us to develop an online website on a fictitious brand using software’s like Dreamweaver and Photoshop. The main agenda of the module was to understand the knowledge and skills of creating a website and how industry people cater to their target audience. We developed the goals and strategies of the website by organizing and navigating information. This helped us to understand as to how brands sell their design and features while creating the website. This also developed skills to bring alignment in style, layout, color, palette, images and compressions. The brand I created was a vintage brand with its retail presence in Khan Market/ New Delhi and sells vintage apparel and accessories. To support it I developed an online website for the same brand targeting a new segment of audience.


Kavleen BainsVisual Communication

This project was for my Independent research class. We had to pick a social issue, research it extensively and find a way to spread awareness through various mediums: I decided to create a handbook and a set of awareness posters against child trafficking since I had recently learned about how common it was in India. Child trafficking is a crime against humanity. It involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving children through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploiting them. I would love one day to work for a non-profit organization and be a part of something huge!


Jaspreet Singh MohindraVisual Communication

The design represents the humorous side of a person. It is a visual representation of a famous Punjabi singer ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’, and its objective is to enlighten the amusing side and not to offend anyone in any means. The character designed is a honey bee wearing a turban and the hands characterize Yo Yo action. If one may look closely, the right hand thumb of the character is shaped as ‘J’ (as the name of the designer starts with ‘J’). The character was published into numerous channels such as Bollywood movie, magazine, newspaper and websites.


Rohit KothariProduct Design

An iPod dock inspired by the 1950’s and 60’s and specifically designed for seniors of 65 years and above.It has aspects of both modern and vintage design: it is minimalist and clean, features a clock, and a radio. The material used in building this product is wood. As there is use of no chemical, color or filler, it is intentionally kept natural to give it a vintage sense. The design combines the present and the past in a way that helps the dock maintain the vintage beauty and the technology used by the current generation.

A flask designed for students who live alone and handle plastic milk pouches every morning.

Flasso was designed using sustainable materials to enhance the quality of the product.

It is easy to use, light weight and ready to manufacture. Flasso is one product used for

different purposes at the same time: pouring, heating, shaking, storing!!

A different approach towards kitchen utensils design by finding a small problem that is left

unnoticed but when worked upon, it makes a difference.


Rael ArmstrongMultimedia Design

This project means that for 100 day one picks a subject and follows up until the 100th day. The subject that I picked was a circle. If you look around you can spot a circle in every corner of the room. It may be big, it may be small but you don’t pay attention to it and say “Oh! That’s a circle there.” In this project I wanted to capture circles that are in our surroundings and compile those together, to remind everyone about what we have but don’t pay attention to.


RiaChatterjee Multimedia Design

The video is a comedy drama where the executioner is about to guillotine a culprit who has killed his wife. Just before the execution takes place, the axe breaks and hits the executioner while the stick hits the culprit, and so the ghost of the dead wife appears and laughs at the situation. To make this short movie clip actors were chosen and performed in front of the green screen, which was shot with the help of Stop Motion. Then these clips were taken to After Effects. Sounds, dialogues and effects were given in that software to create a final outcome.
