Open Innovation: Harvard Medical School

q Grand Challenge: ~ $200M

q Goal: Generate research topic in Type I diabetes

q  Initially invitation email went to ~40,000 Harvard community in 2010

q Reached to more than 250,000 invitees

q Results: - 150 research ideas generated

- 12 winners - Today 7 teams of multidisciplinary researchers

are working on the resulting potential breakthrough ideas.
