Sophia “Redentora” Navedo, of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc., has received the news that she will be commissioned as an active duty officer for the United States Army as 2nd Lieutenant in May 2012. She recently received notification from the Army that she will be assigned to Military Intelligence. Upon graduation Navedo is to report to Ft. Huachuca in Arizona.

Sophia is one of the founders of the Alpha Tau Chapter at Georgia Southern University in the spring of 2010. She believes that the support her Hermanas and family have provided her have helped her achieve this prestigious position. “I could not have done this without the support of my line sisters, family, and my second family: Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc.; especially strong, empowered women like my Membership Process Coordinator (MPC), Wendy “Amaryllis” Toribio-Torres, who is a proud Army wife and supporter; my Assistant MPC Jessica “Fanatica” Puentes, who is strong enough to make her own

path, and Major Ariel “Pikaki” Batungbacal, who sets the standard for the type of officer I want to be,” stated Navedo. Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha is proud of her accomplishments and will continue to support her efforts wherever her military path takes her.
