ADVENT/CHRISTMAS WORSHIP SCHEDULE

Have you ever asked yourself, “Does my financial support of Divine Redeemer really make a difference, or am I simply supporting hum-drum operations and in-frastructure?” That’s a fair question. A very good question as a matter of fact! The short answer is: You ARE making a difference in things eternal. Yes, your generous fi-nancial support IS making a difference. A HUGE difference. Your support of God’s work at Divine Redeemer (through your prayers, your time, your talents, and yes, your money) has made an eternal difference in many lives.Your generous support has…SUPPORTED families experiencing termi-nal illnesses and in financial crisis.BROUGHT the Lord’s Supper to many people who are sick and homebound.HELD the hand of someone at life’s end in a hospice center or hospital.BLESSED the marital union of many cou-ples starting a life together.POURED water over the head of dozens of babies receiving Holy Baptism.COMFORTED family members as they stood next to the casket of a loved one.COUNSELED AND SAVED the marriages of couples who were ready to divorce.HELPED single parents as they balance work, home, and child rearing.RESOURCED those recently divorced or experiencing grief of any sort.VISITED an entire year’s worth of mem-bers and friends in the hospital.ENCOURAGED elderly members who are forgotten in nursing homes.EDUCATED hundreds of children in our tremendous elementary school.PARTNERED with our Lutheran High School Association and LCL.PROVIDED scholarships through the Christian Athletic Scholarship program.PRAYED for newly confirmed eighth grad-ers in freshly pressed gowns.INSURED that the “next generation” is be-

ing raised as Christian boys & girls.SENT thousands of shoe boxes, filled with toys, all over the world at Christmas.EQUIPPED missionaries through our Lu-theran Church-Missouri Synod.ASSISTED the needy in our community with food, clothing, and money.GAVE an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on for those in need of a friend.SPOKE God’s Law to the unrepentant and the Gospel to those in need of healing.ESTABLISHED an Endowment Fund to give DR a bright financial future.REACHED OUT globally to missions far beyond our own country.WITNESSED our faith in our community through a variety of outreach efforts.SERVED the community with regular, fo-cused Servant Saturdays.ORGANIZED home fellowship groups to study God’s Word informally.TAUGHT Sunday School, Bible Classes, Bethel, and Christian Apologetics.SANG songs, provided music, and en-hanced worship with instruments.ENABLED the con-tinuing ministry to men, women, se-niors, and youth.CELEBRATED im-portant milestones in the life of our church and school.REPAIRED AND RENOVATED God’s property, His buildings, and school.PAID DOWN our debt and freed up money for other worthwhile causes.INSPIRED others with powerful sermons, uplifting worship, and prayers.FED spiritually hungry Christians with the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.FOUND new ways to communicate with one another and our community.MANAGED our precious resources in a responsible, transparent manner.STOOD before classrooms filled with the bright smiling faces of young pupils.

VOLUNTEERED countless hours to ad-vance God’s Kingdom at DR. Your generous, regular, and faithful fi-nancial support provides much more than just church services on Sunday. In ways that you never imagined, each dollar you contribute makes a big difference in the lives of people both near and far. You ARE making a big difference in things eternal. And 2015 is bright with even more wonderful blessings from God. My practice has not been to publicly share emails, notes, or cards from folks expressing appreciation for the mission

and ministry of Divine Redeemer. Maybe I should reconsider that, because I get so many positive and affirming notes from ap-preciative families both within and outside of our community of faith. What we do together is more than a church service. It’s about changing lives for the better through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your continued sup-port in 2014 and in what I believe will be a banner year in 2015. Making a difference in things eternal (with you),

Pastor Jeff Schubert

Does My Support REALLY Make a Difference? Continued

On Sunday, November 1st, Rev. Micah Wildauer and his family visited Divine Re-deemer. At each service, he had the op-portunity to share what he’s been doing in preparation to be a career missionary, along with future plans. As Micah continues to prepare for his service to God and His people in Togo, West Africa, please continue to lift him and his family in prayer. Pray that Micah would be-come well versed in the French language, so that communication is without barriers. Pray also that he would be able to raise the needed funds to fully sustain him, and his family, while covering any other expenses for his five years in the field. And, of course,

pray that the Holy Spirit would work in such a way that many more would be added to the family of God through the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the meantime, if you would like to keep up-to-date on Micah and his journey, feel free to check out his blog at www.wildauers-gototogo.blogspot.com. And don’t forget…you can use the attached envelope to help support Micah or any other ministry here at Divine Redeemer.

I doubt that Mary had a reference guide or resources at her fingers tips such as What to Expect When You Are Expecting, after she was told by the angel Gabriel, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:30a-33. Perhaps if she had, the an-nouncement of We’re Expect-ing! might have had a differ-ent meaning for Mary. Join us for Midweek Advent Worship services featuring the theme WE’RE EXPECTING!December 3: A Question of PaternityDecember 10: Preparing for ArrivalDecember 17: Sending Out Announcements Sunday Advent Worship services will feature A Candle Lighting Ceremony for Advent. All this helps us to prepare for our Lord’s birth! We hope you will join us.

A special thanks goes out to our Grief-Share, DivorceCare, and Single & Parenting leadership teams! We have been greatly blessed with teams of caring, compassion-ate, and dedicated people who spent count-less hours praying, preparing, and working together since the beginning of September – all in order to minister effectively to others who have experienced separation, divorce, the loss of a loved one, or are facing the day to day challenges of being a single parent. Thanks again! Because of these support groups, many people have been able to ex-perience ongoing healing, while growing as God’s children.• 2014 Fall GriefShare Team: Doris Egan, Don & Diane Henckel, Pete & Lisa Schrauf-nagel, Mary Kuehl, & Tricia Peck

• 2014 Fall DivorceCare Team: Charles Lu-ebke, Michelle Miller, Carson Cantwell, Sarah Toshner, and Patti Sobchak.• 2014 Fall Single & Parenting Team: Doug Mueller, Jean Melzer, Corinne Merten, Therese Marie, Claire Moline, and Shelley Wenzelburger We also want to thank Charles Luebke and Christine Catalano for hosting our “Surviving the Holidays” sessions for DivorceCare and GriefShare. These were great additions to what we are already doing. As we continue to plan for the future, look for our next round of GriefShare, Divorce-Care, and Single & Parenting in the spring. And if you are interested in joining one of the leadership teams, feel free to call or email Pastor Kurt. [email protected]

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.” ~ Matthew 5:13 On Saturday, December 6th, the Outreach Team and Ministry to Men Team will be joining together for our Salt of the Earth community outreach event. However, they can’t do it alone. We need your help to hand out 10 lb bags of rock salt to our neighbors to help them prepare for the winter months; and while we do it, we want to get the word out about the Living Word who “became flesh and dwelt among us.” (John 1) Plan to join us for this event which will be held in the afternoon (following Breakfast with the King). The plan is to meet in the school lobby, and then head over to one of our local fast food restaurants and hand out the salt while inviting people to our Annual Christmas Concert. Look for more details on when we plan to meet, and plan on joining us as we put into practice what it means to be Salt of the Earth.

Men’s Retreat 2015 The men of our congregation have been invited to be participants in the 15th annual Men’s Retreat at the Holiday Inn in Manitowoc on February 20-22, 2015. The retreat is planned by 3 congregations in the South Wis-consin District of our LCMS. The 3 churches are Our Redeemer in Wauwatosa, First Immanuel in Cedarburg, and Divine Redeemer in Hartland. The theme for this year’s retreat is, “The Samson Syndrome.” The life of Samson has a lot to say to men living in today’s culture. Samson was hand picked by God to lead his peo-ple in a revolt against the hated Philistines. Instead of leading his people, Samson was a selfish playboy who squandered his talents. Samson did what the people in his day did. God intended Samson (and His followers today) to elevate their mindset from the ways of the world and not follow what everyone else was doing. The author of the book, ”The Samson Syndrome”, lists twelve tendencies that led to Samson’s downfall and are still around today in our culture. At the retreat you will look at these tendencies and the problems they bring to men in our culture today. You will receive spe-cific, positive suggestions on how to overcome each tendency and learn how be faithful followers of the Lord. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNT! See the registration forms at the Welcome Centers in the Narthex and the Cafeteria. Contact Jim Berg at 414-462-5871 with any questions.

Apple Pie Update While there are many folks to thank for this year’s apple pie fundraiser, we mainly want to THANK YOU. We did indeed make 1507 pies. You might have heard that we only had orders for just under 1400 pies. We actually have sold 1438 pies to date. There are 56 pies set aside for the school to hand out as a gift when new families come to visit our school. These 56 pies have been purchased by an anonymous donor for the school at cost as well as 13 other pies that have gone out as a thank you to a few gener-ous folks who have helped reduce our cost in making the pies. So, really all 1507 pies have been bought. Not all of our costs have come in yet but, as of this date the pie sale has generated over $10 each in profit. We anticipate (after all bills have been paid) having raised over $16,000 dollars to help purchase the school jump mat and monies to be put toward the missions that were chosen at the beginning of this fiscal year. Was it a success? YES! We truly feel we will make a difference for the seven missions. Thank you for all of your orders and for all those helped on the pie making day and the week before. It was a success because of all of you!

The mission of Divine Redeemer Lutheran School in partnership with parents is...

providing all students with a highquality, Christ-centered education while nurturing and equipping them to meet life’s challenges and opportunities as

faithful servants of Jesus Christ.

There probably is no better way to view the splendor of Christmas but through the excitement of children at Christmastime. Stu-dents of Divine Redeemer Lutheran School focus on the magnitude of our Lord’s birth through study, projects, song and more. Whether a child is two years old in the Eaglet class or an eighth grader in one of Divine Re-deemer’s challenging classes, students expe-rience the true meaning of Christmas daily in preparation for Christmas. Students are given the opportunity to share the giving of the season through a food drive, special chapel services, classroom Christmas parties, early childhood Christmas programs and an inspiring School Christmas Concert. This year’s School Christmas Program includes inspirational songs from Divine Redeemer’s choirs (5K – eighth grade), the Spirit Singers, handbells, drum line, school bands, and more! Everyone is welcome to this FREE event that is held in Divine Re-deemer’s gymnasium on Thursday, Decem-ber 18 at 7 PM. Space is limited, so come early to get your seat! The early childhood Christmas programs

are a great way to see and hear the littlest stu-dents of Divine Redeemer, witness their love for the baby Jesus. Something so ordinary as a shoebox can accomplish the eternal when it is packed with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and God’s love. Powered by prayers, it can help lead children and families to faith in Christ, inspire pastors, plant and grow churches, and encourage disciples in some of the most unreached

places in the world. It all starts when people decide to bless a child overseas through Operation Christmas Child. Individuals and families decide whether they will pack a shoebox for a boy or a girl and then look for gifts appropriate for a specific age range. Prayerful shoppers search for items to delight a child: a toy car or a jump rope, a slinky or a doll. They look for practical things like pencils and paper, and necessary items such as a toothbrush and toothpaste. Whether toys, school supplies, or hygiene items, the giver seeks to pack their shoebox with as much fun and blessing as it will hold. Thanks especially to everyone at Divine Redeemer who made it possible for another great year. Divine Redeemer is one of the largest packing parties and collection sites in the US. While this ar-ticle’s deadline was just prior to the packing party on November 22, hopefully we will have hit the 10,000 mark this year. (We were just short of it last year.) May God’s blessings be with you all who have kept this mission going at DR and for sharing the love of Jesus Christ to millions of children around the world. Special thank you to Dennis and Terry Williams for all of their time and effort making this a phenomenal outreach program here at Divine Redeemer.
