The Ascension of the Lord (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection
After his triumph over death, Jesus ascends to heaven and takes his place at the right hand of the Father. His ascension fills the world with joy. He goes, as he had announced, to prepare a place for us. Before ascending, however, he has instructed us: “You are witnesses of these things” (Lk 24:48). He has also promised to send the Holy Spirit, “the power from on high” (Lk 24:49), so that we may carry out our task to spread the Good News of salvation to all. In the first reading we hear how the apostles are told that Jesus will return in the same manner they have seen him go up. While we await his glorious return, let us fulfill his command.

La Ascensión del Señor (Ciclo C)
Reflexión Dominical Luego de su triunfo sobre la muerte, Jesús asciende al cielo
y se sienta a la derecha del Padre. Su ascensión llena al mundo de alegría. Se va, como había anunciado, a prepararnos un lugar. Pero antes de ascender nos recuerda: “Ustedes son testigos de esto” (Lc 24,48). También nos promete enviar el Espíritu Santo, “la fuerza de lo alto” (Lc 24,49), para que podamos realizar nuestra tarea de llevar la Buena Noticia de la salvación a todo el mundo. En la primera lectura escuchamos que se anuncia a los apóstoles que el Señor volverá de la misma forma en que le han visto marcharse. Mientras esperamos su venida gloriosa, cumplamos su mandato.

Not an End but a Beginning The Ascension is not a celebration of a story’s ending, but rather the
official start of a period for sowing, for hope and for joy; one in which
restfulness and a lost gaze come to an end. Today we are invited to go out
into the field like the sower in the parable, knowing that we go out to sow
the seed that the Lord has already planted in our heart. There is no time to
lose. A dry and thirsty land awaits the miracle of being made fruitful in love
and in hope. Jesus does not abandon us; instead, His presence becomes
nourishment and joy so that we may fulfill the mission He entrusted to us.
In Christus Vivit, Pope Francis presents us with these words: “The Lord is
calling us to enkindle stars in the night of other young people. … to look to
the true stars, all those varied signs He gives us to guide our way, and to
imitate the farmer who watches the stars before going out to plough his
field.… Christ himself is our great light of hope and our guide in the night,
for He is the “bright morning star” (Rev 22:16)”. With your time, your talent
and your money, may we continue enkindling stars together, so that no
one will suffer the sadness of thinking that God does not accompany us.

inauguración oficial de un tiempo de siembra, de esperanza y de alegría,
donde se termina la quietud y la mirada perdida. Hoy estamos invitados
a lanzarnos al campo como el sembrador de la parábola, sabiendo que
salimos solo a sembrar la semilla que el Señor ya sembró en nuestro
corazón. No hay tiempo que perder; una tierra árida y sedienta espera
abierta el milagro de ser fecundada en el amor y en la esperanza. Hoy
Jesús no nos abandona, sino que Su presencia se hace alimento y gozo
para que podamos cumplir la misión encomendada.
En Christus Vivit el Papa Francisco nos regala estas palabras: “El Señor
nos llama a encender estrellas en la noche de otros…, nos invita a mirar
los verdaderos astros, esos signos tan variados que Él nos da para que
no nos quedemos quietos, sino que imitemos al sembrador que miraba
las estrellas para poder arar el campo…Cristo mismo es para nosotros la
gran luz de esperanza y de guía en nuestra noche, porque Él es «la
estrella radiante de la mañana» (Ap 22,16).” Que con tu tiempo, tu
talento y tu dinero podamos seguir encendiendo estrellas juntos para
que nadie quede sin ser rescatado de la tristeza de creer que Dios no
está con nosotros.

Meet the NewSaints/Conozca Nuevos Santos ST. FRANCIS REGIS CLET (1748-1820) — French
missionary and martyr. Tenth of fifteen children in a pious family of farmers, Francis studied at the Jesuit Royal College at Grenoble. He joined the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) in Lyons, France, and was ordained in 1773. Francis was Professor of moral theology at the Vincentian seminary in Annecy, and nicknamed “the walking library” due to his encyclopedic knowledge. His community was disbanded, and their house destroyed during the French Revolution. Francis went as a missionary to China in 1791 and was assigned to Kiang-si, the only European in the area; in 28 years of work, he never mastered the language.
In 1811 government anti–Christian persecutions intensified; the missionaries were accused of inciting rebellion, and had to pursue their work while on the run, often hiding in
the mountains. Eventually Francis was betrayed by a Christian schoolmaster whose behavior he had tried to correct. Force-marched hundreds of miles in chains to trial he was found guilty of deceiving the Chinese people by preaching Christianity. He was slowly strangled to death in February 1820. He was canonized in 2000.

There is a striking absence in the text of the ‘Lord’s
Prayer’…. A word is missing. Everyone think: what is
missing from the ‘Lord’s Prayer’? …. One word which in
our times — perhaps always — everyone holds in great
consideration… the word ‘I’ is missing. ‘I’ is never said.
Jesus teaches us to pray with ‘You’ on our lips, because
Christian prayer is a dialogue: ‘blessed
be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done’.
Not my name, my kingdom, my will. Not I, it is no good. And then it moves
on to ‘we’. The entire second part of the ‘Our Father’ uses the first person
plural... In Christian prayer, no one asks for bread for themselves: … it is
asked for all.

Hay una ausencia impresionante en el texto del Padre nuestro…Falta
una palabra…¿qué falta en el Padre nuestro?... Una palabra por la que en
nuestros tiempos —pero quizás siempre—, todos tienen una gran
estima…:falta la palabra «yo». «Yo» no se dice nunca. Jesús nos enseña a
rezar, teniendo en nuestros labios sobre todo el «Tú», porque la oración
cristiana es diálogo: «santificado sea tu nombre, venga a nosotros tu reino,
hágase tu voluntad».
No mi nombre, mi reino, mi voluntad. Yo no, no va. Y luego pasa al
«nosotros». Toda la segunda parte del Padre nuestro se declina en la
primera persona plural…Porque no hay espacio para el individualismo en
el diálogo con Dios.
