Hey there Southwest!

What a year we have had and I am so thankful I got to be a part of it as your

District Bulletin Editor. I had such an amazing board to work with and I had

a great time doing it. I truly believe that being in this posi-tion made me feel more engaged and connected with clubs

across the district. I would like to thank Katie for giving me the opportunity to serve the district this year and being a

constant inspiration to me. I would also like to thank Taylor for putting on such an amazing District Convention where

I could see all of your shining faces and for all of you who came and participated. Despite nature fighting us on every

turn, we still managed to have a great time in service, fel-lowship, and leadership. Finally I would like to congratulate

and introduce your 2015-2016 Southwest District Bulletin Editor: Banna Tesfay! Banna is so passionate, honest, and tal-

ented. I have complete faith that she will make an amazing Bulletin Editor and I am so excited to work with her in the

coming year!

Keep Shining , Ava Red

A WORD FROM YOUR BULLETIN EDITOR

“I took back more knowledge of leadership within the club for sure!” U of A Circle K mem-ber Michael Zimmerman says on what he took back from DCON. “I also brought home a greater love for CKI in general! Right when I got back I immediately looked into getting a CKI Week started in April with our club and I talked about the Eliminate Project with club

DCONFor those of you who didn’t know, the Southwest District CKI held it’s 63rd District Convention on February 27th at the Albuquerque Marri-ott Pyramid North! Over 50 members from clubs across the Southwest to celebrate a year of service, reunite, and elect a new district board!

“For me, the best thing about DCON was getting a chance to connect with my CKI

club and other clubs in the district,” says UNM Circle K member Valarie Sheffey. “The convention really opened my eyes to how

much more CKI is. [It] added even more purpose to the service we do at UNM, be-

cause it connected it to something bigger.”

members. I think I just have a greater appreciation for every-thing that CKI does as a whole and I want to share that with all of my club’s members. “

Hello Southwest District!!

And just like that, the CKI year is over. So much was accom-plished! We performed over 5483 hours and had over 474 projects. We increased member-ship and participation at district events. This kind of growth comes from amazing clubs with dedi-cated members and the need to serve. You all sac-rifice so much of your time to help your commu-nities and the people around you. It never ceases to amazing me how dedicated you all are. I cannot thank you all enough.

My board was filled with amazing leaders who worked so hard to make our district run smoothly and to improve. The support of administrators, as-sistant admins, other Kiwanians, our Trustee Mike, and international helped us every step of the way. Thank you all so much.

Big congratulations to the new district board. Get ready for one of the busiest and most rewarding years of your life!

Yours in service, leadership, and fellowship,

Katie Merrill CKI SWD Governor 2014-2015

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 2015

EXPLORE. ENGAGE. EVOLVE.

What is Leadership Academy? CKI Leadership Academy (LA) is an investment in the mem-bers of CKI. The six-day event is intense and focuses leadership based on servant leadership, which requires leaders to put the needs of others first, and to realize that no matter whether or not you have a title, there is always a need for service to one another and to the world. This program takes members of CKI through an adventure, starting with the CKI amazing race and ending with a plan in place to serve. The most unique part of the program—and what sets it apart from others—is that stu-dents and facilitators have an opportunity to do a service proj-ect during the program.

”At first I thought people didn’t tell you what happened at Leadership Academy because it is a mystery to try to get you to go,” says LA graduate Ava Red. “I thought when they said ‘LA changed my life’ it was just talking about your CKI life. But after I came back, I realized it wasn’t just about CKI and that people don’t tell you what happens at LA because there sim-ply are no words for how unique and personal it is.”

Leadership Academy takes place Sunday, July 26, through Friday, July 31 at the Waycross Camp and

Conference Center in Morgantown, Indiana.
