ACTIVITIES
2016-17
1) Digital India –
To propagate sound interest and computer literacy to the housekeeping and security staff,
we began this initiative of Digital India.
Students In charge – 7
Man-hours spent per month – 80 hours.
Problems identified – The audience is not aware of the technological developments
which can simplify their day to day activities.
Method Used – The procedures undertaken were one on one interaction of the audience
with the team members. Steps were first displayed on the projector and it was followed
up by each team member being stationed at each computer to help the audience. The
audience was taught on how to create a Gmail account, online shipping via flipkart,
rail/bus booking, how to make online bills payment etc.
Project Outcome – The main motive of making the audience aware and self dependent
on using technology in day to day life was achieved.
2) Shiksha Vikas –
With the sole purpose of helping the underprivileged children, deprived of proper
educational facilities and to enhance their learning process, we identified eight schools
this year in and around Nasik.
Shiksha Vikas is now being carried out in the following schools –
Schools in rural areas –
i) Rajewadi School
Students In charge – 7
Man-hours spent per month – 80 hours
Problems identified – The school lacks a proper infrastructure. It has only two
classrooms. Students especially girls are very shy. Parents also do not encourage
students to go for higher education. Majority of girls are getting married at an
early age.
Method Used – Basics of Mathematics and English are taught to the students.
Brainstorming sessions are carried out to increase the participation among the
students. Students are made aware of the different career options.
Project Outcome – Students are now able to introduce themselves in English.
They are more open and enthusiastically participate in discussions. Students are
clearer with the mathematical concepts. They also have better career goals.
ii) Amboligaon School
Students In charge – 7
Man-hours spent per month – 80 hours
Problems identified – The facilities provided by the schools are not hygienic.
Senior students are not aware of different concepts in Mathematics and Science.
The girls are very shy and do not interact at all. The students tend to leave their
academic career once they pass out from this school.
Method used – Basics of Mathematics and Science is taught to the students.
Drawing competitions were conducted to bring out the creative side of the
students. Teaching was done by showing videos, conducting classroom games to
make the sessions more interesting for the students.
Project Outcome – Students are now able to introduce themselves in English.
There is an improvement in their vocabulary. Students now want to go for higher
studies once they pass out from the school. Students have opened up and are more
active now.
iii) Vare School
Students In charge – 7
Man-hours spent per month – 80 hours
Problems Identified – Students are not able to communicate in any other
language apart from Marathi. Students do not have a proper exposure to the real
world scenarios. Students are not given proper career guidance.
Method used – Students made aware of various fields of career activities.
Students were engaged through different outdoor games, embroidery, paintings
etc.
Project Outcome – Students have more clarity on their career options. Girls are
now actively taking part in all the activities. There is also clear improvement in
their understanding of different subjects.
iv) Ambegaon School
Students In charge – 7
Man-hours spent per month – 80 hours
Problems Identified – Students are not able to communicate well in English.
Students are not exposed to the real world scenarios. Students are very shy and do
not interact actively.
Method used - Students are taught basic English Grammar, Mathematics and
Science. Different outdoor activities are carried out to engage the students and
make them more open.
Project Outcome – Students have a better understanding of the different subjects.
They are more confident in communicating in English now.

i) Eklavya Tribal School, Peth Road
Students In charge – 7
Man-hours spent per month – 80 hours
Problems Identified - Students are not aware of different concepts in
Mathematics and Science. The students are not exposed to real world scenarios.
Method Used – Students are made aware of the real world scenarios through
videos and discussions. Different classroom games are conducted to improve the
vocabulary of the students.
Project outcome – Students have a better understanding of their surroundings
now. They are clearer with their concepts in Mathematics and Science. Students
look more confident now.
ii) Nutan Prathamik Vidyamandir, Ambad
Students In charge – 8
Man-hours spent per month – 100 hours
Problems Identified - Students are not able to communicate in any other
language apart from Marathi. Students are very shy and do not interact actively.
The facilities provided are also not hygienic.
Method Used - Basics of Mathematics and Science is taught to the students.
Drawing competitions were conducted to keep the students interested and active.
The teaching approach was to make the session more interactive.
Project Outcome - Students are now able to introduce themselves in English.
There is an improvement in their vocabulary. Students now want to go for higher
studies once they pass out from the school. Students have opened up and are more
active now.
iii) Morwadi School
Students In charge – 12
Man-hours spent per month– 120 hours
Problems Identified - Students are not able to communicate in any other
language apart from Marathi. Students are very shy and do not interact actively.
Students do not have proper career guidance.
Method Used – Students were taught basic Grammar, simple spellings and were
taught how to form sentences.
Project Outcome – Students are now able to introduce themselves in few lines.
There is an improvement in vocabulary.
iv) Nashik Municipal Corporation Girls School, Pathardhi
Students In charge – 12
Man-hours spent per month – 120 hours
Problems identified – There is no proper sanitation facility. There is a drinking
water problem. The students are weak in English and Mathematics.
Method used – Students were taught basic concepts in English, Mathematics and
computers. They were made aware about women sanitation and women safety.
Project Outcome – Students are now more enthusiastic in studying. There is an
improvement in their vocabulary. Girls are now aware about the safety issues.
3) Aadivasi Prashikshan Kendra
Young adults from tribal villages are preparing to enhance their aptitude skills in order to
face the competitive examinations. So as to provide privilege to such students of Aadivasi
Prashikshan Kendra where girls and boys are preparing for the Police Constable Exam,
SIOM students train them in learning aptitude skills and basic English for strengthening
the concepts which will prove fruitful in their exams.

Man-hours spent per month – 50 hours
Problems Identified – Lack of basic knowledge in Mathematics and logical reasoning.
Students are not able to communicate in English. Students are very shy.
Method used – Teaching basic Grammar and tricks to solve Mathematics, logical
reasoning MCQs. They have been taught to speak boldly and confidently.
Project Outcome – Students are able to solve problems more efficiently and are looking
more confident.
4) Matoshree Vridhashram
With the fading of joint family culture in India and several other factors like financial
independency of elderly, deteriorating health, lack of companionship, insecurity etc.
senior citizens are forced to stay in old age homes. SIOM students visit Matoshree
Vridhashram to spend some valuable time with the senior citizens to bring happiness in
their life for all day along.

Problems Identified - There is a feeling of loneliness among the senior citizens. The
facilities are unhygienic. There is a lack of timely health check up.
Method Used – Students spend time with the senior citizens by talking to them,
conducting games and small activities to engage them. Profiling of the residents was also
carried out.
Project Outcome – Improved facilities by providing the senior citizens with clothes and
blankets.
5) Project Asmi
Students In charge – 15
Man-hours spent per month – 250 hours
Summary - To help the girls of tribal area to get awareness of hygiene practices and
usage of sanitary napkins. For this purpose, SIOM has collaborated with the NGO Dang
Seva Mandal.
The initiation of the project took place a year ago to reduce the dropout rate of girls in
tribal schools due to menstruation unawareness and lack of hygiene practices. We
designed a supply chain to provide sanitary napkins to those girls minimal cost. This
includes make or buy decisions for sanitary napkins, supplier selection, cost analysis and
other operation management practice. With the help of these, we successfully
implemented pilot run of the project for 2 to 3 months. Now to make those girls and
women of tribal areas self sufficient, our further course of action is to seek manufacturing
feasibility and set up production unit for bio degradable sanitary napkins.
6) Siddhivinayak Trust for Special Children
Siddhivinayak schhol has been putting efforts for mentally challenged and disabled kids.
SIOM students spend their time playing with the kids, reciting poems and singing songs.

Problems Identified – Low retention power, hyper active minds and highly unbalanced
temper.
Method Used – Students are engaged through painting, music, art and craft, clay
modeling , photo frame making, envelope making etc.
Project Outcome – Students are connecting well with the group, mixing easily with each
other and are more skilled now.
7) Prabodhini
The first institute for the cause of mentally challenged in Northern Maharashtra.
Prabodhini has been putting their nonstop efforts for the education, training and
rehabilitation of these special children. Spandan team is closely associated with this trust
and is working with great zeal along with them.

Problems Identified – Lack of awareness and accessibility of Prabodhini products in the
market.
Method Used – Visiting a lot many companies in and around Nashik to spread the
awareness of the Prabodhini products.
Project Outcome – Couple of companies have agreed to become permanent customers
and many others are in the pipeline stage.
8) Relief Material Collection Drive
Relief material collection drive was organized by Symbiosis Institute of Operations
Management in association with Goonj foundation to support the relief victims. An
awareness campaign cum collection drive has been conducted where a team of thirty
students in a group of four each went to residential areas, corporate and schools to spread
awareness and collect non-monetary items for reuse.
9) Ban Plastic Drive –
The Spandan Committee participated in a ban plastic campaign in association with
Manav Uthaan Manch at ramkund, Panchavati. The committee visited many schools in
Nashik to spread the harmful effects of using plastic and has also motivated many
students to take part in the campaign.
10) Street Improvement Project
Students In charge – 5
Man-hours spent per month – 40 hours
Problems Identified – Uneven vehicle parking, water stagnation, random road dividers,
open man holes, non functioning traffic lights are few of the problems identified.
Project Outcome - The project is still in process.
