CCP SUMMER SHOW: TICKETS ON SALE NOW! The Christ Church Players' TENTH
annual summer show, ON THE AIR, is
coming your way! Mark your calendar
for Saturday, August 24, 2019, at
7:00pm and join the CCPs for a 1940's
radio theatre show. You're the live studio
audience as our host wrangles everything
from overbaked prima donnas, to blue-

mavens from the Beauty Barn.
Soaring 1940's classics and old-time radio plays (complete with sound
effects) will transport you back to the time when radio was king.
Tickets to ON THE AIR are $10 and can be purchased on Sunday
mornings after services or through Beth Holland in the church office.
With just one show, we will sell out, so get your tickets today!!
HOW I BECAME AN EPISCOPALIAN
By: Deborah Fuller
The road to becoming an Episcopalian was long,
but when I got there, it stuck. In the third grade I
attended a Vacation Bible School one summer
with my cousins at the Good Shepherd Episcopal
Church in Augusta. They were not members, but
our mothers were always trying to find things for
the children to do during summer.
The church was beautiful, with dark wooden pews
and stained glass windows and it had air conditioning. (At home we did not
have air conditioning then, so the church was delightful.) Little did I know at
that young age that I was drawn to the Episcopal church by the liturgy, that
common thread. This was something special then that resonated with me.
I was raised in the Methodist Church while my grandmother and other family
members attended the Disciples of Christ Church. If you were not in some
church on Sunday, there was something seriously wrong with you.
I found the Episcopal Church, again, when my children were small, then
living in Auburn, Ala. One Sunday after the children were dressed and fed, I
just opened up the yellow pages and learned a service started in 15 minutes.
It was a short commute from the house. It took a couple of Sundays before I
got the hang of the liturgy, but when I did, it stuck. I was confirmed in 1981,
and I knew I was home.
The Episcopal Church has nourished me through Bible studies, women’s
groups, building campaigns, outreach ministries, singing in choirs, Vestry
membership, Cursillo, Happening, church retreats, Altar Guild, EfM, and my
favorite, being an Eucharistic Minister. Although I have had membership in
five different Episcopal churches, Christ Church holds my membership the
longest, at 10 years.
PRESCRIPTION BOTTLES NO LONGER NEEDED
Thanks to everyone who has provided empty
prescription bottles to be used by the people of Haiti
over the last 5-10 years. As of the first of this year
and for a variety of reasons, we no longer need to
collect your prescription bottles. Please dispose of
them according to your garbage/trash pickup
schedules. Thank you.
PARISH SUPPLY WISH LIST Help us cut expenses by donating needed supplies! The Parish
Supply drive for this quarter is ON and runs until August 4th.
There are three (3) ways you can give:
1. Love to shop? Grab a Wish List item from the "Giving
Tree" in the Parish Hall and purchase it at your favorites
retailer. There is also the option to make $25 monetary
donations on the display.
2. AmazonSmile Fanatic? Purchase an item from our Amazon Wish List
using this link: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3O0KX1UBZ7ZF4?ref_=wl_share
Items will be mailed directly to the church office for immediate use.
3. Like to keep things simple? When making a monetary donation for
supplies in any amount by check, please note in the Memo line whether the
check is for Kitchen Supplies or for Office Supplies. This will ensure our
bookkeeper knows your donation intent and to which account to apply
your donation.
AUGUST MISSION OF MERCY RECIPIENT—HAITI
Last month we had our 2nd annual Fundraiser to support the school in Haiti.
This Fundraiser was to supplement Christ Church's financial support. Haiti is
our Mission of Mercy recipient for the month of August. Your checks should
be payable to Christ Church and reference Haiti MOM in the memo line.
Thank you for your support.
TURNING OFF LIGHTS, LOCKING DOORS,
RESETTING THERMOSTATS
So that we can all be good stewards of our church property,
regardless of who has a key to lock up and who is usually
available to do this, the last person leaving from a room must
know it is their job to turn out the lights when leaving the
room, resetting any thermostats you adjusted, and locking all
doors used by your group. If you are the last person to leave
and do NOT have keys to the rooms, please contact Beth Holland in the
church office so she can take care of this. Thanks.
FAREWELL BRUNCH FOR GAIL DAVIS
Gail Davis is moving to Wichita, KS at the end of the month.
Ben and I are having a farewell brunch for her at our house at
10:00am on Saturday, August 17. Let me know if you’d like
to come and bring a dish to share. Sharon Pitman
THANKS TO AND FROM THE LAWN RANGERS
The Christ Church Lawn Rangers leadership
team would like to thank all of those that have
volunteered and continue to assist with keeping
all of the CCE lawn looking nice this last couple
of months. Rita Boughrum and Aurore Murphy
put in a lot of time working with contractors to
redo the Holcomb Bridge Road front of our
campus into the beautiful area that it is today.
We are still getting new volunteers and we are
getting equipment donations from parishioners. We still have need for more
volunteers, and we can use two more gas mowers in case anybody wants to
donate to us. We are still tweaking some of our procedures as we try to keep
our campus looking inviting.
If anyone has questions about volunteering some time, or donating
equipment, do not hesitate to contact Ed Hurley at edwardfhur-
[email protected]. We are also always open for questions or suggestions
about how to be better as a new Ministry of Christ Church Episcopal.
TAMALES SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 2019
On Sunday, August 18, 2019, from 11:30am until
12:30pm, the parishioners from the 1:00pm Hispanic
service will sell box lunches for $10 each. You can eat
your lunch in the Parish Hall or to take with you. The box
lunch includes: 3 tamales, beans, rice, salsa, and salad.
Please RSVP directly to Mimi Guerra at [email protected] by noon
on Sunday, August 11, 2019. All proceeds benefit the church’s general
operating account.
LOST & FOUND ITEMS
We have a lot of lost & found items in the church office
which need to be claimed. Along with the many umbrellas
we have collected over the last year, we also have reading
glasses, sun glasses, a ladies light-weight white sweater and
large white towel (found after the re-dedication service in
May), water bottle, assortment of keys, Rubic’s cube, and so
forth. If you have lost any of these items, please contact the church office to
claim them. If these items have not been claimed by August 1st, they will be
donated to the Thrift Shop.
