THE IGA PERTH ROYAL SHOWThe IGA Perth Royal Show is a not-for-profit event that preserves and promotes our heritage, culture and community spirit. It is the State’s biggest and most iconic annual celebration attracting up to 400,000 visitors to Claremont Showground each year and providing significant economic and social benefit to WA.
Established in 1834 by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RAS), the Show has touched the lives of generations of Western Australians by championing the success of our agricultural and regional industries.
THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF WAThe Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia (RAS) has played a central role in WA for more than 180 years and has coordinated the State’s icon event, the Perth Royal Show since 1834. As a not for profit, member based organisation our activities are community and industry based and the revenue we earn is invested into initiatives that support the community.
As well as staging the IGA Perth Royal Show, the RAS is responsible for venue management of Claremont Showground which hosts up to 250 events each year. The RAS is committed to education and provides a range of high school and tertiary scholarships for young West Australians as well as a curriculum based education program that teaches primary school children about agriculture.

How many animals? Thousands. Some
are competing for the accolade of
supreme champion, others are happy
to get to know you and all of them will
be at the IGA Perth Royal Show for
eight fun-fi lled days.
At Creatures Great and Small, pigs,
chicks, cavies and rabbits will be
waiting for a gentle pat or cuddle while
donkeys keep our champion alpacas
and goats company midway through
the Show. Some pigs put on a show
getting washed while three others
retreat to their houses of wood, straw
and brick. Pet and pedigree rabbits
will be vying for attention and you will
discover champion and racing cavies.
Dog and cat lovers can see pedigree
pooches and felines put their best paw
forward for the coveted Best in Show
award. There are dogs that dance,
those groomed to perfection and dog
handlers in competition for their top
award. Pet cats feel just as special as
their purrfect pedigree cousins with a
competition just for them.
There are sheep and more sheep. Can
you tell a Merino from a Corriedale, a
Poll Dorset from a Shropshire? Judging
takes place at the Sheep Shearing and
Wool Pavilion.
Hundreds of weird and wonderful, loud
and colourful pigeons and poultry are
at the Pigeons and Poultry shed.
All the spectacle and action happens
in the Main Arena where prestigious
equestrian competitions are part of
a national circuit and 34 breeds are
judged to award the supreme horse of
the Show.
Judging takes place in the Cattle
Judging Ring and everyone is welcome
to take a stroll through the Cattle Lane
Walk presented by Harvey Beef to
admire WA’s award-winning livestock.
