Introduction

Epworth Medical Foundation is pleased to invite you to become a sponsor of the twelfth annual Epworth Women’s Health Lunch on Thursday 3 October 2019 at the Grand Ballroom, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.

This event is an important education and awareness-building event. It also helps to raise funds for new medical equipment, cutting-edge education and ground breaking research at Epworth HealthCare with funds from this year’s event being directed to supporting the Epworth Women’s Leadership Network.

The topic for the 2019 event is:

‘Medical Milestones for Women’Through different stages of life, women experience such varied physical and mental health needs. There is no one standard solution, with diet,

hormonal balance and exercise playing a crucial role in ensuring women can live their best possible life, no matter what age.

About the Presenters

Master of Ceremonies

Dr Chantel Thornton (MC) BMSc(Hons) MBBS(Hons) FRACS

Dr Chantel Thornton is a specialist breast cancer surgeon, consulting at Epworth Hospital, Richmond and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Chantel is passionate about delivering the highest standard of breast cancer surgery and treatment, including oncoplastic breast cancer surgery and immediate breast reconstruction.

She is involved in several philanthropic organisations and has Board positions on The Foundation for Surgery, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Foundation for Breast Cancer Care.

Panel Discussion

Ms Amy Kaplan BNutrDiet, APD

Amy Kaplan is a specialised mental health dietitian at Epworth Clinic. She graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor in Nutrition and Dietetics. Amy has worked in a number of clinical settings, and has been working with clients in the mental health setting for the past decade.

Amy has a particular interest in Eating Disorders, driving change in the acute management of eating disorders in the public health system, and continuing this work in private practice. Her experience extends to the development and facilitation of group education programs in the mental health environment, with a focus on advocating for the link between nutrition and optimising mental health.

Amy joined the Epworth Clinic team in early 2017 as the founding dietitian on the inpatient ward. She piloted the roll out of patient nutrition screening, conducted staff training, and continues to act as an advocate for nutrition amongst the clinical teams. Additionally she has been a key contributor to increasing awareness and improving clinical care for those living with an eating disorder.

About the Presenters

Dr Roisin (Rosie) Worsley MBBS (Hons), FRACP, PhD

Dr Roisin Worsley is an endocrinologist (hormone specialist) with a PhD in women’s health. Her primary interest is the effects of women’s hormones on their physical and psychological health. She consults at the Jean Hailes Centre at Epworth East Melbourne.

Dr Worsley completed medical school at Monash University. She spent several years working at The Alfred and then completed her specialist training through the Geelong and Alfred Hospitals. Her clinical experience includes the care of women with complex physical conditions such as cardiovascular disease and heart/lung transplants. Her research has focused on the health of women at midlife for which she has received young investigator prizes from the Australian, European and International Menopause Societies.

Dr Worsley delivers several talks per year, speaking to community groups and medical audiences, where she enjoys increasing awareness and answering questions at Q&A time.

Mrs Natasha Machado M.App ExSc (Ex.Presc), B.ExSc, ESSAM

Natasha Machado has been working full time as a clinical Exercise Physiologist for the past 8 years at Epworth HealthCare and is currently employed as a Grade 2 Exercise Physiologist. Since 2013, Natasha has also been a sessional lecturer at Australian Catholic University and Deakin University, for the Masters of Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology students presenting topics on rehabilitation post neurological injury, gait and running re-training, hydrotherapy and mental health and weight management.

Natasha has 2 peer-reviewed journal publications, has presented at the 2012 Exercise and Sports Science Australia conference and completed 1 poster presentation at Epworth Research Institute in 2013. As part of her clinical role, for the past 4 years Natasha supervises and coordinates all student clinical placements at Epworth Camberwell, but has been involved in student supervision and mentoring for the past 7 years.

Natasha is a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne with the project titled “Cardiac Rehabilitation in Stroke Survivors to Improve Survivorship – CRiSSIS”. She is the recipient of two Epworth Research institute scholarships for her research with Stroke survivors.
