HEADLINES We have, this morning, just hosted our busiest open morning to date, with
thirty families visiting the school. A big thank you to the parents who have
promoted the event and attended this morning and to all our pupils for act-
ing as tour guides and being so welcoming to our guests.
On Saturday evening we enjoyed a taxing Quiz Night, organised by the PA.
Mr Brindley, the Quiz Master, was in his element as he tested us on history,
music, tastes and vehicles on the screen. Thank you to Mrs Brindley and Mrs
Hart for their hard work keeping the evening running smoothly. Behind the
scenes Mrs Riches-Marshall and Mrs Chettiar organised the event, and Jerry,
along with the team fed us with a delicious curry. Thank you all for your ex-
cellent costumes.
On Wednesday, Mrs Harrod took our Year 3 pupils to join 400 pupils from oth-
er schools at Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School for a recorder concert.
All those involved had a fantastic time.
On Monday 18 March Mr Ceri Jones, Headmaster at Caterham School is taking our assembly on Integrity. If you would like
to meet Ceri, he will be in the Common Room, please join us from 8.20am for coffee. The House Art Competition art work is
on display in the Atrium – please do take the time to come and have a look, the standard is amazing.
We would like to offer our congratulation to Mrs Riches Marshall on her new full time position as a Key Stage 1 teacher at
Holmewood House School from September 2019. We also say a fond farewell to Mrs Fung-On who moves on to pastures
new at the end of this term. We wish them both the best of luck.
We are nearly ready to publish the schedule for our second Wellness Week which is running 7-10 May, more details will fol-
low in next week’s newsletter.
Finally, we have some new Rose Hill School bags for life, they are for sale in the school shop for £5.
Best wishes.
BABY BUNDLES COLLECTION The Baby Bundles initiative from the Tunbridge Wells & District NCT, aims to provide assistance to those in the local area un-
able to buy the essentials for their baby during the first few months of its life. Rose Hill School would like to support this local
initiative by organising a collection event for some essential items required for the bundles.

and Friday 22 March 2019:

sponges/flannels, baby wash & shampoo
Essential toiletries for pregnant women/new mums: maternity pads, disposable breast pads, nipple cream, tooth-
brushes, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel
Alternatively you can donate much needed funds to this local cause at www.justgiving.com/TWNCTBabyBundles/

M:TECH MUSIC TECHNOLOGY—SUMMER TERM M:Tech is a creative composition course in which children create exciting music using the latest music
technologies. The course is available to children age 7 - 13 and is suitable for all levels of musical ability.
In the Summer 2019 term the children will be working on Project ‘RETRO’
Take three classic video games, blend in retro effects, and compose your own epic soundtrack. A digital
download is emailed directly to parents and a Certificate will be given out in assembly at the end of
each term. This course is administered directly by M:Tech and so to register your
child’s interest please sign up online at www.mtechonline.co.uk or contact Pia, Re-
becca or Ann on 01483 578114.
Fees are £170 per term with weekly sessions of 30 minutes. Please note: It is important
to understand M:Tech is not a club or an activity. It is a group instrumental lesson
teaching creative composition with a clear graded learning curve, therefore we ap-
ply the same terms and conditions as for instrumental lessons notice is required by
half term in order to stop at the end of term.

YEAR 5 TRIP TO LONDON
Year 5 had an enjoyable visit to
the Golden Hinde, moored at
Southwark. We had an excellent
guide who told us all about Fran-
cis Drake’s voyage around the
world.
He had a crew of 64 sailors who
somehow fitted on to the ship for
its 3 year long voyage. We turned
the capstan to raise the anchor
and “fired” one of the ship’s guns
(called minnions). Year 5 were an
enthusiastic and able crew!

Last week was Book Week and the whole school had
a fantastic time celebrating books and sharing sto-
ries. On Monday the Library held a Book Hunt and
over 60 children took part. Congratulations to Gigi S
(Lower School) and Sophie B (Middle School) whose
names were drawn from Auggie’s space helmet as
winners. Well done to everyone who took part.
On Tuesday the Middle and Upper School pupils visit-
ed Pre-Prep to ‘Share a Story’. It was fantastic to
come together to share the Pre-Prep children’s fa-
vourite books from home.
Wednesday saw over 80 children take part in the Li-
brary’s Book Week Book Quiz and we all had a great
time. Thank you to Alex F who helped me as Quiz
Master. All teams who entered did remarkably well,
and all teams scored over 6 out of 10! Five teams
scored full marks—well done! They were: WHIZZ-KIDS:
Jacob, Oliver, Rufus, Edward, Hugo and Zachary
LIVERNAL: Will and Luke JEALE; Jemima W, Emma,
Amelia D, Lily P and Evie S BLOBS: Christabel, Lily S
and the other Lily S! THE 5 STORIES TREE HOUSE: Char-

Spring Term 2019, issue 9
Thursday was World Book Day itself – now in its 22nd year! All children should
have received their special World Book Day token (redeemable up to 31st
March). Thank you to Alex, Joshua, Lily P, Amelia and Christabel from Year 6,
who kicked off our special Assembly to the whole school wearing outfits repre-
senting characters from their favourite books. They told us why they loved their
chosen novels, and, the next day, a pupil bought ‘The
Wolves of Willoughby Chase’ from the Book Fair thanks to
Christabel’s glowing recommendation! The Assembly also
saw the world premi-
ere of the Library’s
movie trailer, show-
casing all that’s avail-
able (not just books)
and all the fun we
have, in the Library.
It was wonderful to
have a special week
celebrating stories,
illustrators, authors
and books. Remem-
ber; read a book and
keep the story forev-
er!
Happy Reading,
Mrs Macdonald-
Brown.

QUIZ NIGHT!
Last Saturday Rose Hill hosted the annual PA quiz
night, with the new quizmaster Mr Brindley making an
impressive debut. The theme this year was top of the
pops and a lot of effort was made by parents and
staff in dressing up. Jerry kept us energised with his
legendary curry. The 2 staff tables put up a good fight
but the quiz was won by the team ‘Let’s get Quizzical’
from reception. The prize for best dressed went to the
‘heroes’ team.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL
MAY HALF TERM WEEK EVENT
4 May – 30 August 2019 Young Ali Baba stumbles across an enchanted cave when he overhears the magic words that open it,
‘Open Sesame!’. Inside the cave he finds untold amounts of gold and jewels and takes some of it home to
show his wife. But what will he do when she chides him for stealing? Can he keep the secret from his jeal-
ous brother? And when the Robber King comes looking for the missing treasure supported by an army of 40
angry thieves – will he and his family survive?
The show is notable for a scene where one character polishes off most of the thieves – 37 to be precise,
and you can count each one.
Illyria was the first company to tour children’s theatre. Now in their 28th season, they return with one of their
most popular shows ever, adapted from the One Thousand and One Nights (otherwise known as
the Arabian Nights), packed with cliff-hangers, larger-than-life characters, and laughs galore.
There’s lots and lots to join in with – and the most magical cave
you’ve ever seen. Perfect for thieves and vagabonds aged 5+.
Tuesday 28 May 2.30pm Reserved Covered Seating £15.50
Discounted Theatre and Gardens Ticket £26.70 Adult £22.30 Child
Gates open 45 minutes before the performance.
Stay all day when you buy a combined Castle Gardens and per-
formance reduced rate ticket.
