News from the Wheel-House
Hello Everybody,
May the Good Shepherd bless and guide you always!I hope you all had a wonderful and joyful Valentine’s Day. You know, celebrating the Valentine’s Day is not all about buying presents for each other, wearing red and white and going out to a ‘special dinner’, it’s about more than that. It is a special day in which we take time to show our af-fection and gratitude. We use our resources and take time to articulate how much we love and value our people. We do the things to strengthen our love and bond. We spice up our relationship by creating new sparks that can play a very crucial role in taking our relationship to another level. Now, the celebration is over and the day is gone, what is next? Are we going to forget about it and get busy with our daily routine? It is true that we have our own duty and responsibilities to care about but that doesn’t mean they should not be kind of things carrying us away from being thoughtful, grateful and showing our love. Especially, for us Christian everyday should be a day of showing our love for others and that too for those who are in need. Remember, how wonderful and joyful it was when you articulated your love on Valentine’s Day. I encourage you to make it hap-pen constantly and consistently all throughout your life for God, your soul and others. May God, who is the source and summit of love, help us to accomplish it!
Our Pope has asked us to celebrate this year as “Year of Eucharist”. It is going to start on the Maundy Thursday April 9, 2020 and will go until Corpus Christi Feast June 3, 2021. To celebrate the year of Eucharist in our parish in a meaningful and fruitful way, we have formed a team of Coordinators. I am really proud and happy to introduce you the team members: Ms. Lenora Delvecchio, Ms. Elay-na O’Neil, Ms. Paige Coles and Mr. John Tsiros. When I approached them to be a part of this team and coordinate the upcoming program of the Year of Eucharist, they right away said “yes”. I thank and appreciate it. I had an infor-mal introductory meeting with them on Feb. 16, 2020. It was good and encouraging. Kindly keep the team in your valuable prayers that they may be graced to do their job to make the Year of Eucharist a fruitful one for our faith community.

PASSION PLAY 2020
Once again this year on Palm Sunday, the youth of St. Anthony of Padua will present the Passion Narrative at all the Masses. This will be the 20th year of this beautiful and prayerful portrayal of the passion and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We are inviting all students in grades 3-Confirmation 2 to come and join us. Rehearsals begin next Sunday, March 1st in the Main Church from 1:15-2:30. At the first rehearsal, there will be much more infor-mation regarding rehearsal times and locations. Parents and grandparents, encourage your children to participate in the Passion Play. As many of our past youth members will tell you, it is an amazing experience and one they will remember for the rest of their lives! If you would like more information, please see Mrs. Felzani or Father Xavi-er. God bless you all!
News from the Wheel-House
On Feb. 26, 2020 we start the Lent with Ash Wednesday. On that day we have three Masses (7:00 AM, 12 Noon and 7:00 PM) and one Ash Service at 4:00 PM in the main church. At all the Masses of the day we will do the Ashes. Besides these ser-vices in the church, we have Ash services at 10:30 AM in PACE and at 3:00 PM in Friendly Garden and Jack Shatter House. Hereby I want to remind you that Ash Wednesday is a day of obligation. We are encouraged not only to attend Mass but also to fast on that day. Kindly remember to do the good work of supporting the Indian children during this Lenten season. We have been doing this for years and they also remain grateful to us. Donation of $375.00 will help an Indian child to get ad-opted for a year. During the Lent, at our church vestibule we will have baskets for the food donations which will go to our Revere Food Pantry. Kindly support!
Well, I hear the bell to go and hold the wheel of St. Anthony’s! Bye now! God bless you.
Your administrator, Fr. Xavier
CONFIRMATION UPDATE
How quickly this year has passed! Thank you to Father Xavier and Dr. and Mrs. Consoli who will be our presenters today. A few reminders for students in Confirmation 1 and 2: First, don’t forget to be attending Mass and signing the attendance sheet at the back of the church each weekend! Second, how are you doing on your community service hours? Your community service sheets are due on May 17th at our last class. Thirdly, please remind your spon-sors and parents that they also should be fulfilling their community service hours along with you. There are no classes this month, March, due to the Passion Play rehearsals each Sunday afternoon! Remember that participating in the Passion Play is a requirement for Confirmation for both Year 1 and Year 2. Rehearsals start next Sunday on March 1 from 1:15-2:30 in the Main Church. If you would like to volunteer at the First Communion Retreat for service hours, please let me know. The retreat is on Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 until 1:30. There are 4 hours available for community service. Working with children on craft projects and helping to serve lunch are just a couple of activities.
On Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30, our Confirmation students, parents and sponsors are to attend the Family Reconciliation service in the Main Church! We look forward to sharing this evening with you!
Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of our candidates!Donna Felzani

7th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Lent
Life in the modern world is busy. Yet, we make journey to re-fresh ourselves by going into new places and by visiting our loved ones. Sometimes we make the journey from one conti-nent to another continent for business, education and work. Like this we go on making numerous journeys in our lives. But how many of us make a journey into ourselves? Lent is a period of special time to journey into our own selves.
The big mistake we often make in our lives is finding fault with others and ignoring our own sinfulness. Our Lord says “Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye?” (Mt. 7:3-4). When we look into ourselves more sincerely, we are able to recognize our own positive and negative sides. Most often our unwillingness makes us not look into our-selves. Therefore, we must take effort to war against this attitude.
We should notice an element throughout the Bible that God never wishes the destruction of the wicked but his or her conversion. Conversion is nothing but taking a complete turn to another direction. It is not so much a onetime event but a lifelong process. Pope Benedict XVI says conversion implies two dimensions: recognizing our faults and repent-ing. So, let us recognize our own faults and make the efforts to repent. To have a genuine and true conversion we need total surrender to God and His grace. While recognizing our own sinfulness let us surrender ourselves totally to the hands of God. If we do so, this Lenten season will become fruitful and bring real joy and meaning in our lives.
There is no doubt that we all spend extra time for prayer, do a lot of charity work and observe fasting. Are they going to be routine practices or to be our GPS to reach our spiritual goal(s)? What is your goal for lent? Specify it (them) and begin to work on it. I wish and pray that your Lenten obser-vances bring necessary change in your lives.
Prayer: Merciful God, I thank you for the blessings and op-portunities to journey into my own self. I feel sorry for the failures to recognize my faults and mistakes. Give grace to turn away from my sinfulness and to create a good atmo-sphere to have good relationship with You and my neigh-bors. I ask this grace through Christ our Lord. Amen. Fr. M. A. Heniston Washington
Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving
Giving alms, Jesus teaches, means making the needs of oth-ers our own, especially the needy of our world. They are all around us: children and the old, the sick and the suffering, families and individuals, next-door neighbors and people in lands faraway.Whatever we give should be something of ourselves, something that costs us. We will receive blessings from God in return. What shall we give to the needy this lent? In deciding, decide generously. After all, before us is the great alms Jesus gave: “He loved us, and gave himself up for us.”Pope Francis said in his Ash Wednesday homily, ‘Lent is also a privileged time for prayer’, He quoted St. Augustine, who de-scribed fasting and alms giving as “the two wings of prayer,” because they are signs of humility and charity.
Prayer offers us all a very special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to deepen our commitment to a way of life, rooted in our baptism. In our busy world, Prayer provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon our patterns and sins. We should pray more deeply, experience sorrow for what we’ve done and failed to do, and to be generous to those in need.
