that phone call to someone I hadn’t spoken to in a

long time. I wish I smiled to that person waiting on

me in the store. I wish I had told him or her I loved

them or that they were doing great, or did a good

job. I wish I had… We never know when time is up. Most

important on that wish list to go & visit Jesus in the chapel.

You don’t want Him to say to you when you meet Him — why

didn’t you come & visit me. I was waiting for you!

St. Charles Borromeo Church November 22, 2015

Today’s Solemnity of Christ the King

brings to an end another Church year. Next

weekend we will celebrate the First Sunday of

Advent and we are reminded that Christmas is only

a month away. It is also a Fifth Sunday and there

will be a second collection for St Charles Parish St Vincent de

Paul Society. It is fitting that our “national holyday,” Thanksgiving,

forms a bridge between this Church year and the next. We are all

familiar with our Pilgrim ancestors and their first Thanksgiving.

They came to the New World to expand their opportunities and to

worship God as they saw fit. They ended their first year—after a

long journey and many hardships—by recognizing and thanking

God for their blessings.

Almost four hundred years later we are also called to

recognize our many blessings and to thank God for them. We also

share the many good gifts we have with those who have little.

While our ancestors faced a challenging—and often

harsh—world, so do we. Although we may be more

technologically advanced, our days are also touched with terror

and uncertainty; witness the events in France just a few days ago.

As the Scripture says “you know not the day nor the hour!”

For many years, St Charles Borromeo Parish has

sponsored a Thanksgiving Day Mass. There is excellent music

and outstanding participation. As was the custom in the Church’s

early years, at Offertory time the congregation brings forth gifts to

be given to the needy—along with the bread and wine to be offered

at Mass. There is a clear connection: the bread and wine we offer

becomes the Body and Blood of the Lord that feeds us so that we

might be Christ to others. Our gifts of foodstuff, given at Mass--

and then shared with the needy—remind us that we feed the Lord

when we help those around us. “Whatever you do for my least

brother or sister, you do for Me!” says the Lord.

Mass this Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26,

will be at 9:30am. If it is your tradition to attend, see you there.

If this be your first time, you will be most welcome.

That’s Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:30am!

At this time of the year I am amazed and gratified by the

many parishioners who seek to help others “for the holidays.”

They assist with tuition, provide gifts for children and supply

meals for families. In 1990, twenty-five years ago, we sponsored

our first Advent Giving Tree. That Giving Tree Project has taken

many forms over the years. At its heart, it gives each one of us an

opportunity to help others for Christmas. We assist four organiza-

tions that promote life values, from conception till natural death.

Each place gives us a “wish list” of the items they need to help

them in their work. You pick the place and the need you want to

meet, purchase a gift from their wish list, and leave your gift

before the Blessed Mother or Holy Family shrines in church by

1:00 pm on Sunday December 13. This year we will help:

Maggie’s Place—Zechariah House: the Parma home for

expectant mothers;

Providence House: crisis nursery/shelter for newborns through

five years of age;

West Side Catholic Center: food, clothing, advocacy, and shelter

for all who come in need.

Malachi House: hospice care for the terminally ill homeless.

Many parishioners have asked where Market Day went. Over the

summer the PTU's primary fundraising tool closed so the service is

no longer available. Not to worry - We have replaced it with

Schwan's Home Delivery service. You may know Schwan's as they

have been around for many years providing delivery of high quality

frozen foods right to your door. What's nice about this program is it

is all online (or over the phone) so no need to come to school to pick

up your order.

Beginning November 11th & continuing through December 26th,

any orders placed with Schwan's will earn the PTU bonus funds that

go directly to the children of St Charles School. After that we will

continue to earn funds through the end of March.

To place your order:

1. Visit Schwans-Cares.com

2. Enter Campaign ID: 24522 into the search box located

in the upper right hand corner then click to open campaign.

3. Click "Shop to Give" and then select either the "Buy Now"

or "Shop Now" option.

4. Start shopping!

Or, call 1-855-870-7208 and provide Campaign ID: 24522

Once you place your first order, you will receive a product catalog

and you can place all orders via phone and select your method of

holidays and support the students of St Charles School. Please direct

any questions to [email protected] and thank you
