Stand Up and Be Counted As I write this article the world received the sad news that legendary author Maya Angelou died at the age of 86. On CNN I read an article about her astounding career and the amazing person she was. What grabbed my attention was the following quotation from her in 2009: "Our country needs us all right now to stand up and be counted. We need to try to be great citizens. We are necessary in this country, and we need to give something -- that is to say, go to a local hospital, go to the children's ward and offer to the nurse in charge an hour twice a month that you can give them reading children's stories or poetry," she said. "And go to an old folks' home and read the newspaper to somebody. Go to your church or your synagogue or your mosque, and say, 'I'd like to be of service. I have one hour twice a month.' "You'll be surprised at how much better you will feel," she said. "And good done anywhere is good done everywhere." By the time you read this article we will have celebrated the Feast of the Ascension. The readings for this feast remind us that in Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven we are promised the Holy Spirit. We are blessed by the Spirit to continue the way of Jesus Christ in the world. In other words we are anointed by God to do good anywhere, discovering that in so doing good is being done everywhere. I hope as we move from Spring into Summer you sense God’s blessings to be of service as a member of Saint Ignatius. It is during this time of year that we prepare for our grand rummage sale. This year we are also preparing for our resale ministry. I hope each of us will examine how we can be of service for these two ministries and in a variety of other ways. God invites each of us as individuals, members of a great community, to be people of service. As Maya Angelou reminds us, “And good done anywhere is good done everywhere.”
See you in Church,Fr. Tim

Warden’s Message - Katie NixonAs we head into the “quiet” liturgical season (as I inwardly giggle knowing all that we’ll undertake at our “sleepy little parish” this summer ;-)) I kept wondering about what to write. As I scanned Facebook and email and thought about my own inner dialogue as of late, a theme emerged…forgiveness. I’ve been intrigued by something I’ve seen lately on social media recently…the #ForgivenessChallenge. It’s tied to a man I’ve long respected and been enamored by, Bishop Desmond Tutu. P.S. if you ever meet my parents, ask them to tell you the story of when I met Bishop Tutu, it’s one of their favorites. In their book, The Book of Forgiving, Desmond & Mpho Tutu say, “With each act of forgiveness, whether small or great, we move toward wholeness.”- As I did some research on their FB page (just search forgiveness challenge), I discovered this mission:
Human Journey is a new initiative co-founded by Desmond Tutu and Doug Abrams with a lot of help from our friends and hopefully from you. Human Journey is committed to spreading the African understanding of ubuntu–the realization that each of us thrives only when all of us thrive. We are inextricably linked to our family, our community, and our world…Our goal is to create events–like the Forgiveness Challenge–media and a global community that can help people to thrive on their individual life journey so we can thrive on our collective human journey.
It got me thinking. As St. Ignatius continues towards our mission to “Walk in love as Christ taught us” through our projects in the community and our love and support of each other; where can I find places to forgive? Where can we as a community forgive? Where can we show our belief that we all in fact will only ‘thrive when all of us thrive?’ I hope to explore this challenge more in the coming months and invite you to join me. Happy summer to all; I leave you with these words:
“The Very Good News of the Gospel is that God has chosen to forgive us in Jesus Christ. When
we finally awaken and are able to recall who we are and to whom we belong, when we stand up
and dust ourselves off and begin the journey home, God comes running to meet us.” -Br. David
Vryhof, Society of Saint John the Evangelist

Pentecost Sunday, June 8Trivia: Red is the liturgical color for Pentecost Sunday. Red recalls the tongues of flame in which the Holy Spirit descended on the first Pentecost. The Season after Pentecost begins with an observance of Trinity Sunday when we remember and honor the Triune God revealed to us in and through the life of the Resurrected Christ. On this Sunday, white is the color of the day. From this Sunday on, the color will be green as we move into ordinary time and hear the lessons of Jesus’ teachings and learn how to live the Christian life. The color for the season after Pentecost is green to symbolize the growth and life of the church. It is the longest season of the church year, from Trinity Sunday until the first Sunday of Advent.A tradition of some churches in ancient times was to baptize adult converts to the faith on Pentecost. The newly baptized catechumens would wear white robes on that day, so Pentecost was often called “Whitsunday” or “White Sunday” after these white baptismal garments. Many Christian calendars, liturgies, and hymnals still use this term.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Our choir will sing on Pentecost and then take a break for the summer. Be sure to come and hear their beautiful music.
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDSBuilding and Grounds is still looking for a few good men and women. Our scheduled meeting on May 14th was cancelled in favor of utilizing that time to prepare for the furniture sale. With that successful event behind us, we need to get support behind the on-going maintenance requirements of the Church and grounds. The cancelled B&G meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 4th at 6:30 p.m. Please consider donating some time to help keep our building and grounds in tip top shape!
A quick recap of some of the B&G accomplishments in May. Most of our resources (Father Tim, Tim Donahue and yours truly) were committed to getting the barn remodeled for the tent sale. If you havenʼt seen the updated barn, please take the time to pay a visit out back. The team did a terrific job of framing, insulating and applying the plastic visqueen barrier to the barn walls. In order to meet our deadline, the installation of the paneling was completed by our subcontractor at a very reasonable cost. All of this work was being completed while our very dedicated Godʼs Will Resale Store volunteers continuously made pick-ups, sorted and priced items for the furniture sale. Many thanks to all who gave their precious time towards completing these tasks in time for the sale! In addition, thanks to John Grzyb for completing the maintenance work on the Church snow blower. We are ready (way ahead of schedule) for next winter.
As we move forward into the summer months we are looking for volunteers to cut the grass. Our new John Deere lawnmower makes fast work of this task! It now takes only about 2 hours to mow the lawn. A weekly schedule will be posted on the bulletin board for people to sign up for this chore. In addition, a separate schedule will be posted for volunteers to do the trim work. A training session in operating the new John Deere tractor is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th at 9 a.m. Hope to see you there!
Finally, we will be posting a list of B&G tasks that need attention. Please take time to review this list on a periodic basis and if there is something that suits your particular talents, please consider volunteering to work on it. Questions regarding this list should be forwarded to the attention of Bill McElligott.
Well thatʼs all for now. God bless and have a safe summer! Bill McElligott, Buildings and Grounds Liaison262-862-9663

TERRACYCLEFor those who are new or just may not yet be aware, in February of 2011 St. Ignatius partnered up with Terracycle in an effort to “outsmart waste” and protect one of Godʼs most wonderous creations next to human – our home planet, Earth.By collecting the “upcyclable” items listed below, we can each make a positive difference both to our environment as well as fundraising here at St. Ignatius. However, we have recently been fortunate enough to join the following two new brigades:1) The Frito Lays Snack Bag brigade. All size bags, even individual sizes are accepted. They go by total weight. We must collect 14 lbs. of assorted Frito Lay brand bags as the minimum shipment to Terracycle, which will be worth 1 point (one cent) per bag towards St. Ignatius fundraising :)2) The Miscellaneous E-Waste Brigade which accepts any brand cameras, digital cameras, camcorders, GPS units and graphing calculators (minimum shipment of 25 units; 100 points each, except GPS units are 50 points each)Please note the “upcyclable” items as listed below which collectively, can add up quickly to support greater fundraising efforts. So please remember to drop them off in the convenient depository box as you enter the church whenever you should have any - and consider mentioning to your friends and neighbors who may be environmental enthusiasts if they could help outsmart waste along with us. Many thanks to all who have been contributing – FYI, we have received a total of $130 from Terracycle as of December. So far the cell phone and inkjet brigades have been most beneficial to us. If you are interested in learning more about Terracycle, visit their website or ask Cathy Grzyb (262)862-7191, who is our parishʼs contact person.FRITO LAY BRAND SNACK BAGSEMPTY INK JET CARTRIDGES (ALL BRANDS – BUT NOT LARGE TONER CARTRIDGES)OLD CELL PHONES (INCLUDING NON-WORKING)SCOTCH TAPE DISPENSERS (3M, SCOTCH MAGIC AND PLAID)MP3 PLAYERS (NON-WORKING)DIGITAL CAMERAS (NON-WORKING)LAPTOPS COMPUTERS, TABLET AND E-READERS (NON-WORKING)ALL KRAFT CHEESE PACKAGING MATERIALS (INCLUDING PHILADELPHIA CREAM CHEESE, CRACKER BARREL, VELVEETA, ATHENS, BREAKSTONE & KNUDSEN)

Formation CommissionWe like to say St. Ignatius is a family; so it is. We have all the dynamics of a vigorous extended family. For me, this church is where we blessed my sisterʼs unborn baby, where people greet my kids as warmly as their relatives, and where they tolerate their silly antics. This church is where I found my baby-sitter, my daughterʼs dance teacher, and my dogʼs breeder. We take care of each others' needs, support each other, and challenge each other. There are probably times when we annoy each other, and quarrel with each other. (I have not been involved in the church long enough for it to happen; but I am not naive enough to think it wonʼt). Evangelism experts tell church folks not to say, “Our church is like family”. I mean, how many times in our lives do we actually join someone elseʼs family? Probably it is only when a person gets married that we actually become a member of someoneʼs family. Think about it, how easy was it to join your spouseʼs family, no matter how wonderful they are?Last month, St. Ignatius did something intentional in the formation process. We held a “welcome lunch” for new members. About thirty of our members, some who have been here for a few months and some who have been here since before they were born, joined together for a meal and conversation. Fr. Tim spoke about the background of St. Ignatius, the Diocese of Chicago, and the Episcopal Church, and many people shared stories of what this community means to us. As a small church, we often ask, “How can we get more people? How can we share the joy we find at St. Ignatius?” I think we grow our church through the care we take for our members and our community. Our faith, and our church, are built on relationship. It is relationship to each other that allows churches to weather storms of conflict. When people are in disagreement, tired, frustrated, or anxious about things, their love of each other and their shared vision for this church bring them through the conflict. When my childhood church was in serious strife, my mother contemplated leaving. My grandparents, who had been baptized and married in that congregation, told her, “We have been here long before this problem, and we will be here long after it. We are not going anywhere.” It was their relationship, their roots in the community, their love for the people, that allowed them to take the long view and stay the course. When we sit together in fellowship, share stories about our experiences at St. Ignatius, and learn about the history of the church, we build the types of relationships that stick.Thank you to all who cooked for us and all who blessed us with your company. We are hoping to have more welcome lunches in the future. I hope you will join us next time!Linda Mizwicki (847-401-4915)Formation Commission Liaison
