Fridays of Advent Soup Suppers This year we will be having Friday gatherings to pray the rosary and share the breaking of bread in the form of soup suppers. The dates are:
December 13 December 20
We will meet at 5:30 in the church hall for a short lesson on the art of the 5 mysteries of the rosary for that Friday, followed by a recitation of the rosary and then the soup supper.
Wondering how to best become more active in your Church? Consider volunteering to bring Christ to our homebound and care center residents!
As our family ages, the need for even more folks ministering to those who can no longer attend Mass grows too. We are in need of at least 6 additional volunteers at this time, some will be short time commitments, some on-going.
Please prayerfully discern if Christ is calling you to bring Him out to the world! Contact Deacon Jeff for more information at [email protected] or 377-4869.

Facts, not Myths, About Immigrants
Fact: Immigrants in all ethnic categories commit less crime than native-born Americans.
Immigrants have the lowest crime rates of any other demographic group in the U.S. In California, male Mexican nationals ages 18 to 40 -- those more likely to have entered the country illegally -- are more than eight times less likely than their U.S.-born counterparts to be imprisoned. According to a 2008 report from the conservative Americas Majority Foundation18, crime rates are lowest in states with the highest immigration growth rates. From 1999 to 2006, the total crime rate declined 13.6 percent in the 19 highest-immigration states, compared to a 7.1 percent decline in the other 32 states.

Retirement Fund for Religious Collection December 8, 2019
Give in Thanksgiving
“The nuns left lasting impressions on me,” writes a donor. “I shall always be grateful for my Catholic education.” Please join in thanking the thousands of senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests who worked tirelessly to educate the young and serve those in need. Next week’s second collection is for the Retirement Fund for Religious, which helps hundreds of religious communities care for aging members. Please give generously.

Advent—begins this weekend and is a short, four week (really three-and-one-half this
year) liturgical season that encourages us to always prepare spiritually for the second
coming of Jesus, of which we know not the time or the hour, and later on in the season,
to prepare for the celebration of Christmas.
Advent models the way we can live the Christian life by how it encourages us to quiet contemplation of the
Word of God as Mary contemplated the Christ-child growing within her womb, the need for constant
repentance and purification as John the Baptist heralded, and the ever pervasive hope inspired by the reading
of the prophets, that seen through the triumph of Jesus on the cross and his glorious resurrection, that nothing
is too dark, no situation so chaotic or no struggle too great that would overcome Christ. He is the light in the
darkness and the victor over sin, death, chaos and struggles. All our hope is in him who always saves us.
The Theme of the Homily for the First Week of Advent—
Are You in Peak Condition?
Prepare for the homily by reading the scripture readings for that Sunday and ask yourself the question that is
posed. Then, use the homily to help you answer the question.
Children’s Mass Activity Bags--St. Joseph Catholic School is sponsoring activity bags for small children to use
during Mass. The bags have a variety of religious themed activities for children. The bags will be in a basket on
the table by the bathroom and drinking fountain in the church lobby. Families can take a bag, utilize it during
Mass, and return the bag along with its contents back to the basket after Mass.

St. Joseph Christmas 2019 Mass Schedule--The Mass times will not change this year, but we will have one
less Mass. Since we are now a one priest parish, the 4:00 PM Christmas Eve Mass in the school gym will not
occur. Rather, all Masses will be celebrated in the church and we will welcome the overflow for any Mass in
the church basement where a large TV screen and sound system will be set-up.
The Christmas Mass schedule is:
4:00 PM Christmas Eve—This Mass time is the most popular and hence is very crowded.
6:30 PM Christmas Eve—This Mass has competed with the 9:00 AM Christmas Day Mass as the second
most crowded which means about two-thirds of the church being filled.
9:00 PM Christmas Eve—This is the least crowded of all the Masses and is usually half full.
9:00 AM Christmas Day—This Mass can be on par with the 6:30 PM Christmas Eve attendance or larger.
