Corpus Christi The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

He said to them, "Give them some food yourselves." - Luke 9:13 On this feast day many years ago in a small Haitian town, I was awakened before dawn by the sounds of preparation for a special event. Early that morning, people from the village had gone to work, arranging tropical flower petals to create the outline of a heart, a ciborium and a host on the dirt road. Today's gospel transports me back to that moment when creative neighbors who had scarcely enough food to sustain their bodies witnessed to Jesus' words. They themselves fed me with images of beauty to nourish my soul. Their artistry opened me to receive with gratefulness the Body and Blood of Christ given over in love then and given over in love now for all of us.
