The Story of Us Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday)

Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. - John 20:29 We all know the story of Thomas: He wasn't with the others when Jesus appeared post-resurrection, and he promptly declared his disbelief. It surprises us that Thomas wasn't willing to take the word of the other disciples. After all, why would they lie? Thomas was appropriately overwhelmed a week later when Jesus returned and invited him to touch his wounds. Thomas' story is also the story of us. We can feel isolated and abandoned when we face struggle after struggle while the blessings bestowed on others seem so obvious. But the Lord's ways, and his love, don't always come in visual forms. If we summon up the faith and courage and patience to accept the Lord's timing and plans, even when we find them difficult to accept, the happy ending he is writing for us becomes more apparent--and believable. Lord, help me to see you--and to believe and trust when I can't. (Melanie Rigney., copyright LivingFaith 2019)
