PARISH SUPPORT UPDATE
Last weekend’s First Collection amounted to $10,474. The Christmas Collection will be reported in the Jan. 7 Bulletin. In order to meet our Parish’s operating expenses and save for future projects, the First Collection should bring in at least $11,000 every weekend.
Please keep in mind that the First Collection at Sunday Mass, funds all operating expenses of your parish, including salaries, utilities and administrative needs. 2018 Increased Offertory Program: The 2018 Increased Offertory is under way! Every registered household will soon be receiving information about this annual program through the mail, in the bulletin, and at Mass. The prayers and donations of every household are necessary to support our parish and its efforts to bring the love of Christ and the truth of His Gospel to our community. Please give prayerful thought to increasing your weekly contributions in the new year. Weekly Collection envelopes and online giving options(www.stmatthewspotsylvania.org) are available to all parishioners.
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Parishioners, I would like to wish all of you a happy, holy, and prosperous New Year. The early part of 2018 will truly be a time of new beginnings for St. Matthew’s: our Director of Music, Linda Long, will be retiring this spring, after more than 30 years of dedicated service. This year’s Children’s Christmas Pageant, produced under her direction, served as a fitting capstone to her many years of musical ministry in our parish. Although she will step down as Music Director at the end of the Christmas Season, happily Ms. Long will remain on the parish staff until the spring. I ask all of you to extend your welcome and prayers to Lyudmila Syrochkina, who will take up the position of Director of Music as we begin Ordinary Time in January. Ms. Syrochkina has a great deal of training and experience in organ performance and choral direction, serving in seminary and parish settings. St. Matthew’s has been blessed with a wonderful music program, and I’m confident that this transition will be a new chapter in that fine history. Yours in Christ, Father Eversole
