I am very proud to introduce and welcome you to St Pancras Catholic Primary School. I hope that our Prospectus will act as a guide to our school life. We are a small, vibrant and very friendly Catholic Primary School with Christ at its centre and our children at its heart. We provide a creative and fulfilling environment full of exciting and happy learners of all denominations. We work hard together as children, parents, carers, staff and governors and a parish to create a loving and caring whole school family. We offer a holistic education to acquire life skills to enable us to become all that we were created to be. St Pancras Catholic Primary School is a diverse and creative community, where the individual is cherished, talents are nurtured and excellence is an everyday occurrence. Our vision at St Pancras centres on our mission statement as well as our learning and teaching policy in which we have identified four core aims, those of Independence, Interdependence, Creativity and Spirituality. We have high expectations for all, from all. High standards are set by our well qualified, experienced staff. We place particular emphasis on excellent behaviour, attendance, punctuality, uniform, good manners and individual progress. We look to support and challenge pupils so that they can flourish in a culture of success. Our pursuit of excellence will ensure that St Pancras pupils have the best opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and attributesnecessary to succeed in the 21st century. We believe as a school family that we provide high quality education for each and every child to empower them to be the very best that they can be and to use their God given gifts and talents. To learn is to live!

At St Pancras Catholic Primary School we are… • A worshipping community with Christ at its centre, nurturing

spiritual growth for all. We respect and celebrate diversity. • A learning community with children at its heart. Individuals are

encouraged to discover their potential and embrace wide ambitions. We recognise and celebrate all forms of success.

• A family that encourages links between our school, the parish and

the wider community through shared celebrations and recognition of the importance of learning.

Our Mission

The curriculum is divided into three stages, Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Each key stage is led by a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The team work very closely with their colleagues to ensure they track the pace and progress of each child across the school. We know that the early years are fundamental to the educational development and future success of your child. In Foundation Stage and in Key Stage 1 we take great care to provide a child-initiated,

happy and attentive environment where your child can flourish both academically and personally. The emphasis in all lessons is on all pupils making progress and enjoying their learning in a safe, nurturing, supportive environment. Teaching and learning is our top priority at St Pancras Catholic Primary School. Extensive use is made of Technology to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. It is an integral part of life and we use it as an essential tool to

support and enhance our learning. Ever evolving advances in technology mean that students can now measure and explore like never before.

‘Pupils make good progress across the school, to reach standards which are

above average, particularly in reading and mathematics. Their achievement is good.’

We are ambitious, always, for the children to achieve their very best. Our high expectations of work and behaviour are shared by the children’s parents and carers and together, we work in close partnership to ensure that standards are consistently high. At St Pancras Catholic Primary School we want all of our pupils to experience the joy of success in and out of the classroom. We are committed to holistic education. Naturally we place emphasis on academic process, but equally we develop and nurture progress in other areas such as social, spiritual, personal, health and moral education. There is a strong focus on individual learning through personalised learning goals. Academic progress is recorded and monitored regularly when targets are set to create an ethos of achievement so that every child realises their optimum potential. We reward success through a range of incentives, with a special emphasis on praise and encouragement. Equally, we intervene with a range of support strategies when pupils are not reaching their full potential.

Excellence and Enjoyment

Our school is very proud of its strong community. We value our partnership with the parish, parents, and carers and the wider community. We acknowledge the crucial role played by parents and carers as first educators. We also see parents and carers as an integral part of our school community and we appreciate their involvement in the life and the work of our school. We are very much part of the parish of St Pancras. We attach great importance to the close partnership that exists between home, school and the parish. We share the Word, worship together and give witness to our faith as a distinctive Catholic school. At St Pancras we aim to foster a love of learning to ensure we are using our God given gifts and being the very best that we can be at everything we do. We strive to maximise opportunities for all in our search for excellence in all that we do. We are always seeking creative approaches to motivate and inspire learning in order to harness and fulfil our full God-given potential. We believe we begin to equip our children with the ability to adapt to the ever changing needs of life in the modern world. We encourage our children to think of themselves as global citizens whilst preparing them to be responsible, aware citizens in our ever evolving multi-cultural society.

Listening to our Pupils

We listen closely to what our pupils say about the school. Our School Council (Reception-Year 6) provides a formal representative voice, but equally, individuals are encouraged to offer their views on everything from school meals to what makes a good lesson.

Discipline

The emphasis is on encouraging self-discipline and collective responsibility through our agreed school values. Lapses in discipline are dealt with quickly and appropriately. The school values (rules) are devised and agreed by the school family and consequently the fairness of the system is recognised. St Pancras Catholic Primary School is well-ordered and good discipline is a real strength.

A Listening School

We work in collaboration with parents and carers and encourage them to form a close link with staff in order to celebrate with us their child’s achievements and academic progress. Our parents and carers appreciate the fact that we keep them well informed and they are made to feel a part of the school family. Weekly newsletters go out on a Friday via email to ensure parents and carers are well informed about the school and events occurring. At St Pancras we have a thriving PTA.

Working with Parents and Carers

‘Disabled pupils and those with special educational needs make good progress. The standards they reach are above average.’

Environment

We have a modern, inspiring and dynamic learning environment. It is child centred and empowers independence. Lessons take place in a range of settings in and around the school grounds, from the prayer area to the art studio. Enrichment

The extensive range of extra-curricular activities offered to pupils continues to be a real success of our school. Please see our school website for the current range of clubs and enrichment opportunities available. Sporting Activities

Pupils at St Pancras Catholic Primary School participate in a wide range of sports both within the curriculum, and as extra curricular clubs. The school has gymnastics facilities on site and a large sports field at the end of De Montfort Road for games and sporting events. We recognise that sport should be enjoyed by children at every level, but we also appreciate the value of nurturing a natural and friendly competitive spirit in our children.

Life Outside the Classroom

‘Pupils who speak English as an additional language make outstanding progress because the teachers and other pupils help them become confident to try their new language skills, and value their contributions. The school makes excellent use of a wide range of partners outside of the school to help the pupils succeed.’
