LITURGY

VOCATION CHALICE

Then He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:27 – 28).

We are all aware of the need for vocations to the priesthood, the diaconate, and to the religious life. But sometimes we forget just how powerful praying for an increase in vocations can be. As a parish family we are experiencing first hand this need as we share our priest, Father Jim, with St. Dennis. Praying for vocations is

the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women who He is calling in a very special way. The purpose of the Chalice Ministry is to encourage families to pray and promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. The consecrated Chalice is a tangible reminder of this special intention for the Church. The 2nd Vatican Council instructs us that it is the job of the laity to pray for and support the raise up of vocations.

Sign up to bring the Chalice into your home to pray for vocations for a week. Visit the parish web site or call / text Alice Gaston at (302)670–7924 to sign-up.

SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS Monday, November 1,

SCHEDULE OF MASSES: St. Polycarp Church Vigil Mass, Sunday, October 31st, at 4 pm St. Dennis Church Mass, Monday, November 1st, at 12 pm (noon)

Because All Saints’ Day falls on a Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is removed but it remains a Holy Day. All Saints Day has been deemed important enough to be recognized as “Holy” and remains a great day to attend Mass whether at St. Polycarp, St. Dennis or elsewhere.

Another option is to watch the Mass on TV or online. (EWTN: https://www.ewtn.com/tv) or on The Basilica of the National Shrine of The Immaculate Conception’s website (https://www.nationalshrine.org/mass/).

PRAYINGG FORR THEE SOULSS INN PURGATORYY As we near the month of November, a subtle Catholic education reminder: According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation, but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification.”

There are numerous saints who have been privileged to have visions of Purgatory and who documented that the souls there cannot help themselves, only we can. This year, please consider the extra importance of using our All Souls envelope to help a soul gain entrance to heaven. All Souls Day is on Tuesday, November 2nd. Please remember that we can pray for the souls of those we love every day, not just on All Souls’ Day.

ADULT FAITH FORMATIONChange in Time

Jesus is trulyy present – in his Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity – in the Sacrament of the HHolyy Eucharist!!!

Did you realize that not all Catholics truly believe that?Perhaps you yourself are not quite sure about this truth. Or, maybe, you receive Holy Communion automatically, without truly thinking about or appreciating this Mystery of The Eucharist.

Now is your chance to explore this central reality of our faith. Come share with other members of our faith community on the next two Friday mornings (October 29th and November 5th) , at 10 am, in the Parish Library..

Questions? Contact Peggy at (302) 514 – 9913; [email protected]..

CCHRISTIANN FORMATION

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is starting again this weekend on Sunday, OOctoberr 24 during the 10:30am Mass. All children ages PreK-4th grade are welcome to attend. Masks must be worn. Children’s

Liturgy of the Word (CLoW) is a worship experience geared especially for their age level. It mirrors the worship experience of the larger community in an engaging and interactive style. This opportunity allows children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God's Word.

Children will be called to come forward before the First Reading. A catechist and assistant will lead the children to the hall. They will return to you after the General Intercessions. All catechists and assistants have a cleared background check.

We can use your help! Become involved in this wonderful ministry which will be offered twice a month.

Our St. Jude Bike-a-thon is this Sunday, OOctoberr 24 @ 1pm. Keep your fingers crossed for nice weather! We will be collecting donations at the doors after both Masses this

weekend. Help our children help the sick children at St. Jude’s Hospital. Together, we can all make a difference.

ALLL SAINT’SS PARADEE “TRUNKK ORR TREAT””

Come out and enjoy our All Saint’s Parade during PSR on Octoberr 31 at 9:00am. All children of the parish are welcome to attend. Children must dress as a saint and/or hold an object that represents their saint. Each child should wear a sign or tag saying what saint they are representing. After our Parade of Saints, the children will walk around to collect candy/goodies given out by the different ministries/committees and groups of our parish. If you would like to donate candy or hand out candy with your family, contact us (302)653-4101. This will be an exciting way to celebrate All Saints Day!

OPENN HOUSEE Have you ever “come to the other side” and strolled through our hallways, classrooms, meeting rooms, and chapel?? Here’s your opportunity! We are opening our doors on NNovemberr 7 after Mass, during the Agape. Come check out our upgraded LED lights, new blinds, new classroom saint statues, icons, and flags. Can you guess what flags we have displayed? Be sure to look at our beautiful bulletin boards, shiny floors, and clutter free/sanitized classrooms. Do you even know what our chapel looks like? We are excited for you to see where our children learn about and listen to God’s Word, where information discussed at meetings comes to light, and where adults gather to socialize, comfort each other in time of need, and pray together. We can’t wait to see you!!!

May God continue to bless everyone that helps to make our building a welcoming space for our Parish Family to grow and build relationships with God and each other. We are extremely blessed here at St. Polycarp to have so much involvement. Let’s continue to move forward and do all that we can to allow our parish to keep flourishing.

Autumn Blessings,

Erica Taylor
