“Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom does not belong to this world.” (John 18:36) How often do we put all our time and energy into building a kingdom here on earth, forgetting that life here is short? The real kingdom is in the next life. Yet, how much time and energy do we invest in working for that eternal kingdom?
Our Auction Committee is
hard at work preparing items for
this year’s Gala that will have
you raising that bid card like
nobody’s business! Whether it
is enjoying all-inclusive seats at
a Cardinal’s game or reserving
that special tent at the SSP Picnic, the auction will have
items for everyone. Auctioneers Steve Butz and Dave
Borgmeyer will lead Gala guests through the items while
offering their priceless humor. Dozens of goods and
services will also be available for your browsing pleasure
in the silent auction.
If you are interested in donating an item or service for
auction (tickets to a sporting event or stage production,
airline tickets, hotel room vouchers, restaurant gift cards,
a valuable item or service, or a special experience),
please get in touch with Bridgette or Ann Marie (contact
information below).
Tickets will be available for our Mega Cash, iPad Air
2, PlayStation 4, and quilt raffles after all Masses the
first weekend of December. And remember, we are
also accepting donations for our Wine Raffle. Purchase
wine worth at least $10 per bottle and leave it in the box
in the back of church, marked with your name and the
value of the wine. All donations are tax-deductible.

The choir will begin

Mass. They will be getting
ready for Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas.
NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!!!
Once again we find ourselves moving indoors and
looking out at the rapidly changing landscape that
surrounds us. The changing seasons have a way of
reminding us of the passing of time. We are also
reminded that the beauty of each season is freely given
to us by our creator. The vibrant colors of the fall season
are also a reminder to us that it is the season in which
our country sets aside a special time to give thanks. As
Thanksgiving Day approaches we are once again made
aware of the blessings in our lives. Let us make this day
a time of reflection and prayer. Like the seasons of the
year, we have many blessings that we take for granted
throughout the year. This is a time to remember and a
time to bring to prayer our deepest heart felt
appreciation and thanks for all the blessings that we
experience daily.
Wishing you and your family a
joyful and prayer filled Thanksgiving
celebration.
Peace,
Fr. Ron

Heart moms and dads
ACE Cards
Sean arrived six weeks early: a tiny little gift from God,
a preemie whose heart and respiration rates would
require extra monitoring, so Mom and Dad hunkered
down for an extended hospital stay.
Ten days after his birth, something was wrong. Sean's
heart was not regulating the flow of blood properly.
Surgery was required - and immediately. The next
available slot was the following day. The parents
absorbed the news and took turns holding vigil that night
next to their infant son. Mom took the first shift. Dad went
to the family waiting area, took two bites of a muffin and
proceeded to stare blankly at it for what seemed like an
eternity. Dad remembers:
"I became aware of a couple sitting near me; they
were parents as well, and their little boy was across the
hall from Sean. I could not muster a smile, never mind the
usual pleasantries.
"I did not know it at the time, but these parents, along
with the other families in the cardiac intensive unit, would
teach me more about parenting than any book possibly
could. It was here I found the patience and care of
parents under incredible stress. It was here I learned
firsthand about the gift of new life and just how fragile it
can be. It was here that I witnessed a kind of love that
was altogether new to me.
"Later that day, a stuffed animal arrived courtesy of
the parents I met in the waiting area, along with a card
that welcomed us into the world of 'heart moms and
dads.' I became a silent admirer of this couple, whose
child had undergone multiple surgeries. They were just
across the hall, and though I tried to give them privacy,
my gaze kept wondering in their direction, peeking
between the curtains to see how experienced parents
handle this sort of stress. I could see they had it together.
They knew the purpose of each IV line and tube; they
asked the doctors spot-on questions."
Sean's surgery was a success. Unfortunately, Sean's
"one and done" operation and excellent prognosis were
not the norm. As they prepared to transfer Sean out of the
intensive care unit, a feeling of guilt crept into his parents'
sense of relief. Their son was doing better, but so many
children were still struggling.
"In my final conversation with the couple across the
hall," Sean's dad writes, "they could sense my mixed
feelings. Yet they were so positive and happy for us.
Rejoice in your son, they said, and pray for ours.

added safety of not having to use

them early to give as gifts. The ordering DEADLINE for
guaranteed delivery before Christmas is Dec. 13.
Orders may be placed after this date but we cannot
guarantee they will be here for Christmas.
NEW!! We now have $5.00 cards for St. Louis Bread

"In a place in which each child had a wounded heart,
we were overwhelmed by the love and generosity of
strangers, of 'heart moms and dads' who modeled the
most important lessons to two new parents." ["Faith in Focus: My first days as a father in the I.C.U." by Anthony J.
Zavagnin,America, June 8-15, 2015.]
╬ This is the kingdom of Christ in our midst: "heart
moms and dads" who console and teach, who rejoice
and grieve with each other, united by that
unconditional and complete love of a parent for a
child. The kingdom of Jesus is not found in the
world's centers of power but within human hearts; it
is built not by deals among the brokers of that power
but by the hands of faithful and generous souls;
Christ reigns neither by influence nor wealth but by
compassion, humility and justice. We who have been
baptized into the life, death and resurrection of Christ
are called to build and maintain that kingdom in our
own time and place. The "kingship" of Jesus is
realized only in our embracing a vision of humankind
as a family made in the image of God, a vision of one
another as brothers and sisters in Christ, a vision of
the world centered in the hope and compassion
taught by Christ, the King of "hearts." ╬ From: Connections; November 2015

electronics. Either would be a fantastic
Christmas gift for a loved one – or for
yourself! One is a pair of Beats Solo2
Wired On-Ear Headphones (valued at
$139) and the other is the Beats “Pill” 2.0
Wireless Portable
Speaker (valued at $119). These
are high-quality ways to enjoy your
favorite tunes. Each item has its own raffle. Chances
are $5 each or five tickets for $20. They will be sold
after all Masses from November 14-15 until the
drawing on December 6 at our Donut Sunday social.
