Dear Parishioners,
The Lord says in this Sunday’s gospel: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field." That is to say, the treasure isn't always so obvious. But that doesn't mean it isn't there. It just means that we have to dig a little bit to find it. We have to take away whatever layers of dirt or sand which may be preventing us to see the priceless grace of God and bring it back into the daylight.
So where is our treasure buried? What, if anything, is concealing the full flourishing of our faith? Is it buried by the demands of work or daily errands? Is our faith hidden beneath the weight of complaints, disappointments or sorrow? Have we covered it over with false "treasures" that only give us fleeting joy? Or have we never even given our faith the chance to come into the sunlight at all?
Whatever it is for each one of us, we should resolve to recover the treasure that lies beneath our feet. By giving ourselves to Christ, encountering him regularly through prayer, Scripture study, and the sacraments, we too can experience the joy of that blessed merchant who, by selling all he had, truly became blessed.
On another topic, I have met with several Parish coordinators and the organizations thus far: The Liturgy team, the Finance Committee, the Parish Pastoral Council, the Spanish lectors, the Golden Hearts, the Bereavement team, the HandMades, the Choirs, the Monday’s men, the Money counters, the Ministers of Care, the Spanish Prayer group and the Culinaires. There are still other organizations that I hope to meet during summer and fall.
It is encouraging to see how many volunteers come together and be instruments of God’s mercy through the different ministries of the parish. There are always opportunities for parishioners to join any of St. Stephen’s groups and be able to find the many blessings of serving one another.
For this reason, I ask you to save the date for the 3rd Annual Testimonial dinner on September 29. On this day we want to recognize some of the volunteers of the parish and at the same time spend time with fellow parishioners by supporting this fundraiser which includes a dinner and dance.
We have included a form in today’s bulletin for you to please fill out and nominate parishioners who you think have exceptional qualities in serving others at the parish. Anyone can be that parishioner. However, we want to acknowledge some of them every year at our Testimonial dinner.

El Señor en el evangelio de este domingo nos dice: “El reino de los cielos es como un tesoro escondido en un
campo”. Esto significa que el tesoro no siempre está evidente, pero tampoco que no esta allí. Lo que se nos invita es a cavar un poco más y encontrarlo. Tenemos capas de polvo o arena que nos puede estar evitando
ver la valiosa gracia de Dios y poderla traer a la luz del día.
¿Dónde está el tesoro escondido? Será que ¿habrá algo que no deja florecer nuestra fe? Ó será que
¿estará enterrado por las preocupaciones de cada día? ¿Será que nuestra fe está escondida por el peso de
nuestros fracasos, reclamos o dolor? ¿Habremos cubierto la fe con tesoros falsos que nos dan solo una
alegría pasajera? Ó ¿será que no le hemos dado oportunidad a nuestra fe de que salga a la luz pública?
Cualquiera que será la razón, debemos determinarnos a destapar lo que está debajo de nuestros pies.
Debemos darnos a Cristo y encontrarlo regularmente en la oración, el estudio de la Biblia y en los
Sacramentos. Incluso podemos ser como ese mercader que lo vendió todo y llegó a ser muy
bendecido.
Pasando a otro tema, ya me he reunido con varios grupos de la parroquia como el
Concejo de Liturgia, el Concejo Pastoral, el Concejo Financiero, los lectores en español,
los Golden Hearts, el grupo de ayuda en funerales, los que tejen a mano, los
hombres del lunes, los que cuentan la colecta, los ministros de enfermos, el grupo
de oración carismático y los coordinadores de Culinaires. Hay muchos otros grupos con quienes
espero reunirme en el verano y en el otoño.
Es animador ver cuántos voluntarios se reúnen para ser instrumentos de la misericordia de Dios por medio
de los diversos ministerios. Siempre hay oportunidades para vincularse a un grupo de St. Stephen y encontrar
las grandes bendiciones de servir a los demás.
Por esta razón los invito a que reserven el día del 29 de septiembre que es la Cena Testimonial, en la cual se reconoceremos a los voluntarios y pasaremos un
momento de alegría alrededor de la cena y baile.
Hemos incluido una forma en el boletín de hoy, para que por favor la llene y sugiera algún feligrés que usted vea tiene cualidades ejemplares de servir a otros en la
parroquia. Cualquiera podría ser, pero queremos reconocer a algunos cada año en esta cena
testimonial.

The Testimonial Dinner is an opportunity to socialize with your fellow parishioners and family members while supporting this fundraiser for St. Stephen Church. At this event, we want to recognize every year volunteers who have exceptional qualities in serving others at the parish. For this reason, we ask you to please consider nominating a volunteer (Individual or Couple) who meets the following criteria. Nominees should be a parishioner who regularly participates at Sunday Mass Nominees should also be a volunteer who has demonstrated a commitment to St Stephen Parish. Nominees should show support for various parish events/functions. Nominees should have at least 3 years of involvement. You can nominate more than one volunteer, so please use different forms for each one of them, complete it and please return this form to the Parish Center or even drop it in the collection basket before August 11. Por esta razón les pedimos que consideren nominar a un voluntario (individuo o pareja) que tiene el siguiente criterio.
