nies in the design and construction of tank and full processing systems for the chemical,

pharmaceutical and food industries. All the en-gineering and construction steps are carried out by

means of the most advanced software assisted technolo-gies, always taking into account our customers requirements

and establishing, whenever required, a very closed co-operation with the companies that are meant to supply the whole plant. Bring-

ing their own experience and skills to the service of our customers, our technicians study and work out the most suitable solutions

to fully satisfy even the most delicate processing require-ments in the full respect of nowadays environmental

issues. Simpex Tech AG boosts the highest effi-ciency and reliability level and all its products

are made from first-class materials by means of the most advanced and in-

    novative technologies.

    Agitator Visco-JET

Visco-JET proves beyond any doubt that, for successful agitation, it is not the speed thats decisive, but the technique. Its particular strength lies in the special geometry of the conical agitator elements: with its cleverly-designed spatial and angular relationships, the agitator ensures an optimum mixing process in a very short time, even at the lowest rotation speeds. We have proven this technology in a wide range of industries. It is flexible, reduces costs and guarantees high-quality results.

cause...Accelerated laminar flows at the cone exit and the reverse turbulence created by dynamic pressure at the cone entrance interact as the agitator rotates, generating high-momentum mixing movements.

...and effectExtremely material-friendly and highly efficient agitator processes with very little energy expenditure are now possible. This applies particularly to tanks with very high volumes.

    During my experience with international

companies, I have always been asked by

entrepreneurs to provide the secret of a successful

business. However, it is very hard to de ne the

perfect formula for the success of a company.

On the one hand, each company entails its own

peculiarities, and thus it is required to follow a speci c path in order to

succed in its core business; on the other hand, there exist many circumstances

which determine whether a business can become successful or not.

Personally, I got the chance to meet many companies, and I discovered a

common background among those which had a respectable success on the

international level: each of these companies collected a great network of

contacts, which allowed to improve their commercial network.

FINANCIAL SERVICES - The nancial services cluster does not only

include banks and insurances, but also specialised nancial services provid-

ers. Of the people employed in the nancial sector throughout Switzerland,

about 40% can be attributed to the nancial centre of Zurich. The nan-

cial and economic crisis resulted in major changes in the nancial sector

throughout the world. Switzerland and Zurich did not emerge unscathed

from this crisis. Nevertheless, the situation is better than in many competing

    locations.

The nancial sector is very heterogeneous as regards company structures and

its orientation towards local or international markets and clients. From glo-

bal players like the major banks Credit Suisse and UBS, the re- insurer Swiss

Re, the insurer Zurich Financial Services to niche providers (that offer social

investments for instance) through to the locally oriented trustee, a suitable

nancial services provider can be found for every client in the Zurich area.

Several education institutions, various associations and interest groups sup-

    plement the cluster.

    Canton of Zurich,where sustainability

and development meetThe Canton of Zurich is renewed for its business background, as the Swiss core

of stock-market, and for its luxury shops. But What if it represents much more than this? Canton of Zurich reveals its clusters and green heart.

T he canton of Zurich spreads out over 1,729 square kilometres including the Feuerthalen commune in the North, the Ht-ten commune in the South, the Fischenthal commune in the East and the Niederweningen commune in the West. Zurich is Switzerlands most populous canton thanks to a population of 1,9 million.

The metropolitan area of Zurich is often classi ed as of the European en-

gine. This classi cation due to different features that distinguishes the area

(economic performances , decision - making processes and controlling func-

tions, innovation, international transports and so on) as a place of primary

importance at European level as well as at Swiss level. The high quantity of

workplaces due also to the presence in the region of various clusters, condi-

tion that clearly illustrate the economic breadth of Zurich Canton. Amongst

other things, this sector diversity contributed to cushioning the most recent

economic crisis. A brief introduction of each signi cant cluster follows.

  • 12 | 2012 | 02 |S2B MAGAZINE 13S2B MAGAZINE | 02 | 2012 |

The Cluster is highly involved in continuous research and activities, that

also imply a high commitment about its activities accountability. This is

carried out through a high informational ow of news, where information

about accomplishments are published and accessible by the audience.

For example in 2009 - 20120 the website of the Zurich nancial centre at

www.finanzplatz-zuerich.ch was newly designed, providing information on

regulation and supervision of the nancial centre as well as on the broad

range of training in the specialist area of banking, nance and insurance.

Since 2010 the Portrait of the nancial centre of Zurich is also available.

The Business and Economic Development Division of the Canton of Zurich

as well as the city will continue cluster activities in the future, guaranteeing a

safe area where to act both for Swiss and foreigners characters.

LIFE SCIENCES - The Zurich economic area can look back on a

long tradition as a medical technology location, but has also managed to

position itself as an internationally leading knowledge and business location

in the life sciences area over the past decades. This fact is illustrated by the

high concentration of innovative companies, the growing number of prom-

ising spin-offs from the university area and numerous regional head of ces

and representations of international life sciences corporations based in the

In the photo above the headquarterof Credit Suisse bank at the Paradeplatz in Zurich and in the previous page an aerial view of Zurich from the top of Mount Uetliberg and the lakeof Zurich in the distance.

    Zurich metropolitan area.

Attributed to life sciences are the experimental natural

sciences (bio- logy, chemistry and physics) with inte-

grated methods of mathematics and computer science

as well as clinical medicine. Biotechnology - or the use

of organisms and cells - plays a central role in health

care, in agriculture, in nutrition and in environmental

sciences. In the health care sector, in particular, there

is still lots of potential, be it economic or in the imple-

mentation of ndings from basic research in the elds

of medicine, products and services. Life sciences com-

panies are primarily active in the areas of pharmaceuti-

cals, biotechnology, medical technology and food tech-

    nology.

Medical technology is the main group within the life sci-

ences sector in the canton of Zurich. More than 40% of

employees and about 20% of companies are active in

    this group.

A comparison with selected cantons shows that there are

more workplaces employed in the life sciences eld in

Zurich than in Berne, Basel or the Bassin Lmanique,

Even if Canton Bern is celebrated for its medical clus-

ter, Zurich is the ideal headquarter for new companies

which are mainly established in the university environ-

ment (spin-off). The majority of these biotechnology

and medical technology companies are still in the re-

search & development phase. This means that a lot of

innovative potential is created, but so far this has minor

impact on value added and employment gures.

ICT FIELD - The ICT generated 5.5% of Zu-

richs GDP in 2008. The number of jobs rose by nearly

10% in three years. The high proportion of services is

striking. Over the last years Zurich has established itself

as a real ICT centre. And the signi cance of the sector

continues to grow. According to the Swiss workforce

survey, about 30% of all computer experts in Zurich are

employed by banks and insurance companies.

Even though the nancial sector absorbs a considerable

number of ICT experts there is as well a high number of

  • 14 | 2012 | 02 |S2B MAGAZINE 15S2B MAGAZINE | 02 | 2012 |

highly innovative SMEs in Zurich. For instance doodle

a startup founded by an ETH graduate. Or the game

growing number of game developers like Giants Soft-

ware that developed the award winning farming simu-

lator. Not only the outstanding quality of life but also

the availability of quali ed workforce and the top-class

education attracted global players such Google, Micro-

soft and Disney Research to Zurich.

Since the ICT market is set to lose thousands of quali-

ed workers through retyrement one of the focal points

for the coming years will be the availability of quali ed

    workforce.

A further focal topic will remain the innovation or tech-

nology transfer, so that even more start-ups can emerge

from the university environment in the future and exist-

ing companies can design their business processes more

ef ciently. Due to the high density of ICT networks and

organizations, the Division of Business and Economic

Development will continue to accompany and support

    projects predominantly from these areas.

CREATIVE INDUSTRY - The culture and crea-

tive industries summaries those companies that oper-

ate on a commercial basis in the area of the creation,

production, distribution and medial dissemination of

cultural and creative goods and services.

In October 2010 the Division of Business and Economic

Development of the Canton of Zurich and the Of ce

for Economic Development of the City of Zurich pre-

sented the third Zurich creative industries report in co-

operation with ZHdK. (Zrcher Hochschule der Kn-

ste). The creative industries thrive like no other sector

on the keenness of its representatives to experiment.

Several highly enterprising players develop parallel

activities in addition to their business activities and in-

volving their networks, which may develop into a busi-

    ness idea over time.

One example are the internationally known Freitag

brothers, who do not simply manufacture and sell bags

from lorry tarps, but have also created a tourist magnet

in the Freitag tower and additionally initiate and sup-

port events such as the Bicycle Film Festival Zurich and

Creative Morning Zurich. Finally the representatives of

he creative industry contribute strongly to the rich cul-

tural and gastronomic choice Zurich has to offer.

TOURISM AS A DRIVER OF ZURICHS ECONOMY -

Tourism in Zurich mainly derives from business activities.

Business tourism plays a key role, making up two thirds of

all hotel overnight stays in the canton of Zurich. The remain-

ing third comes from leisure tourism. However the canton

of Zurich is not perceived as a classic holiday destination,

thus it is still the biggest tourism region in Switzerland.

About 13% of all hotel overnight stays in Switzerland

are in Zurich. What is more interesting is the variety of

tourism taking place in the Canton: business trips go to-

gether with city breaks, congress marketing, and green

travelling. The latter is a sign of the high commitment

    towards sustainable activities.

Environmental sustainability is becoming a particularly

important pillar. The tourism organisation was certi-

ed as Switzer- lands rst climate-neutral tourism or-

    ganisation in early 2010.

CLEANTECH - It is dif cult to express the sig-

ni cance of the cleanteach area in gures because the

sector is not clearly de ned.

The analysis of the cleantech companies in Zurich

shows that there are no distinctive nuclei or specialised

subareas with a major accumulation of businesses or

jobs. A certain nucleus formation can, however, be seen

in the cities of Zurich and Winterthur.

The energy and climate policy targets (which include

the reduction of CO2-per-head emissions from 6 to 2.2

tonnes per year by 2050 in the canton of Zurich) require

the tapping of major ef ciency potentials in energy us-

age and the use of renewable energies. The Federations

global contributions to cantons in the energy area were

used for blanket subsidies towards measures to increase

energy ef ciency and use renewable energies.

The cleantech area is estimated to have a strongly grow-

ing market volume globally. Switzerland is therefore in

an excellent starting position: business and politics have

embraced cleantech as a promising topic and work is

being conducted to strengthen performance at various

levels. The declared aim is - both at national as well as

international level - to participate in this development as

much as possible with the cleantech cluster activities.

AEROSPACE - Aerospace includes the sub-

markets of aviation and space ight.

In addition to aviation and space ight, this sector is

also increasingly developing markets in transport,

logistics, positioning and building security. The Swiss

    aerospace cluster ( www.aviatikcluster.ch ) covers these

sub-markets as a national sector network.

The manufacturers and suppliers in this internationally

oriented market are subject to strict criteria and must

be certi ed. Many smaller SMEs in this sector do not

attend international air and space fairs, predominantly

for resource and cost reasons. By cooperating with oth-

er European partner organisations, the Swiss aerospace

cluster aims to enable companies to attend B2B events

and company trips as well as appearances at interna-

tional aerospace fairs at a low cost.

ZURICH GREEN REGION - Zrich Green Region is one of the 8

projects developed by the Metropolitan Conference at the end of 2009.

It concerns the development of the Zurich Metropolitan area into a green

zone, thanks to the eligible high cleantech processes, with the aim of estab-

lishing a wide network of highly technologically developed and green ori-

    ented enterprises.

A particular focus is on the project of sustainable housing, which includes

    concrete projects to be realized.

In short, according to the project of this metropolitan conference, Zurich

should become a green region and be positioned as such. The aim of the

project is for cleantech companies to be increasingly established and ourish

in the metropolitan area on the basis of this green foundation. This aim is

to be achieved by recording and strengthening the location qualities of the

metropolitan area in the cleantech sector. A series of speci c measures is going

to be implemented to strengthen the metropolitan area as a green region.

THE PASSPORT - This tool needs to be taken into consideration

in relation to the system that was established around Start2Business

    Start2Business ( www.starttobusiness.com ) was created in 2008, as an online

platform that provides dedicated room for companies that wants to introduce

their projects. There was not an initial classi cation of those who had the

the existence of different roles, in order to provide few advantageous rules to

    the platform functioning.

In this framework, companies on the platform distinguish themselves as

Member Network (everybody has access, a basic pro le is provided) Business

Starter (point of reference for the users together with the administrators),

Service Network (corporate pro les that provide services to the platform

users) and Premium Network ( made by those company that introduce a

unique business project and wants to take it at an international level).

Today this roles animate the platforms, the Premium Networker introduce

their high standard projects in a dedicated common room, and the other

users orbit to them, in the business republic.

Welcome to SwitzerlandA made-to-measureinsurance policyfor expatsNationale Suisse, an innovative international Swiss insurance company, presents an insurance policy created especially for people moving to Switzerland.

Stefano Schnell, Sales Manager from the Ticino general agency Nationale Suisse, explains in a bit more detail.

Lets start with an introduction to Nationale SuisseThe Nationale Suisse group was established in 1883 in Winterthur, but

now has its headquarters in Basel. There are over 1900 employees working

in 60 agencies in Switzerland in addition to Spain, Belgium, Germany,

Liechtenstein, Italy, Malaysia and the cities of Istanbul and Miami. Since

it is an independent Swiss company, Nationale Suisse has a solid nancial

base, and a lean, exible organizational structure. The groups strategy is

to continue consolidating its high growth levels and leadership as a niche

insurer in interesting markets and customer segments. Our aim is to satisfy

our customers by offering them high-quality products and services geared

to the traditional Swiss traits of reliability, professional expertise and

    honesty.

What does your Welcome Package include?Transfer to another country always raises a number of different issues

and involves all kinds of bureaucratic obligations. Questions such as what

are the differences between Switzerland and my home country?, what do

I need to consider when moving to Switzerland?, what do I have to do

to formally register in the country?, how does the social security system

work?, what do I have to do with my car and driving licence? are all

normal and require the assistance of an expert who can provide the right

    advice.

Nationale Suisse, a leader in expat-related matters in Switzerland, has

therefore created a complete insurance policy to cover the initial period of

an expats working life and residence in our country. Expats will receive

optimal insurance cover for a full 60 days in addition to our consultancy

services on all the issues that newcomers have to face at the start. Remember

that about 135,000 people immigrated to Switzerland in 2010.

  • 42 | 2012 | 02 |S2B MAGAZINE 43S2B MAGAZINE | 02 | 2012 |

What exactly are the advantages to this cover? We should start by saying that the Welcome Package only costs 1 a day

for single person and 1.5 a day for families. It can be bought online and

paid by credit card and provides cover for the following: removal, including

all damage that could occur when moving to Switzerland; personal

liability insurance; household contents insurance; motorists legal expenses

insurance and personal legal expenses insurance. You will be guaranteed

complete consultancy services on the spot everywhere in Switzerland in the

    event of damage or accidents.

All of this for 60 days.

What are the advantages for a company that hires employees from abroad and offers them the Welcome Package? There are certainly a number of bene ts to both the company and the

employee. The company will have more productive staff since they dont

have to worry about bureaucratic formalities and can concentrate directly

on their work. In addition the company itself or the new employee can

receive direct advice on any potential queries that may arise. This is a stable

and ef cient type of collaboration since it pre-empts any problematic areas

and meets the requirements of companies and newcomers to Switzerland.

Employees will thus perceive the company as an attractive employer that is

interested not only in their professional abilities but also in their well-being.

There are obviously no contractual limitations to this service.

On the other hand, the employee can rest assured as the rst 60 days in

Switzerland are covered for all eventualities relating to furniture removal,

personal liability insurance, personal legal protection and household goods

    insurance.

Finally, the expats know that they have an expert partner to support and

advise them on any questions or concerns about life in the new country

such as driving licences, or importing and registering a car.

    Are you interested?

Please contact us for any further information.

An advertorial, an advertising, can boast an added

value if offered to a wide audience, but your business

project can reach the interest of even more users and

succeed when introduced to a precise target, following

the model of a publication, taking advantage of a space

that introduces companies as projects to be showed to a

    unique and selected target.

This is the reason why Start2Business Magazine was

born; to provide room to the entrepreneurs and to those

who have a business idea, but that have dif culties in

    communicate choosing the right channels.

The magazine offers a precious chest, which acts as a

collector of ideas and projects, the most unique, and

that will propose them to a selected target, as well as

circulating in the most important business events,

    both Swiss and international.

The presence of business projects divided into topics is

the core of the magazine, which will be addressed time

to time, to a different audience, according to the topic

of the project (Pull your project out section) and of the

other projects, divided in more than 30 dedicated pages.

In the pages that follow, you will discover the core of

our magazine, going through projects of renewable

    energies, food, art and design.

    Enjoy your reading!

A CHANCE TO PRESENT YOUR PROJECT - Nowadays it is obvious how

new media cover a key role in business development of the enterprises be-

longing to different elds; starting to the craftsman, going through SMEs,

reaching the most predictable strategies of MNEs.

The goldsmith man, will have at disposal the Facebook fan page, created

by the young co-worker , the wine company will build up an e - commerce

space, where to present its products and probably it will invest on an adver-

tising campaign in order to show up in the trade magazines, while the big

holding which face the Eastern reality, will hire employs able to structure

social media marketing strategies, analysing the tools already adapted in the

    target countries.

It is clear why companies are approaching the web dimension, also in order

to carry on outright business operations.

This magazine can be identi ed as the hardcopy version of the

corporate business network Start2Business, a tool that meet the philosophy

of using the web 2.0 world, in order to demolish the communicational bar-

riers. However, the web tool can occasionally be in contrast with the deve-

lopment of our business project, of our business idea, in contrast with the

expansion of our activity, if used as the only means for the development.

Our message will reach a big amount of browsers, however the major wont

be ready to receive the news, the noti cation of our event, the launch of the

    new product.

This is the reason why in certain cases, traditional media, come into play, the

tools that we can touch with our hands, lea ng through them and on which

we have time to re ect and analyze longer than how a mouse click allow us,

encouraging us to change screen, information, history.

    highlight your business projects!

S fera Engineering is the creator of a system for the total dismantling and recycling of tyres, that allows to recycle every single part of them. All the different parts that constitute a tyre are broken up. In fact, one of the main issues in tyres dismantling remains, when it is applied,

the dismantling of the different parts in a differentiated way.

One of the main issues in tyres dismantling is the dif culty in disassembling

the pieces that are part of it: natural and synthetic rubber, steel circlet,

carton black and silica, metal and textile strings, chemical agents.

HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS - The P.F.U. (or other rubber),

loaded on the roller and/or loading device, is guided

arrives in the granulating area, where the fraction

device, which is composed by an injection system and/

or a high pressure gun (1800/2300 bar) and a fraction

element (HO), uses particular angles. The P.F.U. is

an impinged concept by thousands of high pressure

droplets which are fractioning the rubber components

(consisting of vulcanized and non vulcanized), non

rubber-like parts (steel and textile cord).

    The fractioning system follows mechanical/electrical

axes (X,Y,Z - three dimensional) driven by an

    electronic software. (PATENTED)

After being fractionized and reduced to granulate

(value imposed to the system), the P.F.Us. are collected

by a device located in the inferior zone of the protected

area, which contains water and a lower belt that

transports the rubber granulate ( or powder ) to the

drying area. In this area the rubber granulate is dried

by a powerful suction system, the water residuals are

pulled out of the drying area, while the rubber remains

on the tape. Contemporarily, hot air (55/60C) is

circulated by fans (150-250 m/h) with low pressure

avoiding granulates overheating. The temperature is

not so high to provoke an overheating of the rubber.

The dried rubber is transported by a special belt

    to a hopper; big-bags (1,25 m) are located

under the hopper in a movable structure,

which can contain 2-3 big-bags, in order

to collect the granulate (or powder).

There is a separation system for foreseen

    different granulate types. This productive

process allows the transformation with an

    ecological system. Production takes place

with a cold system avoiding the emission of

dioxin in the air, in fact the system does not

    need ltering unit.

ECO-PNEUMORUBBER SYSTEM - This system consists of

a series of various rollers that, is guiding, rubber

elements (tyres or components) into treatment zone.

These can be used tyres (P.F.U.) or vulcanized rubber

or non vulcanized rubber components. Generally the
