Well done to the students who had an afternoon of fun and games at the Silver Pop-up Reward. Students played games such as captain ball, tunnel ball, novelty relays and finished off the afternoon with a rewarding icy pole. Congratulations to all our students who showed their Strong and Smart attitude. National Sorry Day offered the opportunity for us to acknowledge and reflect on the impact of the policies of forcible removal on Australia's indigenous populations. Each class learnt the song Stand Together’ by Australian Songwriter Paul Bonner Jones and invited our parents and community to join us in singing together at a whole school assembly. Students have also worked together to complete an art project for National Reconciliation week. Pop into the canteen to see this on display. Well done to our students who competed in the first round of the Premiers Debating Challenge last week against Frederickton. Our team argued for the topic ‘students who get better grades at school should get more school holidays’. Unfortunately they did not win the debate nevertheless they developed valuable skills ready for their next round against Crescent Head. What a busy week for our senior students. Tomorrow Years 5 and 6 are heading off to Melville High School to participate in the STEM Robotics Day. This is a great opportunity for our students to experience various technologies and their educational implications, as they complete challenges against the local Macleay schools. Then, on Thursday 7th June, they are heading north to Coffs Harbour for the GRIP leadership conference. Students will develop skills that concentrate specifically on training student leaders for their role as SCHOOL LEADERS. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help with transport. This Friday 8 th June our whole school has been invited to join with other local schools in Scotts Head to celebrate World Ocean Day. This has been developed in partnership with Unkya Local Aboriginal Lands Council. Students will be transported by bus. Please see specific information contained in the permission note which is due tomorrow. Next week, the CWA Poland International Day will be held at Stuarts Point Community Hall on 14 th June at 1pm. Some of our students will be performing and all parents are welcome to attend. Claim the date: On the 21 st June we will be holding our annual Athletics Carnival. The carnival will be held on school grounds and we look forward to seeing our fabulous community members come along and cheer our students along, as they give it their all on the day. Remember to check out the latest photos and events on our school website. www.stuartspt-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Thanks for your continued support. Tonya M Worling

Term 2 - Week 6 4

th June 2018

Life at SPPS is always on the go with a range of exciting programs and activities for students and parents alike to be involved in.

We began Families Week with Yr 2/3/4’s whole class cook-up for Kids in the Kitchen. It was an enormous task with many foods on offer. We started off with pumpkin soup, accompanied by damper, then vegetable egg slice and salad, followed by lemon pudding with fruit, cream and ice-cream. Banana smoothies were also part of this epic meal. We made use of pumpkins and salad vegetables from the school vegetable garden and had some wonderful volunteer mums, Sonya and Cilla, to help out with the groups and the washing up that followed.

Congratulations to Olivia, Tahla, Kimberly and Kyla who participated in the Families Week poster competition, 'Strong families, strong communities’.

A huge thank you to all those who came along to have a cuppa at our Biggest Morning Tea. It was a very successful day with students donating lots of yummy cakes and slices to sell. We raised over $85 to be donated to the Cancer Council. Once again many thanks as we could not run these days without the valued support of our school community.

Each class learnt the song ‘Stand Together’ by Australian Songwriter Paul Bonner Jones and invited our parents and community to join us in singing together at a whole school assembly.

This Friday 8th June our whole school has been invited

to join with other local schools in Scotts Head to celebrate World Ocean Day. This has been developed in partnership with Unkya Local Aboriginal Lands Council. Students will be transported by bus. Please see specific information contained in the permission note which is due tomorrow.

Next week, the CWA Poland International Day will be held at Stuarts Point Community Hall on 14

th June

at 1pm. Some of our students will be performing and all parents are welcome to attend.

Claim the date: On the 21st June we will be holding our

annual Athletics Carnival. The carnival will be held on school grounds and we look forward to seeing our fabulous community members come along and cheer our students along, as they give it their all on the day.

Minor Excursions Travel

Thank you to those parents who assist with student travel for minor excursions.

If travelling by private vehicle, all drivers must (prior to excursion) provide office staff with evidence of:

Current driver’s licence Current Registration Papers Mobile number for communication

And the school office must hold a current (calendar year) prohibited persons declaration signed by the driver and any adult passengers.

PLEASE NOTE: children under 10 MUST NOT RIDE in the front seat of a car with passenger airbags. Children under 7 must have an approved child restraint fitted if travelling by car. This is not required for bus travel but parents MUST be provided with the option of providing an approved restraint for bus travel.

Many thanks to all families who ensure that their children are dressed in full school uniform each day.

With winter fast approaching students require a maroon jumper for cooler days. Please use the P&C

uniform order form if you require one. Also please remember to label your child’s jumper as we usually

“adopt” many nameless lost jumpers as winter progresses.

Messages

All Government and non-Government schools across Australia are required to participate annually in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). All Australian schools will collect data on their students who are receiving adjustments to meet additional learning and support needs in accordance with their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. This data will be provided to the Australian Government to assist in the development of a consistent, national picture of the education needs of students with disability. The data provided to the Australian Government by the NSW Department of Education and Communities is provided in such a way that it cannot be used to identify any individual student or school. General information about the national data collection can be found on the Australian Government Department of Education and Training website at http://education.gov.au/fact-sheets-nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability or alternatively there are Fact Sheets in the office.

2/3/4

Opening our Eyes to Open Ended Maths Tasks In 2/3/4 this term, students have been investigating Maths in different ways.

Students have been undertaking a variety of open ended tasks to understand that Mathematical questions don’t always have just one answer.

Parent Information

PARENT HELPERS / VOLUNTEERS SIGN ON PROCEDURES

It is vital that all parents / volunteers / visitors / helpers within our school follow our sign on procedures.

All parents and visitors to our school should use the main entrance via the footpath at the front of our school in Banksia Street. On arrival at school, all visitors should report to the office so that staff are aware of their presence in the school. All visitors should sign the visitors’ book and collect a volunteer’s badge to be worn throughout the time you are helping or volunteering in the school (this does not apply when you drop or pick your child up at the beginning or the end of the school day or special occasions such as assemblies, sports carnivals and open day.)

It is also important that all helpers and volunteers have a current WWCC or signed Declaration Appendix 5 and Code of Conduct Agreement. These forms are available at the office and need to be renewed every twelve months. If you are unsure if you have completed one, please check with Robyn. These procedures are in place to ensure the safety of everyone within our school community.

Everyone should adhere to appropriate Codes of Conduct when at school which are intended to ensure that students, staff, parents and visitors are not subjected to behaviours that wound their feelings, arouse anger, resentment, disgust or outrage. The aim is: To ensure all visitors to the school conduct themselves in an appropriate manner To ensure that students, staff, parents and other visitors are not subjected to aggressive, hostile or violent

behaviours. To ensure the rights of students, teachers and parents are respected and upheld.

You should note that entry onto the school grounds, or attendance at school events, is a privilege not a right. Failure to abide by this may result in the Inclosed Lands Act being invoked.

Parents who wish to drop lunches off during the school day need to be reminded to leave them at the office. Your child can then be called to the office to collect their lunch.

Why do we have to implement such procedures: Under our WH&S obligations we need to ensure the safety of everyone at Stuarts Point Public School. It is becoming increasingly difficult to do this when we have so many people wandering around our site. I urge you all to take some responsibility in making our job a little easier. Please come directly to the school office and sign the visitors’ book when you come onto the school grounds. You will then be given a visitor’s badge to identify yourself. The following procedures are taken from our ‘Code of Conduct for Parents and Visitors Policy’.

All volunteers must report to the office.

All volunteers must complete WWCC or signed Declaration Appendix 5 and Code of Conduct Agreement.

All volunteers must sign the visitors’ book and wear a badge.

Volunteers are not to enter the administration area of the office unless permission has been granted.

All student information is to remain confidential as part of the Department of Education’s guidelines.

No helper will be responsible for disciplining the students. This is the responsibility of teachers. Any problems should be reported to the class teacher.

Volunteers are to provide a positive and professional role model to students at all times. The school is a smoke and alcohol free zone and bad language will not be tolerated.

Out of Bounds Areas

In the interests of confidentiality and school security, the staffroom (during recess and lunch) and administration area of the office is out of bounds to helpers, visitors and parents unless permission has been granted.

Toilet and morning tea facilities are available on request.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous parents, grandparents and community members who volunteer their time to help within our school. The assistance that you provide, in a wide range of areas within our school, is invaluable.

P&C NEWS Term 2 Week 6 4/6/18 The P&C has been accepted for the Friday Night Raffles at the Stuarts Point Workers Club for the month of June. We

need two people each week to sell the tickets. Please contact Brenna Rapira if you can lend a hand for an hour or so

on a Friday night. It is a fantastic fundraiser for our school!

School uniforms are available at very reasonable prices through the P&C. With the cooler weather approaching now

is a great time to order for your children. Don’t forget that the new order forms must be used – you can either pay

when you complete your order form at the office, or pay when you collect your items. No items can be collected

without full payment. If you ordered girls check shorts or tunics last term they have arrived so please come to canteen

Friday morning to collect them.

The athletics carnival will be held in Week 8 with the P&C running canteen for students, parents and spectators. If

you can lend a hand on the day please let Nicole Lilly or Robyn know. Orders need to be handed in by 9am on the day

– just like a normal canteen order. The menu will be attached to the Week 8 newsletter.

We still have a vacancy to fill for the position of Treasurer so if you would like to take on the role or would like some

more information about what's involved please see Brenna Rapira.

School Banking in conjunction with the Commonwealth Bank continues in Term 2 each Friday morning. Some great

prizes are on offer for those students signed up and depositing money. Please see Ashlea Donovan or Robyn for more

details.

The next P&C meeting will be held next week, Tuesday 12th June at 9.15am in the Library. We'd love to see you

there.
