STUDY &
TEST TAKING STRATEGIES FOR
SCIENCE
DEVELOP A STUDY ROUTINE
Select a consistent place to study. Some people need total quiet and others can study well with music in the background. The key is to find a comfortable place and study there regularly, such as the kitchen table, a desk, a favorite chair, bed, etc.
DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE
Study a little every night instead of cramming late the night before the test.A good night’s sleep helps. Bleary eyes and a tired body do not.
STAY ORGANIZED
Write down all your assignments in one notebook, agenda, or plannerKeep all classes separate- use different notebooks, folders, or dividersDo not shove papers into your bag or locker
TALK ABOUT ASSIGNMENTS WITH FRIENDS/ FAMILY
The best way to truly understand something is to be able to explain it to someone elseTell your parents/ siblings what you are learning in class.Get a study buddy. Call them on the phone, text, and quiz each other
MAKE YOUR OWN STUDY GUIDE
Look over notes and try to come up with questions you think will be on the testMake flash cards and use vocabulary strategies to help you study
SHOW HOW VOCABULARY WORDS ARE RELATED
READ ALL QUESTIONS AT LEAST 2 TIMES
Make sure your answer uses correct grammarRead each question to determine what it is actually askingTake your time and check over your answers
PACE YOURSELF
